Claims
- 1. A quick disconnect fluid coupling assembly comprising:
- a quick disconnect connection having a first fluid bore extending therethrough, said quick disconnect connection including a first closure member movably positioned between a first position and a second position in said first fluid bore for preventing and permitting fluid to pass through said first fluid bore; and
- a quick disconnect stem having a second fluid bore extending therethrough, said quick disconnect stem including a second closure member movably positioned between a third position and a fourth position in said second fluid bore for preventing and permitting fluid to pass through said second fluid bore, wherein upon connecting said quick disconnect connection with said quick disconnect stem, said first closure member is moved to said second position and said second closure member is moved to said fourth position without engagement of said first closure member against said second closure member to permit fluid to pass through said first and second fluid bores.
- 2. A quick disconnect fluid coupling assembly comprising:
- a quick disconnect connection having a first fluid bore extending therethrough, said quick disconnect connection including a first closure member movably positioned between a first position and a second position in said first fluid bore for preventing and permitting fluid to pass through said first fluid bore; and
- a quick disconnect stem having a second fluid bore extending therethrough, said quick disconnect stem including a second closure member movably positioned between a third position and a fourth position in said second fluid bore for preventing and permitting fluid to pass through said second fluid bore and a cylindrical stem having a first end and a second end with said second fluid bore passing therethrough, said first end including a plurality of apertures for permitting fluid to flow into said second fluid bore, wherein upon connecting said quick disconnect connection with said quick disconnect stem, said first closure member is moved to said second position and said second closure member is moved to said fourth position to permit fluid to pass through said first and second fluid bores.
- 3. The quick disconnect fluid coupling assembly as defined in claim 2 wherein said second end of said stem includes a spherical ledge adjacent to said second fluid bore for engaging said second closure member.
- 4. The quick disconnect fluid coupling assembly as defined in claim 3 wherein said second closure member is a spherical ball, said spherical ball engages said spherical ledge at said second end of said stem for preventing fluid to pass through said second fluid bore.
- 5. A quick disconnect fluid coupling assembly comprising:
- a quick disconnect connection having a first fluid bore extending therethrough, said quick disconnect connection including a first closure member movably positioned between a first position and a second position in said first fluid bore for preventing and permitting fluid to pass through said first fluid bore; and
- a quick disconnect stem having a second fluid bore extending therethrough, said quick disconnect stem including a spherical ball movably positioned between a third position and a fourth position in said second fluid bore for preventing and permitting fluid to pass through said second fluid bore, whereby upon connecting said quick disconnect connection with said quick disconnect stem, said first closure member is moved to said second position and said spherical ball is moved to said fourth position to permit fluid to pass through said first and second fluid bores, wherein said spherical ball inhibits flashback of fluid from said quick disconnect stem upon disconnection of said quick disconnect stem from said quick disconnect connection.
- 6. A paint supply system comprising:
- a pressurized conduit having a first end and a second end, said first end receives a liquid coating composition and said second end supplies the liquid coating composition to a spray nozzle;
- a quick disconnect connection in fluid communication with said second end of said pressurized conduit, said quick disconnect connection having a first fluid bore extending therethrough and including a first closure member movably positioned between a first position and a second position in said first fluid bore for preventing and permitting the liquid coating composition to pass through said first fluid bore; and
- a quick disconnect stem extending from said spray nozzle, said quick disconnect stem having a second fluid bore extending therethrough and including a second closure member movably positioned between a third position and a fourth position in said second fluid bore for preventing and permitting the liquid coating composition to pass through said second fluid bore, wherein upon connecting said quick disconnect connection with said quick disconnect stem, said first closure member is moved to said second position with an end of said quick disconnect stem and said second closure member is freely moved to said fourth position with the liquid coating composition to permit the liquid coating composition to pass through said first and second fluid bores from said supply tank to said spray nozzle, wherein upon disconnecting said quick disconnect connection from said quick disconnect stem, said first closure member is moved to said first position and said second closure member is moved to said third position to inhibit flashback and flow of the liquid coating composition from said quick disconnect connection and said quick disconnect stem.
