Claims
- 1. A substrate, comprising:a plurality of linearly arranged recording elements in the form of liquid ejection energy generating means which are integrally built into said substrate; a plurality of electrical leads, electrically connected to said recording elements and connected in a circuit for supplying electric driving current to said recording elements; said circuit including a first common lead electrically connected to each of said plurality of electrical leads to supply a driving voltage to said recording elements; an electrical contact for external electrical connection for reception of image signals used for driving said recording elements; a plurality of selector elements integrally built into said substrate and electrically connected to said recording elements for selectively controlling the application of driving current to said recording elements; a second common lead electrically connected to each of said plurality of selector elements in said circuit to electrically ground them; a logic circuit, integrally built into said substrate, and having a circuit connected to said contact for receiving said image signals and for converting said image signals which are serially supplied to said electrical contact into parallel signals and having a circuit for holding the parallel signals and connected to supply them to the selector elements; wherein said recording elements, said selector elements, and said logic circuit are disposed in the order stated from an end of said substrate, said recording elements being disposed at positions beyond said first and second common leads toward said end of said substrate, and said liquid ejection energy generating means and said selector elements being disposed in one-to-one correspondence.
- 2. A substrate, comprising:a plurality of recording elements in the form of liquid ejection energy generating means which are integrally built into said substrate; a plurality of electrical leads, electrically connected to said recording elements, and connected in a circuit for supplying electric signals to said recording elements; an electrical contact for external electrical connection for reception of image signals which are supplied serially and which are supplied serially and which are used for driving said recording elements; a plurality of selector elements integrally built into said substrate and electrically connected to said recording elements for selectively controlling the application of driving current to said recording elements; a logic circuit, integrally built into said substrate, and having a circuit connected to said electrical contact for receiving said image signals and for converting said image signals which are serially supplied to said electrical contact into parallel signals and having a circuit electrically connected to said selector elements, for holding the parallel signals and connected to supply them to the selector elements; a first common lead electrically connected to said liquid ejection energy generating means to supply a driving voltage to said recording elements; a second common lead electrically connected to said selector elements to electrically ground them; said liquid ejection energy generating means being disposed at a position closer to one end portion of said substrate than said first common lead; said logic circuit being disposed at an end of said substrate which is opposite from said one end; and said second common lead being disposed between said liquid ejection energy generating means and said selector elements or between said selector elements and said logic circuit.
- 3. A substrate according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said energy generating means are juxtaposed adjacent to a first end of said substrate, and said electrical contacts are arranged adjacent to a second end of said substrate which is itself adjacent to said first end.
- 4. A substrate according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said logic circuit comprises:a shift register circuit; and a latching circuit.
- 5. A substrate according to claim 1 or 2, further comprising a plurality of selector elements which are disposed between said logic circuit and said energy generating means.
- 6. A substrate according to claim 5, wherein said switching elements are transistors.
- 7. A substrate according to claim 9, wherein said transistors are arranged in a plurality of arrays.
- 8. A substrate according to claim 1 or 2, further comprising a plurality of selector elements operable in response to a signal produced by said processing circuit, wherein said energy generating means are driven by said selector elements.
- 9. A substrate according to claim 8, wherein electrical connection between said logic circuit and said selector elements is effected through a semiconductor layer.
- 10. A substrate according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said energy generating means are electrothermal transducers.
- 11. A substrate according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said substrate is a semiconductor substrate.
- 12. A substrate according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said substrate further comprises a plurality of selector elements electrically connected with said energy generating means, respectively, and wherein a plurality of electrical leads are disposed between said energy generating means and said selector elements to drive said energy generating means.
- 13. A substrate according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said liquid ejection energy generating means is covered with an anti-cavitation layer having a size sufficient to cover said logic circuit.
- 14. A substrate according to claim 13, wherein said anti-cavitation layer comprises tantalum.
- 15. A substrate according to claim 14, wherein at least a part of said selector elements and said logic circuit is covered with the anti-cavitation layer.
- 16. A substrate according to claim 1 or 2, further comprising a divided driving circuit for effecting the driving of said liquid ejection energy generating means in groups of blocks.
- 17. A substrate according to claim 16, wherein said substrate further comprises a delaying circuit for delaying driving of said liquid ejection energy generating means.
- 18. A substrate according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said selector elements are disposed in a staggered manner.
- 19. A substrate according to claim 1, further comprising a first common lead electrically connected to said liquid ejection energy generating means, said first common lead being disposed along an arrangement direction of said liquid ejection energy generating means; anda second common lead electrically connected to said selector elements.
- 20. A substrate as in claim 1, wherein said recording elements are arranged with a small pitch, and said selector elements are in a staggered arrangement to an improved area factor.
- 21. A substrate according to claim 2, wherein said first common lead applies a voltage to said liquid ejection energy generating means, and said second common lead is a grounding lead.
