Claims
- 1. A method for cataloguing information representative of signals recorded on a recording medium, said recording medium being accommodated within a recording medium cartridge, comprising the steps of:
- providing a memory device as part of said recording medium cartridge and separate from said recording medium; and
- storing said information in said memory device in the form of a plurality of data packets, the size and format of said data packets having been determined prior to the storing of said information;
- wherein said information is organized according to a hierarchical structure, said hierarchical structure including at least two levels and being capable of accommodating more than two levels; and
- wherein said information includes at least one image data that is derived from a moving image signal.
- 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein said recording medium is a magnetic tape.
- 3. The method according to claim 1, wherein said signals recorded on said recording medium includes at least one video signal.
- 4. The method according to claim 1, wherein said information includes text data.
- 5. The method according to claim 4, wherein said text data is supplied from a remote control device that controls the storing of said information in said memory device.
- 6. The method according to claim 1, wherein each of said data packets includes a level code indicative of the level within said hierarchical structure to which the data packet corresponds.
- 7. The method according to claim 1, wherein each of said data packets comprises a fixed number of bytes.
- 8. The method according to claim 7, wherein each of said data packets comprises five data bytes.
- 9. The method according to claim 1, wherein said memory device comprises an integrated circuit.
- 10. The method according to claim 1, wherein said information includes a custom file, said custom file identifying at least two of said signals recorded on said recording medium and specifying a predetermined order for said identified signals, said predetermined order being different from the order in which said signals are recorded on said recording medium; wherein said custom file may be used to reproduce said identified signals according to said predetermined order.
- 11. A recording medium cartridge, comprising:
- a recording medium for recording one or more signals; and
- a memory device, separate from said recording medium, for storing information representative of said signals recorded on said recording medium;
- said information being stored in said memory device in the form of a plurality of data packets, the size and format of said data packets having been determined prior to the storing of said information in said memory device; said information being organized according to a hierarchical structure, said hierarchical structure including at least two levels and being capable of accommodating more than two levels; and said information including at least one image data that is derived from a moving image signal.
- 12. The cartridge according to claim 11, wherein said recording medium is a magnetic tape.
- 13. The cartridge according to claim 11, wherein said signals recorded on said recording medium include at least one video signal.
- 14. The cartridge according to claim 11, wherein said information stored in said memory device includes text data.
- 15. The cartridge according to claim 14, wherein said text data is supplied from a remote control device that controls the storing of said information in said memory device.
- 16. The cartridge according to claim 11, wherein each of said data packets includes a level code indicative of the level within said hierarchical structure to which the data packet corresponds.
- 17. The cartridge according to claim 11, wherein each of said data packets comprises a fixed number of bytes.
- 18. The cartridge according to claim 17, wherein each of said data packets comprises five data bytes.
- 19. The cartridge according to claim 11, wherein said memory device comprises an integrated circuit.
- 20. The cartridge according to claim 11, wherein said information includes a custom file, said custom file identifying at least two of said signals recorded on said recording medium and specifying a predetermined order for said identified signals, said predetermined order being different from the order in which said signals are recorded on said recording medium; wherein said custom file is used to reproduce said identified signals according to said predetermined order.
