Claims
- 1. A reverse osmosis waste water drain coupling adapted for use between the outlet end of a waste water drain line tube of a reverse-osmosis water filtration installation, the outlet of a household garbage disposer attached to an in-counter household sink and a sink drain trap plumbed to a household sewer system, said coupling comprising a slip joint baffle Tee plumbing fitting with first and second normally open Tee inlets arranged with their respective flow axes generally transverse to one another and having an interior baffle for separating the incoming flows from said inlets, said baffle Tee having a tail piece slip portion forming a common outlet of the baffle Tee downstream of the interior baffle thereof, said Tee first inlet having a slip joint nut and associated seal washer thereon adapted for slip joint receiving a slip end of a tail piece of a standard slip joint plumbing fitting adapted to be coupled to the disposer outlet, said Tee second inlet having an adapter end closure with a through-opening therein and a drain line tube coupling having a drain line tube coupling passageway with an outlet end draining through said through-opening of said end closure and said passageway having an inlet end provided with a protuberance connector including a push connector adapted to be telescopically sealably coupled to the outlet end of said waste water drain line tube, wherein an inner diameter of said through opening is larger than an inner diameter of said passageway, and wherein said passageway outlet end and said end closure are molded as a one piece unit.
- 2. The coupling as set forth in claim 1 wherein said end closure comprises a circular member having a slight clearance fit within internal threads of a slip joint nut and having an unthreaded center opening, said end closure comprising a central boss provided on said circular member and having said through-opening located coaxial with said center opening of said circular member, the axis of the coupling passageway being oriented transverse to an axis of said opening of said circular member.
- 3. The coupling as set forth in claim 2 wherein said circular member comprises a cylindrical skirt and said central boss comprises an interiorly concave hollow dome joined at its wider end to said skirt and having an apex portion remote from said skirt and formed with a lateral protuberance forming the inlet end of said drain line tube coupling passageway.
- 4. The coupling set forth in claim 3 wherein said dome is conically shaped and said skirt is entirely cylindrically shaped.
- 5. The coupling set forth in claim 4 wherein said dome has a cone angle of about 45° and the axes of said skirt and protuberance passageway are generally perpendicular to one another.
- 6. The coupling set forth in claim 5 wherein said dome and said skirt are completely imperforate.
- 7. The coupling set forth in claim 1 wherein said second Tee inlet, said passageway and said end closure are molded as a one piece unit.
- 8. A reverse osmosis waste water drain adapter coupling adapted for use with standard slip joint drain plumbing fittings coupling a non-disposer sink directly to an associated sink drain trap or in parallel flow relation in a double sink in-counter installation to a first inlet of a baffle Tee having a second inlet coupled to a garbage disposer outlet and an outlet coupled to a sink drain trap associated with a disposer sink of the double sink installation;said coupling comprising a three-way slip joint fitting Tee having coaxial inlet and outlet ends adapted for serial flow slip coupling into said non-disposer sink plumbing fittings, said three-way slip joint fitting Tee having a side T-inlet oriented perpendicular to said ends, and an end closure adapter attached to said side T-inlet for sealably closing the same, said side T-inlet having external threads encircling a through-opening therein and a slip joint nut removably threadably received on said external threads and an associated annular seal removably received in said side T-inlet through-opening for removably sealably clamping said end closure adapter on said side T-inlet, said adapter including a drain elbow having an outlet end forming part of a through-opening of said end closure and having an inlet end provided with a push connector adapted to be telescopically coupled to an outlet of a reverse osmosis waste water drain line tube, said adapter comprising, a hollow tubular skirt having said through opening at a first axial end thereof to form said outlet end of said adapter, and an interiorly concave dome having a wide end connected to a second axial end of said skirt axially opposite said first axial end, and converging to an apex area spaced axially remote from said second axial end, and a tubular socket protuberance projecting from an exterior apex area of said dome and having a protuberence through passageway oriented with its axis transverse to a longitudinal axis of said skirt, said protuberance through passageway having said push connector for telescopically sealable receiving the outlet end of said waste water drain line and having an outlet of said through-passageway opening generally to an interior apex area of said dome whereby said protuberance and said dome form said elbow, wherein an inner diameter of said through opening is larger than an inner diameter of said protuberence through passageway, said skirt having at least a cylindrical slip fit portion thereof adjacent said first axial end diametrically sized for a slip fit into said side T-inlet to thereby form, with said dome, said end closure adapter, said annular seal encircling said slip fit portion of said skirt, a seal support surface on an interior of said side T-inlet and cooperating with said slip joint nut for compressing said seal member against said seal support surface and an exterior surface of said skirt slip fit portion.
