- 2. The reinforced lacrosse head of claim 1, wherein said at least one reinforcement member is insert-molded within at least one of said pair of opposing sidewall portions.
- 3. The reinforced lacrosse head of claim 1, wherein said at least one reinforcement member is insert-molded within said base portion.
- 4. The reinforced lacrosse head of claim 1, wherein said at least one reinforcement member is insert-molded within said scoop portion.
- 5. The reinforced lacrosse head of claim 1, wherein said at least one reinforcement member is insert-molded within said throat portion.
- 6. The reinforced lacrosse head of claim 1, wherein each of said at least one reinforcement member has a generally tubular construction.
- 7. The reinforced lacrosse head of claim 1, wherein said at least one reinforcement member is located in a stiffening rib of the head.
- 8. The reinforced lacrosse head of claim 1, wherein each of said at least one reinforcement member is comprised of a material selected from the group consisting of an aluminum material, a titanium material, and a graphite material.
- 9. A reinforced lacrosse head comprising:
a pair of opposing open sidewall portions each having a top end and a bottom end with each of said sidewall portions having at least one non-string hole opening formed therein; a base portion extending between and connecting said bottom ends of said pair of opposing open sidewall portions; a scoop portion extending between and connecting said top ends of said pair of opposing open sidewall portions; a throat portion extending from said base portion for receipt of a lacrosse handle therein; at least one stiffening rib integrally formed within each of said pair of opposing sidewall portions; and at least one reinforcement member coupled to said at least one stiffening rib formed in each of said pair of opposing sidewall portions.
- 10. The reinforced lacrosse head of claim 9, wherein said at least one reinforcement member is insert-molded within said at least one stiffening rib.
- 11. The reinforced lacrosse head of claim 9, wherein said at least one reinforcement member is insert-molded within said base portion.
- 12. The reinforced lacrosse head of claim 9, wherein said at least one reinforcement member is insert-molded within said scoop portion.
- 13. The reinforced lacrosse head of claim 9, wherein said at least one reinforcement member is insert-molded within said throat portion.
- 14. The reinforced lacrosse head of claim 9, wherein each of said at least one reinforcement member has a tubular construction.
- 15. The reinforced lacrosse head of claim 14, wherein said tubular construction has a cross-sectional shape selected from the group consisting of a circle, an ellipse, a regular polygon, and an irregular polygon.
- 16. The reinforced lacrosse head of claim 9, wherein said at least one reinforcement member is comprised of a material selected from the group consisting of an aluminum material, a titanium material, and a graphite material.
- 17. A reinforced lacrosse head comprising:
a pair of opposing open sidewall portions each having a top end and a bottom end, each of said pair of opposing open sidewall portions further including at least two rail portions extending between said top end and said bottom end; at least one cross member extending between and connecting said at least two rail portions; a base portion extending between and connecting said bottom ends of said pair of opposing open sidewall portions; a scoop portion extending between and connecting said top ends of said pair of opposing open sidewall portions; a throat portion extending from said base portion and intended to connect to a lacrosse handle; and at least one reinforcement member coupled to at least one of said at least one cross member, said base portion, said scoop portion, and said throat portion.
- 18. The reinforced lacrosse head of claim 17, wherein said at least one reinforcement member is insert-molded within said at least one cross member.
- 19. The reinforced lacrosse head of claim 17, wherein each of said at least one reinforcement member has a tubular construction with a cross-sectional shape selected from the group consisting of a circle, an ellipse, a regular polygon, and an irregular polygon.
- 20. The reinforced lacrosse head of claim 17, wherein each of said at least one reinforcement member is comprised of a material selected from the group consisting of an aluminum material, a titanium material, and a graphite material.
- 21. A method of forming a lacrosse head, comprising:
determining a configuration for the lacrosse head; selecting a location for at least one reinforcement member to be located in the lacrosse head; molding the lacrosse head out of a plastic material such that said at least one reinforcement member is insert molded with the lacrosse head.
- 22. The method of claim 21, wherein the lacrosse head is formed by conventional plastic injection molding process.
- 23. The method of claim 21, wherein the lacrosse head is formed by a gas-assist injection molding process.
- 24. The method of claim 21, wherein the lacrosse head is formed by a structural foam molding process.
- 25. The method of claim 23, wherein said at least one reinforcement member is disposed adjacent a cavity formed in the head during said gas-assist injection molding process.
- 26. The method of claim 21, wherein said at least one reinforcement member is formed in a stiffening rib of the lacrosse head.
- 27. The method of claim 21, wherein said at least one reinforcement member is formed of a titanium material.