- 7. The paint supply system as defined in claim 6 wherein said quick disconnect stem includes a cylindrical stem having a first end and a second end with said second fluid bore passing therethrough, said first end including a plurality of apertures for permitting the liquid coating composition coating to flow into said second fluid bore.
- 8. The paint supply system as defined in claim 7 wherein said second end of said stem includes a spherical ledge adjacent to said second fluid bore for engaging said second closure member.
- 9. The paint supply system as defined in claim 8 wherein said second closure member is a spherical ball, said spherical ball engages said spherical ledge at said second end of said stem for preventing the liquid coating composition to pass through said second fluid bore.
- 10. The paint supply system as defined in claim 6 wherein said pressurized conduit is a coaxially arranged recirculating conduit having a first hose for supplying the liquid coating composition to said spray nozzle and a second hose for returning excess liquid coating composition to a supply tank, said first and second hoses being concentric with one another.
- 11. The paint supply system as defined in claim 10 further comprising a helical coil sheath operable to encircle a portion of said recirculating conduit.
- 12. The paint supply system as defined in claim 10 further comprising a Y-shaped fluid connector in fluid communication with said quick disconnect connection, said recirculating conduit and a second recirculating conduit for mixing said liquid coating composition from said recirculating conduit with a second liquid coating composition from said second recirculating conduit.
- 13. The paint supply system as defined in claim 6 further comprising a swivel fluid connector in fluid communication with said pressurized conduit.
- 14. The paint supply system as defined in claim 6 further comprising a filter fluid connector in fluid communication with said pressurized conduit.
- 15. The paint supply system as defined in claim 1 further comprising a restrictor fluid connector in fluid communication with said pressurized conduit.
- 16. The paint supply system as defined in claim 6 further comprising a supply line in fluid communication with said pressurized conduit for supplying said liquid coating composition to said pressurized conduit, said supply line including a ball valve for inhibiting the flow of said liquid coating composition to said pressurized conduit.
- 17. The paint supply system as defined in claim 16 further comprising a Y-shaped fluid fitting coupled to said supply line.
- 18. The paint supply system as defined in claim 6 further comprising an encapsulated ball valve having a closure member which is substantially encapsulated.
- 19. The paint supply system as defined in claim 6 further comprising a spray gun having a polymeric body.
- 20. A recirculating paint supply system comprising:
- a supply line for supplying a liquid coating composition from a supply tank to a spray nozzle;
- a return line for returning excess liquid coating composition supplied to said spray nozzle to said supply tank;
- a supply valve member in fluid communication with said supply line, said supply valve member having a first closure member moveable between a first position and a second position;
- a return valve member in fluid communication with said return line, said return valve member having a second closure member moveable between a third position and a fourth position;
- a bypass valve member in fluid communication with said supply and return lines, said bypass valve member having a third closure member moveable between a fifth position and a sixth position; and
- a connecting member mechanically communicating with said supply valve member, said return valve member and said bypass valve member, wherein upon moving said connecting member said first, second and third closure members are simultaneously moved.
- 21. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 20 wherein moving said connecting member in a first direction simultaneously enables said liquid coating composition to be supplied from said supply tank to said spray nozzle through said supply line and enables said excess liquid coating composition supplied to said spray nozzle to be returned to said supply tank through said return line.
- 22. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 21 wherein moving said connecting member in said first direction simultaneously moves said first closure member to said first position, moves said second closure member to said third position and moves said third closure to said fifth position to simultaneously open said supply valve member and said return valve member and close said bypass valve member.
- 23. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 20 wherein moving said connecting member in a second direction simultaneously inhibits said liquid coating composition to be supplied to and returned from said spray nozzle and enables said liquid coating composition to be supplied through said supply line and returned through said return line.
- 24. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 23 wherein moving said connecting member to said second direction simultaneously moves said first closure member to said second position, moves said second closure member to said fourth position and moves said third closure member to said sixth position to simultaneously close said supply valve member and said return valve member and open said bypass valve member.
- 25. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 20 wherein said connecting member includes an annular member pivotably connected to said first, second and third closure members.
- 26. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 25 wherein said connecting member further includes a handle rotatably mounted to said annular member.