- 22. A substrate according to claim 2, wherein said selector elements are disposed in lines having different distances from the logic circuit along the logic circuit between a region in which said liquid ejection energy generating means are disposed and a region in which the logic circuit is disposed.
- 23. A liquid jet head comprising:a plurality of liquid passages communicating to liquid ejecting portion for ejecting liquid; a common liquid chamber for supplying liquid to said liquid passage; a substrate, said substrate comprising: a plurality of linearly arranged recording elements in the form of liquid ejection energy generating means for applying liquid ejection energy to the liquid in said liquid passages, said recording elements being integrally built into said substrate; a plurality of electrical leads, electrically connected to said recording elements and connected in a circuit for supplying electric driving current to said recording elements; said circuit including a first common lead electrically connected to each of said plurality of electrical leads to supply a driving voltage to said recording elements; an electrical contact for external electrical connection for reception of image signals used for driving said recording elements; a plurality of selector elements integrally built into said substrate and electrically connected to said recording elements for selectively controlling the application of driving current to said recording elements; a second common lead electrically connected to each of said plurality of selector elements in said circuit to electrically ground them; a logic circuit, integrally built into said substrate, and having a circuit connected to said electrical contact for receiving said image signals and for converting said image signals which are serially supplied to said electrical contact into parallel signals and having a circuit for holding the parallel signals and connected to supply them to the selector elements; wherein said recording elements, said selector elements, and said logic circuit are disposed in the order stated from an end of said substrate, said recording elements being disposed at positions beyond said first and second common leads toward said end of said substrate, and said liquid ejection energy generating means and said elector elements being disposed in one-to-one correspondence.
- 24. A liquid jet head, comprising:a plurality of liquid passages communicating with a liquid ejecting portion for ejecting a liquid; and a substrate, said substrate comprising: a plurality of recording elements in the form of ejection energy generating means for applying liquid ejection energy to the liquid in said liquid passages, said recording elements being integrally built into said substrate; a plurality of electrical leads, electrically connected to said recording elements and connected in a circuit for supplying electric signals to said recording elements; an electrical contact for external electrical connection for reception of image signals which are supplied serially and which are used for driving said recording elements; a plurality of selector elements integrally built into said substrate and electrically connected to said recording elements for selectively controlling the application of driving current to said recording elements; a logic circuit, integrally built into said substrate, and having a circuit connected to said electrical contact for receiving said image signals and for converting said image signals which are serially supplied to said electrical contact into parallel signals and having a circuit electrically connected to said selector elements, for holding the parallel signals and connected to supply them to the selector elements; a first common lead electrically connected to said recording elements to supply a driving voltage to said recording elements, said first common lead being disposed along a direction of arrangement of said recording elements; a second common lead electrically connected to said selector elements to electrically ground them; said first common lead and said liquid ejection energy generating means being disposed at one end portion of said substrate; said logic circuit being disposed at an end of said substrate which is opposite from said one end; and said second common lead being disposed between said liquid ejection energy generating means and said selector elements or between said selector elements and said logic circuit said liquid ejection energy generating means being disposed at a position closer to one end portion of said substrate than said first common lead; said logic circuit being disposed at an end of said substrate which is opposite from said one end; and said second common lead being disposed between said liquid ejection energy generating means and said selector elements or between said selector elements and said logic circuit.
- 25. A liquid jet head according to claim 23 or 24, wherein said energy generating means are juxtaposed adjacent to a first end of said substrate, and said electrical contacts are arranged adjacent to a second end of said substrate which is opposite to said first end.
- 26. A liquid jet head according to claim 23 or 24, wherein said logic circuit comprises:a shift register circuit; and a latching circuit.
- 27. A liquid jet head according to claim 23 or 24, further comprising a plurality of selector elements which are disposed between said logic circuit and said energy generating means.
- 28. A liquid jet head according to claim 23 or 24, further comprising a plurality of selector elements operable in response to a signal produced by said logic circuit, wherein said energy generating means are driven by said selector elements.
- 29. A liquid jet head according to claim 23 or 24, wherein said selector elements are transistors.
- 30. A liquid jet head according to claim 3 or 4, wherein said transistors are arranged in a plurality of arrays.
- 31. A liquid jet head according to claim 23 or 24, wherein said energy generating means are electrothermal transducers.
- 32. A liquid jet head according to claim 23 or 24, wherein said substrate is a semiconductor substrate.
- 33. A liquid jet head according to claim 23 or 24, wherein electrical connection between said logic circuit and said selector elements is effected through a semiconductor layer.
- 34. A liquid jet head according to claim 23 or 24, wherein said substrate further comprises a plurality of selector elements electrically connected with said energy generating means, respectively, and wherein a plurality of electrical leads are disposed between said energy generating means and said selector elements to drive said energy generating means.