- 9. In a household undercounter reverse osmosis water filtration installation associated with an in-counter double sink installation having first and second sinks and a garbage disposer suspended from said first sink and in drainage communication therewith, the garbage disposer having an outlet connected by standard slip fit plumbing fittings to a sink drain tap plumbed to the household sewer system, said second in-counter sink being mounted adjacent said first sink and having a second sink drain outlet at the bottom thereof without a garbage disposer connected thereto, and in which the reverse osmosis installation includes a reverse osmosis reject waste water bypass conduit means operable for flushing the reverse osmosis waste into an undercounter waste water drain line, the improvement in combination therewith of a waste water drainage system for coupling the waste water drain line into the sink drain trap in parallel drainage relation with the disposer outlet plumbing fittings, said improvement comprising:a baffle Tee plumbing fitting having first and second baffle Tee inlets oriented with their respective flow axes generally perpendicular to one another and having their input flow initially separated by an internal baffle, said baffle Tee plumbing fitting having a common slip baffle Tee outlet communicating with said Tee inlets downstream of said baffle and oriented with its flow axis generally parallel to one of said inlets, said baffle Tee outlet being slip coupled to an inlet of said sink drain trap via an associated slip joint nut and washer of said drain trap inlet, a standard slip fit single conduit plumbing fitting having an inlet end and an outlet slip end with inlet end coupled to the garbage disposer outlet and said outlet end slip coupled to said first baffle Tee inlet via an associated slip joint nut and washer of said baffle Tee first inlet, a series of slip joint standard plumbing fitting conduits connecting said second sink drain outlet to said baffle Tee second inlet, and a three-way Tee having coaxial inlet and outlet ends serially slip coupled into said standard plumbing fittings and having a side T-inlet oriented perpendicular to said ends, and a reverse osmosis waste water conduit coupled to said side T-inlet and to said waste water drain line, said reverse osmosis waste water conduit comprising a reverse osmosis drain elbow having an inlet serially connected to said waste water drain line, a plumbing fitting coupling connecting an outlet of said elbow with said side T-inlet, and an end closure comprising a closure member operably associated with said elbow and said coupling and sealably closing a normally open inlet of said plumbing fitting coupling, said plumbing fitting coupling including external threads on said side T-inlet of said three-way Tee, an associated slip joint nut threadably received on said external threads and an annular seal removably attached to said side T-inlet of said three-way Tee for sealably engaging said end closure when compressed by tightening of said slip joint nut on said external threads, said end closure having a through-opening therein, said drain elbow having an outlet draining through said through-opening of said closure member and having an inlet oriented with its axis transverse to an axis of said side T-inlet, said drain elbow and end closure together comprising, a hollow tubular skirt open at a first axial end thereof to form an outlet of said end closure, an interiorly concave dome having a wide end connected to a second axial end of said skirt axially opposite said first axial end, and converging to an apex area spaced axially remote from said second axial end, and a tubular socket protuberance projecting from an exterior apex area of said dome and having a protuberence through passageway oriented with its axis transverse to a longitudinal axis of said skirt, said protuberance through passageway having an inlet connector for sealably receiving an outlet end of said waste water drain line and having an outlet opening generally to an interior apex area of said dome whereby said protuberance and said dome form said elbow, said skirt having at least a cylindrical slip fit portion thereof adjacent said first axial end diametrically sized for a slip fit into said side T-inlet to thereby form, with said dome, said end closure, said plumbing fitting coupling also comprising said annular seal encircling said slip fit portion of said skirt, a seal support surface on an interior of said side T-inlet operably cooperating for compressing said seal against both said Tee seal support surface and an exterior surface of said skirt slip fit portion.
