Claims
- 1. Exercise apparatus comprising, an elongated frame including 1) first and second pedals mounted for reciprocating movement along said frame; 2) an idler axle mounted to said frame; 3) first and second drive axles mounted to said frame; 4) first and second pedals coupled to first and second linkages respectively trained between said idler axle and said first drive axle, and said idler axle and said second drive axle; and 5) first and second flywheels mounted to said first and second drive axles to each rotate independent of the other and establish an independent resistance in response to movement of said first and second pedals.
- 2. Exercise apparatus as set forth in claim 1 including means for independently controlling the resistance to motion of each of said first and second flywheels relative to movement of said first and second pedals.
- 3. Exercise apparatus as set forth in claim 1 wherein said frame includes a plurality of wheels mounted to roll during transport of the apparatus.
- 4. Exercise apparatus as set forth in claim 2 wherein each of said first and second flywheels includes means for magnetically controlling the resistance to motion of said first and second flywheels.
- 5. Exercise apparatus as set forth in claim 1 wherein the resistance to motion of each of said first and second flywheels is magnetically varied.
- 6. Exercise apparatus as set forth in claim 1 wherein said flywheel means exhibits said resistance to movement only in response to movement of each of said first and second linkages in a first direction.
- 7. Exercise apparatus as set forth in claim 1 including means for coupling said frame to a chair, whereby a user can exercise the legs while seated.
- 8. Exercise apparatus comprising:a) a base frame; and b) an elongated main frame mounted to pivot from said base frame and including 1) first and second pedals mounted for reciprocating movement along said main frame; 2) an idler axle mounted to said main frame; 3) first and second drive axles respectively mounted to said main frame; 4) first and second pedals coupled to first and second linkages respectively trained between said idler axle and said first drive axle, and said idler axle and said second drive axle; 5) first and second flywheels mounted to said first and second drive axles to each rotate independent of the other and establish an independent resistance in response to movement of said first and second pedals.
- 9. Exercise apparatus as set forth in claim 8 wherein said main frame includes first and second rails and wherein said first and second pedals are mounted to rollers that engage said first and second rails.
- 10. Exercise apparatus as set forth in claim 8 including means for controlling the resistance to motion of each of said first and second flywheels relative to movement of said first and second pedals.
- 11. Exercise apparatus comprising:a) a base frame; and b) an elongated main frame mounted to pivot from said base frame and having first and second rails and including 1) first and second pedals supported for reciprocating movement along said first and second rails; 2) an idler axle mounted between said first and second rails; 3) first and second drive axles mounted between said first and second rails; 4) first and second pedals coupled to first and second linkages respectively trained between said idler axle and said first drive axle, and said idler axle and said second drive axle; 5) first and second flywheels mounted to said first and second drive axles to each rotate independent of the other in response to movement of said first and second pedals.
- 12. Exercise apparatus as set forth in claim 11 including a coupler to secure said main frame to a chair such that a user can exercise while seated.
- 13. Exercise apparatus as set forth in claim 11 wherein said first and second flywheels include means for magnetically controlling the resistance to motion of each of said first and second flywheels.
- 14. Exercise apparatus as set forth in claim 11 including wheels and support pads for supporting said apparatus in a transport position and in a stationary exercise position.
- 15. Exercise apparatus as set forth in claim 11 wherein said first and second flywheels include over-running clutches and magnets to establish a resistance to movement of each of said first and second pedals in a first direction.
- 16. Exercise apparatus comprising, an elongated frame including 1) first and second pedals mounted for reciprocating movement along said frame; 2) an idler axle mounted to said frame; 3) first and second drive axles mounted to said frame; 4) first and second pedals coupled to first and second linkages respectively trained between said idler axle and said first drive axle, and said idler axle and said second drive axle; 5) flywheel means mounted to said first and second drive axles for establishing an independent resistance to movement at each of said first and second pedals; and 6) a plurality of wheels mounted to said frame to roll during transport of the apparatus.
- 17. Exercise apparatus comprising, an elongated frame including 1) first and second pedals mounted for reciprocating movement along said frame; 2) an idler axle mounted to said frame; 3) first and second drive axles mounted to said frame; 4) first and second pedals coupled to first and second linkages respectively trained between said idler axle and said first drive axle, and said idler axle and said second drive axle; and 5) flywheel means mounted to said first and second drive axles for magnetically establishing an independent resistance to movement at each of said first and second pedals.
- 18. Exercise apparatus comprising, an elongated frame including 1) first and second pedals mounted for reciprocating movement along said frame; 2) an idler axle mounted to said frame; 3) first and second drive axles mounted to said frame; 4) first and second pedals coupled to first and second linkages respectively trained between said idler axle and said first drive axle, and said idler axle and said second drive axle; and 5) flywheel means mounted to said first and second drive axles for establishing an independent resistance to movement at each of said first and second pedals only in response to movement of each of said first and second linkages in a first direction.
- 19. Exercise apparatus comprising, an elongated frame including 1) first and second pedals mounted for reciprocating movement along said frame; 2) an idler axle mounted to said frame; 3) first and second drive axles mounted to said frame; 4) first and second pedals coupled to first and second linkages respectively trained between said idler axle and said first drive axle, and said idler axle and said second drive axle; 5) flywheel means mounted to said first and second drive axles for establishing an independent resistance to movement at each of said first and second pedals; and 6) a coupler to secure said frame to a chair such that a user can exercise while seated.
