Claims
- 1. A biopsy instrument comprising:a base assembly including a firing mechanism moveably attached to a distal end of said base assembly; a probe assembly detachably mounted to said base assembly, said probe assembly comprising: a piercer assembly comprising: a piercer comprising; a distal port; a vacuum lumen; a cutter lumen; a first gear mechanism affixed to a proximal end of said piercer; a probe mount supporting said piercer; a cutter assembly detachably affixed to said base assembly, said cutter assembly comprising; a cutter adapted to move through said cutter lumen; an adjustment wheel extending from a proximal end of said cutter assembly; a drive rod connected to said adjustment wheel said drive rod being operatively connected to said first gear mechanism; a drive assembly detachably mounted to said cutter assembly, said drive assembly including a flexible drive shaft operatively connected to said cutter.
- 2. A biopsy instrument comprising:a base assembly including a firing mechanism moveably attached to a distal end of said base assembly; a probe assembly moveably attached to said base assembly, said probe assembly comprising: a piercer assembly comprising: a piercer moveable from a proximal position to a distal position comprising: a distal port; a vacuum port; a cutter lumen; a first gear affixed to a proximal end of said piercer; a probe mount supporting said piercer wherein said probe mount comprises: a second gear affixed to a drive shaft, said second gear meshing with said first gear; a fork coupling detachably mountable to said firing mechanism; a cutter assembly detachably affixed to said base assembly, said cutter assembly comprising: a cutter adapted to move through said cutter lumen an adjustment wheel extending from a proximal end of said cutter assembly; a drive rod connected to said adjustment wheel, said drive rod being slideably affixed to a proximal end of said drive shaft such that rotation of said adjustment wheel rotates said piercer as said piercer moves from said proximal position to said distal position; a drive assembly detachably mounted to said cutter assembly, said drive assembly including a flexible drive shaft operatively connected to said cutter.
