Claims
- 1. An apparatus to mechanically reinforce a thin wall hollow storage vessel formed of a solid thermoplastic organic polymer which comprises:
(a) helical winding means to wrap the outer surface storage vessel with at least one wrap of continuous reinforcement fibers selected from the group consisting of ceramics, metals, carbon and organic polymers, (b) a heat source to thermally bond the applied reinforcement fibers to the outer surface of said storage vessel, and (c) external fluid means to pressurize the hollow cavity of said storage vessel while thermal bonding of the reinforcement fibers is being carried out.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the external coolant means employs a gaseous medium.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the external coolant means employs a liquid medium.