- 27. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 25 wherein said annular member is constructed of a polymeric material.
- 28. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 20 wherein said supply valve member includes a supply valve handle, said return valve member includes a return valve handle and said bypass valve member includes a bypass valve handle, said supply valve handle, said return valve handle and said bypass valve handle each pivotably connected to said connection member to move said first, second and third closure members simultaneously.
- 29. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 28 wherein at least one of said handles includes an elongated portion, wherein upon moving said elongated portion, said first, second and third closure members are simultaneously moved.
- 30. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 28 wherein at least one of said handles includes a tang positioned on said handle to inhibit excess rotation of said handle.
- 31. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 20 further comprising a supply conduit coupled to said supply valve member to supply said liquid coating composition from said supply line to said spray nozzle and a return conduit coupled to said return valve member to return excess liquid coating composition supplied to said spray nozzle to said return line, said supply conduit and said return conduit form a co-axially arranged recirculating conduit.
- 32. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 31 further comprising a quick-disconnect connector, a swivel fluid connector, a filter fluid connector, and a restrictor fluid connector, each in fluid communication with said recirculating conduit.
- 33. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 20 further comprising a Y-shape fluid fitting coupled to said supply line.
- 34. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 20 further comprising an encapsulated ball valve having a closure member which is substantially encapsulated.
- 35. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 20 further comprising a spray gun having a polymeric body.
- 36. A recirculating paint supply system comprising:
- a supply line for supplying a liquid coating composition from a supply tank to a spray nozzle;
- a return line for returning excess liquid coating composition supplied to said spray nozzle to said supply tank;
- a pressurized conduit having a first end and a second end, said first end receives said liquid coating composition from said supply tank and said second end supplies said liquid coating composition to said spray nozzle;
- a quick disconnect fluid coupling assembly having a quick disconnect connection in fluid communication with said second end of said pressurized conduit and a quick disconnect stem extending from said spray nozzle, said quick disconnect connection having a first closure member and said quick disconnect stem having a second closure member, wherein upon disconnecting said quick disconnect connection from said quick disconnect stem, said first and second closure members move to inhibit flashback and flow of the liquid coating composition from said quick disconnect connection and said quick disconnect stem; and
- a connecting mechanism connected to a fluid connector assembly having a supply valve member in fluid communication with said supply line, a return valve member in fluid communication with said return line and a bypass valve member in fluid communication with said supply and return lines, wherein upon moving said connecting mechanism in a first direction simultaneously closes said supply and return valve members and opens said bypass valve member to remove said spray nozzle from said recirculating paint supply system.
- 37. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 36 wherein said quick disconnect stem includes a cylindrical stem having a first end and a second end with a fluid bore passing therethrough, said first end including at least one aperture for permitting the liquid coating composition to flow into said fluid bore and said second end including a ledge adjacent to said fluid bore for engaging said second closure member.
- 38. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 37 wherein said second closure member is a spherical ball and said ledge is a spherical ledge, said spherical ball engaging said spherical ledge at said second end of said stem for preventing the liquid coating composition to pass through said fluid bore.
- 39. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 36 wherein said connecting mechanism includes an annular member pivotably mounted to said supply valve member, said return valve member and said bypass valve member for simultaneously opening said supply and return valve members and closing said bypass valve member.
- 40. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 39 wherein said connecting mechanism further includes a handle rotatably mounted to said annular member.
- 41. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 39 wherein said annular member is constructed of a polymeric material.
- 42. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 36 further comprising a swivel fluid connector in fluid communication with said pressurized conduit.
- 43. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 36 further comprising a fluid filter connector in fluid communication with said pressurized conduit.
- 44. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 36 further comprising a restrictor fluid connector in fluid communication with said pressurized conduit.
- 45. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 36 further comprising a Y-shaped fluid fitting in fluid communication with said supply line.
- 46. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 36 wherein said supply valve member includes a supply ball valve, said return valve member includes a return ball valve and said bypass valve member includes a bypass ball valve.
- 47. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 36 further comprising an encapsulated ball valve having a closure member which is substantially encapsulated.
- 48. The recirculating paint supply system as defined in claim 36 further comprising a spray gun having a polymeric body.
