Claims
- 1. A golf club head comprising an enclosed meal body in the shape of a head for a golf driver, the metal body having:
- a. a front striking face of predetermined height and width
- b. a sole of predetermined length and width,
- c. a back side,
- d. a toe,
- e. a heel,
- f. a top side of predetermined length and width, and
- g. a hosel positioned adjacent the heel,
- wherein the metal body has an internal cavity formed by internal surfaces of the striking face, the sole, the back side, the toe, the heel, and the top side and wherein the top side includes an integral ridge extending along the top side form a location near the toe to a location near the heel, the ridge extending alternatingly towards the striking face and the back side so as to form a pattern of reinforcing protrusions, the reinforcing protrusions extending rearwardly from adjacent the striking face.
- 2. The golf club head of claim 1, wherein the profusions terminal short of the back side.
- 3. The golf club head of claim 1, further comprising at least one rib extending along and between the internal surface of the striking face and the internal surface of the top side to reinforce both the striking face and the top side.
- 4. The golf club head of claim 3, wherein the rib comprises a fit element of substantially uniform cross-sectional area extending along more than half of the height of the internal surface of the striking face and a second member interconnecting the top side and the striking face and extending for less than half of the length of the top side and extending for less than half of the height of the striking face.
- 5. The golf club head of claim 3, wherein the sole has at least one additional ridge extending along the length of the sole.
- 6. The golf club head of claim 5, wherein the additional ridge extends along more than half of the length of the sole and terminates short of the striking face and short of the back side.
- 7. The golf club head of claim 1, wherein the sole has at least one additional ridge extending along the length of the sole.
- 8. The golf club head of claim 7, wherein the additional ridge extends along more than half of the length of the sole and terminates short of the striking face and short of the back side.
- 9. A golf club head comprising an enclosed metal body in the shape of a head for a golf driver, the metal body having:
- a. a front striking face of predetermined height and width,
- b. a sole of predetermined length and width,
- c. a back side,
- d. a toe,
- e. a heel,
- f. a top side of predetermined length and width, and
- g. a hosel positioned adjacent the heel,
- wherein the metal body has an integral cavity formed by internal surface of the striking face, the sole, the back side, the toe, the heel, and the top side and wherein at least one rib extends along and between the internal source of the striking face and the internal surface of the top side to reinforce both the striking face and the top side and wherein the rib comprises a first element of substantially uniform cross-sectional area extending along more than half of the height of the internal surface of the striking face and a second member interconnecting the top side and the striking face and extending for less than half of the length of the top side and extending for less than half of the height of the striking face.
- 10. The gold club head of claim 9, wherein the sold has at least one integral ridge extending along the length of the sole.
- 11. The golf club head of claim 10, wherein the ridge extends along more than half of the length of the sole and terminates short of the striking face and short of the back side.
- 12. The golf club head of claim 9, wherein the top side has corrugated reinforcing profusions extending rearwardly from adjacent the striking face.
- 13. A golf club head comprising an enclosed metal body in the shape of a head for a golf driver, the metal body having:
- a. a font striking face of predetermined height and width,
- b. a sole of predetermined length and width,
- c. a back side,
- d. a toe,
- e. a heel,
- f. a top side of predetermined length and width, and
- g. a hosel positioned adjacent the heel,
- wherein metal body has an internal cavity formed by internal surfaces of the striking face, the sole, the back side, the toe, the heel, and the top side and wherein the top side includes a plurality of molded, integral corrugations, the corrugations defining alternating reinforcing protrusions and depressions, the reinforcing protrusions extending rearwardly from a location short of the striking face.
- 14. The golf club head of claim 13, further comprising at least one rib extending along and between the internal surface of the striking face and the internal surface of the top side to reinforce both the striking face and the top side.
- 15. The golf club head of claim 14, wherein the rib comprises a first element of substantially uniform cross-sectional area extending along more than half of the height of the internal surface of the striking face and a second member interconnecting the top side and the striking face and extending for less than half of the length of the top side and extending for less than half of the height of the striking face.
- 16. The golf club head of claim 14, wherein the sole has at least one ridge extending along the length of the sole.
- 17. The golf club head of claim 13, wherein the protrusions terminate short of the back side.
- 18. The golf club head of claim 13, wherein the sole has at least one ridge extending along the length of the sole.
- 19. The golf club head of claim 18, wherein the ridge extends along more than half of the length of the sole and terminates short of the striking face and short of the back side.
- 20. A method of fabricating a golf club head comprising an enclosed metal body in the shape of a head for a golf driver, comprising the steps of:
- forming a first part of the metal body, said first part having:
- a. a front striking face of predetermined height, width, and contour,
- b. an opening at the sole of predetermined length, width, and contour,
- c. a back side,
- d. a toe,
- e. a heel,
- f. a top side of predetermined length and width, and
- g. a hosel positioned adjacent the heel;
- forming a sole plate for positioning in the opening having the same length, width and contour as the predetermined opening at the sole of the first part and having at least one integrally formed sole ridge extending along a portion of its length; and
- fixing said sole plate in said opening such that the metal body has an internal cavity formed by internal surfaces of the striking face, the sold plate, the back side, the toe, the heel, and the top side.
- 21. The method of claim 20, wherein said metal body has formed therein at least one rib extending along and between the internal surface of the striking face and the internal surface of the top side to reinforce both the striking face and the top side.
- 22. The method of claim 20, wherein the hole ridge is formed to extend along more than half of the length of the hole plate and terminates short of the striking face and short of the back side.
- 23. A golf club head comprising an enclosed metal body in the shape of a head for a golf driver, the metal body having:
- a. a front striking face of predetermined height and width,
- b. a sole of predetermined length and width,
- c. a back side,
- d. a toe,
- e. a heel,
- f. a top side of predetermined length and width, and
- g. a hosel positioned adjacent the heel,
- wherein the metal body has an internal cavity formed by internal surfaces of the striking face, the sole, the back side, the toe, the heel, and the top side and wherein the sole has at least one integral sole ridge extending along the length of the sole and wherein the sole ridge extends along more than half to the length of the sole and terminates short of the internal surface of the striking face and short of internal surface of the back side.
- 24. The golf club head of claim 23, wherein said metal body further comprises at least one rib extending along and between the internal surface of the striking face and the internal surface of the top side to reinforce both the striking face and the top side.
- 25. The gold club head of claim 23, wherein the top side has corrugated reinforcing protrusions extending rearwardly from adjacent the striking face.
- 26. A method of fabricating a golf club head comprising an enclosed metal body in the shape of a head for a golf driver, comprising the steps of:
- forming a first part of the metal body, said first part having:
- a. a front striking face of predetermined height, width, and contour,
- b. an opening at the sole of predetermined length, width, and contour,
- c. a back side,
- d. a toe,
- e. a heel,
- f. a top side of predetermined length and width, and
- g. a hosel positioned adjacent the heel;
- forming a sole plate for positioning in the opening having the same length width and contour as the predetermined opening at the sole of the first part and having at least one integral sole ridge extending along more than half of the length of the sole plate and terminating short of the striking face and short of the back side; and
- fixing said sole plate in said opening such that the metal body has an internal cavity formed by internal surfaces of the striking face, the sole plate, the back side, the toe, the heel, and the top side.
