Claims
- 1. An apparatus for recording a frequency separated video signal as slanting tracks on magnetic recording tape, said apparatus comprising
- formatting means for arranging said frequency separated video signal into portions corresponding to different frequency components including a substantially dc luminance component which contains the majority of the dc luminance information in said video signal; and
- recording means for recording only said substantially dc luminance component at predetermined central locations of said slanting tracks.
- 2. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said frequency components are recorded along said tracks in order of increasing frequency moving away from said predetermined central locations of said tracks.
- 3. A recording medium comprising a magnetic recording tape having slanting tracks storing a video signal which is frequency separated into different frequency components including a substantially dc luminance component which contains the majority of the dc luminance information in said video signal, and wherein only said substantially dc luminance component is stored at predetermined central locations of said tracks.
- 4. A recording medium as claim in claim 3, wherein said frequency components of the frequency separated video signal are disposed along said tracks in order of increasing frequency moving away from said predetermined central locations of said tracks.
- 5. A method of recording frequency components of a frequency separated video signal as slanting tracks on magnetic recording tape, said method comprising the steps of:
- arranging said frequency separated video signal into portions corresponding to different frequency components, including a substantially dc luminance component which contains the majority of the dc luminance information in said video signal;
- storing only said substantially dc luminance component of said signal at a predetermined central location of respective ones of said tracks;
- and storing the frequency components of said signal along said respective tracks in order of increasing frequency moving away from said predetermined central locations of said respective tracks.
