Claims
- 1. A reinforcing material surface-treated with an aqueous surface-treating agent comprising a carbodiimide compound of the formula:
- R.sub.2 --NCN--(R.sub.1 --NCN).sub.n --R.sub.2
- wherein R.sub.1 is a residue of a diisocyanate compound selected from the group consisting of:
- m- or p-tetramethylxylylene diisocyanate,
- 4,4'-dicylohexylmethane diisocyanate,
- isophorone diisocyanate,
- 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate, and
- 2,4- or 2,6-tolylene diisocyanate,
- R.sub.2 is a residue of a monoisocyanate selected from the group consisting of,
- cyclohexyl isocyanate,
- phenyl isocyanate, and
- butyl isocyanate, and
- n is an integer of from 2 to 30; or a carbodiimide compound of the formula:
- Z--OOC--NH--(R.sub.3 --NCN).sub.n --R.sub.3 --NH--COO--Z
- wherein R.sub.3 is a residue of a diisocyanate compound selected from the group consisting of:
- m- or p-tetramethylxylylene diisocyanate,
- 4. 4'-dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate, and
- isophorone diisocoyanate,
- n is an integer of from 2 to 30, and
- Z is R.sub.8 --(O--CHR.sub.9 --CH.sub.2).sub.m --OH
- wherein R.sub.8 is a lower alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms, R.sub.9 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and m is an integer of from 4 to 30;
- said carbodiimide compound being water-soluble or self-emulsifiable, and wherein the reinforcing material before treatment with said aqueous surface-treating agent is an inorganic or organic powder or fiber.
- 2. A reinforcing material according to claim 1, wherein the reinforcing material is selected from the group consisting of glass fiber, carbon fiber and aramid fiber.
- 3. A reinforcing material according to claim 1, which is further treated with a coupling agent.
- 4. A reinforcing material according to claim 2, which is further treated with a coupling agent.
- 5. A composite material comprising a matrix and a reinforcing material according to claim 1.
- 6. A composite material comprising a matrix and a reinforcing material according to claim 2.
- 7. A composite material comprising a matrix and a reinforcing material according to claim 3.
- 8. A composite material comprising a matrix and a reinforcing material according to claim 4.
- 9. A composite material according to claim 5, wherein the matrix is selected from the group consisting of a thermoplastic resin, a thermosetting resin and a rubber.
- 10. A composite material according to claim 6, wherein the matrix is selected from the group consisting of a thermoplastic resin, a thermosetting resin and a rubber.
- 11. A composite material according to claim 7, wherein the matrix is selected from the group consisting of a thermoplastic resin, a thermosetting resin and a rubber.
- 12. A composite material according to claim 8, wherein the matrix is selected from the group consisting of a thermoplastic resin, a thermosetting resin and a rubber.