- 35. A liquid jet head according to claim 23 or 24, wherein said liquid comprises an ink for effecting recording.
- 36. A liquid jet head according to claim 35, wherein said passages are provided independently for respective different colors of said ink so as to be capable of ejecting different color inks.
- 37. A liquid jet head as in claim 23, wherein said recording elements are arranged with a small pitch, and said selector elements are in a staggered arrangement to an improved area factor.
- 38. A substrate according to claim 24, wherein said first common lead applies a voltage to said liquid ejection energy generating means, and said second common lead is a grounding lead.
- 39. A substrate according to claim 38, wherein said head further comprises a common liquid chamber for supplying the liquid to said liquid passages, and at least a part of said common leads are disposed under the common chamber.
- 40. A substrate according to claim 21 or 38, wherein said liquid ejection energy generating means, said first common lead; said selector elements, and said second common lead are disposed in that order in a direction extending from a first end to another end of said substrate.
- 41. A substrate according to claim 21 or 38, wherein said liquid ejection energy generating means, said first common lead, said second common leads, and said selector elements are disposed in that order in a direction extending from a first end to another other end of said substrate.
- 42. A substrate according to claim 21 or 38, wherein said liquid ejection energy generating means, said selector elements, said first common lead, and said second common leads are disposed in that order in a direction extending from a first end to another end of said substrate.
- 43. A substrate according to claim 21 or 38, wherein said first common lead, said liquid ejection energy generating means, said selector elements, and said second common leads are disposed in that order in a direction extending from a first end to another end of said substrate.
- 44. A substrate according to claim 21 or 38, wherein said first common lead, said liquid ejection energy generating means, said second common lead, and said selector elements are disposed in that order in a direction extending from a first end to another end of said substrate.
- 45. A liquid jet head apparatus for effecting liquid jet operation with liquid droplets ejected, comprising:a liquid jet head comprising: a plurality of liquid passages communicating to liquid ejecting portion for ejecting liquid; a common liquid chamber for supplying liquid to said liquid passages; a substrate, said substrate comprising: a plurality of linearly arranged recording elements in the form of liquid ejection energy generating means for applying liquid ejection energy to the liquid in said liquid passages, said recording elements being integrally built into said substrate; a plurality of electrical leads, electrically connected to said recording elements; said circuit including a first common lead electrically connected to each of said plurality of electrical leads to supply a driving voltage to said recording elements; an electrical contact for external electrical connection for reception of image signals used for driving said recording elements; a plurality of selector elements integrally built into said substrate and electrically connected to said recording elements for selectively controlling the application of driving current to said recording elements; a second common lead electrically connected to each of said plurality of selector elements in said circuit to electrically ground them; a logic circuit, integrally built into said substrate, and having a circuit connected to said electrical contact for receiving said image signals and for converting said image signals which are serially supplied to said electrical contact into parallel signals and having a circuit electrically connected to said selector elements, for holding the parallel signals and connected to supply them to the selector elements; wherein said recording elements, said selector elements, and said logic circuit are disposed in the order stated from an end of said substrate, said recording elements being disposed at positions beyond said first and second common leads toward said end of said substrate, and said liquid ejection energy generating means and said elector elements being disposed in one-to-one correspondence.
- 46. A liquid jet apparatus for effecting liquid jet operation with liquid droplets ejected, comprising:a liquid jet head comprising: a plurality of liquid passages communicating with a liquid ejecting portion for ejecting a liquid; and a substrate, said substrate comprising: a plurality of recording elements in the form of liquid ejection energy generating means for applying liquid ejection energy to the liquid in said liquid passages, said recording elements being integrally built into said substrate; a plurality of electrical leads, electrically connected to said recording elements, and connected in a circuit for supplying electric signals to said recording elements; an electrical contact for external electrical connection for reception of image signals which are supplied serially and which are used for driving said recording elements; a plurality of selector elements integrally built into said substrate and electrically connected to said recording elements for selectively controlling the application of driving current to said recording elements; a logic circuit, integrally built into said substrate, and having a circuit connected to said contact for receiving said image signals and for converting said image signals which are serially supplied to said electrical contact into parallel signals which are applied to said recording elements and having a circuit electrically connected to said selector elements, for holding the parallel signals and connected to supply them to the selector elements; a first common lead electrically connected to said recording elements to supply a driving voltage to said recording elements, said first common lead extending in a direction along which said recording elements are arranged; and a second common lead electrically connected to said selector elements to electrically ground them; said liquid ejection energy generating means being disposed at a position closer to one end portion of said substrate than said first common lead; said logic circuit being disposed at an end of said substrate which is opposite from said one end; and said second common lead being disposed between said liquid ejection energy generating means and said selector elements or between said selector elements and said logic circuit.
