Claims
- 1. A reel seat for a fishing rod, comprising:
- a frangible outer longitudinal member having an outer surface adapted to receive the foot of a reel thereon, said frangible outer longitudinal member having a machinability and a bore extending axially therethrough from one end thereof; and
- an inner longitudinal member adapted to receive a portion of a rod body, said inner longitudinal member being disposed within the bore of said frangible outer longitudinal member and having an inner bore, substantially coaxial with the bore of said frangible outer longitudinal member, extending from one axial end thereof, wherein said inner longitudinal member has a machinability that is greater than the machinability of said frangible outer longitudinal member to allow easy diametrical enlargement of the inner bore formed through said inner longitudinal member, and wherein said inner longitudinal member is exposed outside said frangible outer longitudinal member only through an open end of the bore of said frangible outer longitudinal member.
- 2. The reel seat of claim 1, wherein said inner longitudinal member is fixed within the bore of said frangible outer longitudinal member through an interposed adhesive.
- 3. The reel seat of claim 1, wherein the bore formed in said frangible outer longitudinal member extends through the entire axial length thereof.
- 4. The reel seat of claim 3, wherein the bore formed in said inner longitudinal member extends through the entire axial length thereof.
- 5. In a reel seat for a fishing rod of the type including a frangible outer member having a central bore adapted to receive a portion of a rod body, wherein the improvement comprises:
- an inner member disposed within the central bore of said frangible outer member, said inner member having a bore substantially coextensive with the bore of said frangible outer member and being made of a material that is more highly machinable than the material of said frangible outer member, such that the diameter of the bore formed in said inner member can be enlarged easily; and
- wherein said inner member is exposed outside said frangible outer member only through an open end of the central bore of said frangible outer member.
- 6. The reel seat of claim 5, wherein said inner member is fixed within the bore of said frangible outer member through an interposed adhesive.
- 7. The reel seat of claim 5, wherein the bore formed in said frangible outer member extends through the entire axial length thereof.
- 8. The reel seat of claim 7, wherein the bore formed in said inner member extends through the entire axial length thereof.
- 9. A reel seat for a fishing rod that can be used on fishing rods having diameters ranging from X up to Y, comprising:
- a frangible outer member having an outer surface adapted to receive the foot of a reel thereon, said frangible outer member having a machinability and a bore extending axially therethrough from one end thereof, the bore of said frangible outer member having a diameter substantially equal to Y; and
- an inner member adapted to receive a portion of a rod body, said inner member being disposed within the bore of said frangible outer member and having an inner bore, substantially coaxial with the bore of said frangible outer member, extending from one axial end thereof, the inner bore of said inner member having a diameter substantially equal to X, wherein said inner member has a machinability that is greater than the machinability of said frangible outer member to allow easy diametrical enlargement of the inner bore of said inner member from X up to Y;
- wherein said inner member is exposed outside said frangible outer member only through an open end of the bore of said frangible outer member.
- 10. The reel seat of claim 9, wherein said inner member is fixed within the bore of said frangible outer member through an interposed adhesive.
- 11. The reel seat of claim 9, wherein said first bore extends through the entire axial length of said frangible outer member.
- 12. The reel seat of claim 11, wherein said second bore extends through the entire axial length of said inner member.