- 47. A liquid jet apparatus according to claim 45 or 46, wherein said processing circuit comprises:a shift register circuit; and a latching circuit.
- 48. A liquid jet apparatus according to claim 45 or 46, wherein said energy generating means are electrothermal transducers.
- 49. A liquid jet apparatus according to claim 45 or 46, wherein said liquid jet apparatus ejects inks and said apparatus comprises mounting means for detachably mounting different liquid jet heads for different inks.
- 50. A liquid jet apparatus according to claim 45 or 46, wherein said liquid jet apparatus ejects inks, and said apparatus further comprises mounting means for detachably mounting different liquid jet heads for different inks.
- 51. A liquid jet apparatus as in claim 45, wherein said recording elements are arranged with a small pitch, and said selector elements are in a staggered arrangement to an improved area factor.
- 52. A substrate according to claim 46, wherein said first common lead applies a voltage to said liquid ejection energy generating means, and said second common lead is a grounding lead.
- 53. A liquid jet head cartridge, comprising:a liquid jet head comprising: a plurality of liquid passages communicating to liquid ejecting portion for ejecting liquid; a common liquid chamber for supplying liquid to said liquid passage; a substrate, said substrate comprising: a plurality of linearly arranged recording elements in the form of liquid ejection energy generating means for applying liquid ejection energy to the liquid in said liquid passages, said recording elements being integrally built into said substrate; a plurality of electrical leads, electrically connected to said recording elements and connected in a circuit for supplying electric signals to said recording elements; said circuit including a first common lead electrically connected to each of said plurality of electrical leads to supply a driving voltage to said recording elements; an electrical contact for external electrical connection for reception of image signals which are supplied serially and which are used for driving said recording elements; a plurality of selector elements integrally built into said substrate and electrically connected to said recording elements for selectively controlling the application of driving current to said recording elements; a second common lead electrically connected to each of said plurality of selector elements in said circuit to electrically ground them; a logic circuit, integrally built into said substrate, and having a circuit connected to said contact for receiving said image signals and for converting said image signals which are serially supplied to said electrical contact and for converting said signals into parallel signals and having a circuit for holding the parallel signals and connected to supply them to the selector elements; wherein said recording elements, said selector elements, and said logic circuit are disposed in the order stated from an end of said substrate, said recording elements being disposed at positions beyond said first and second common leads toward said end of said substrate, and said liquid ejection energy generating means and said elector elements being disposed in one-to-one correspondence and an ink container for containing an ink to be supplied to said liquid jet head.
- 54. A liquid jet head cartridge, comprising:a liquid jet head comprising: a plurality of liquid passages communicating with a liquid ejecting portion for ejecting a liquid; and a substrate, said substrate comprising: a plurality of recording elements in the form of liquid ejection energy generating means for applying liquid ejection energy to the liquid in said liquid passages, said recording elements being integrally built into said substrate; a plurality of electrical leads, electrically connected to said recording elements, and connected in a circuit for supplying electric signals to said recording elements; an electrical contact for external electrical connection for reception of image signals which are supplied serially and which are used for driving said recording elements; a plurality of selector elements integrally built into said substrate and electrically connected to said recording elements for selectively controlling the application of driving current to said recording elements; a logic circuit, integrally built into said substrate, and having a circuit connected to said electrical contact for receiving said image signals and for converting said image signals which are serially supplied to said electrical contact into parallel signals and having a circuit electrically connected to said selector elements, for holding the parallel signals and connected to supply them to the selector elements; a first common lead electrically connected to said recording elements to supply a driving voltage to said recording elements, said first common lead extending in a direction along which said recording element are arranged; a second common lead electrically connected to said selector elements to electrically ground them; an ink container for containing an ink to be supplied to said liquid jet head, said liquid ejection energy generating means being disposed at a position closer to one end portion of said substrate than said first common lead; said logic circuit being disposed at an end of said substrate which is opposite from said one end; and said second common lead being disposed between said liquid ejection energy generating means and said selector elements or between said selector elements and said logic circuit.
- 55. A liquid jet head, according to claim 53 or 54, further comprising the ink.
- 56. A liquid jet apparatus as in claim 53, wherein said recording elements are arranged with a small pitch, and said selector elements are in a staggered arrangement to an improved area factor.
- 57. A recording element substrate having formed thereon:a plurality of closely spaced recording elements arranged in a line, said recording elements being operable to generate liquid droplet ejection energy in response to electrical current pulses applied thereto; a plurality of selector elements connected to supply electrical current pulses to corresponding ones of said recording elements; and a signal processing circuit connected to receive input image signals and to supply corresponding control signals to said selector elements; said selector elements being positioned between said line of recording elements and said processing circuit, said selector elements further being arranged in at least two lines and in staggered arrangement to provide an improved area factor.
