Claims
- 1. A removable exercise pole comprising:
(a) a base; (b) a lower outer housing pole fixedly connected with the base; (c) an upper extension pole being manually and mechanically telescopable with respect to said lower outer housing pole and; (d) a tensioning mechanism comprising a compression mechanism and an adjustment mechanism, wherein the compression mechanism comprises a spacer disposed within the lower outer housing pole secured with the base or the lower outer housing at an end and with a compressible spring at an opposite end, and wherein the adjustment mechanism provides telescopic movement for the upper extension pole such that the upper extension pole may be held in constant tension by the compression mechanism; (e) a capture plug such that the upper extension pole is held in position when engaged in tension with an upper planar surface.
- 2. A removable exercise pole as in claim 1 wherein the base further comprises rubberized feet capable of absorbing downward mechanical force and providing friction on a lower planar surface against horizontal forces.
- 3. A removable exercise pole as in claim 1 wherein the base further comprises spiked feet capable of providing friction on a soft lower planar surface.
- 4. A removable exercise pole as in claim 1 wherein the adjustment mechanism comprises an adjustment nut removably secured with the upper extension pole and rotatably connected with a threaded rod, the threaded rod captured by the spacer and held in tension by the spring.
- 5. A removable exercise pole as in claim 4 wherein the threaded rod further comprises stop nuts at each end such that the adjustment nut cannot escape the threaded rod at one end and the threaded rod cannot escape the spacer at the other end.
- 6. A removable exercise pole as in claim 1 wherein the capture plug is a synthetic washer.
- 7. A removable exercise pole as in claim 1 wherein the upper extension pole and the lower outer housing pole are circular in cross-section.
- 8. A removable exercise pole as in claim 1 wherein the base is glued with the lower outer housing pole.
- 9. A removable exercise pole as in claim 1 wherein the lower outer housing pole is slidable over the upper extension pole.
- 10. A removable exercise pole as in claim 1 wherein the upper extension pole is clearly marked with an indicator so that a user will not extend the pole beyond the indicator.
- 11. A removable exercise pole as in claim 1 wherein the indicator is a stripe.
- 12. A removable exercise pole as in claim 1 wherein the capture plug further comprises a decorative hook whereby the hook may effectively disguise the capture plug.
- 13. A removable exercise pole as in claim 1 wherein the lower outer housing pole comprises at least two mating sections such that the lower outer housing pole may be reduced in overall length.
- 14. A method of installing a removable exercise pole comprising:
providing a removable exercise pole assembly; providing a capture plug suitably located on an upper horizontal planar surface; providing a lower horizontal planar surface that is substantially parallel to the upper horizontal planar surface; adjusting an extension bar by a manual adjustment such that the extension bar will be compressed when the exercise pole is fully perpendicular to the surfaces; locating the extension bar such that the extension bar is retained by the capture plug; compressing the extension bar in the direction of the capture plug such that the removable exercise pole assembly is freely adjustable with respect to the lower planar horizontal surface; and positioning the removable exercise pole assembly such that the assembly is positioned substantially perpendicular to the overhead horizontal surface.
- 15. The method of claim 14 wherein the minimum compression is between 0.75 and 2 inches.
- 16. The method of claim 14 wherein the minimum compression is approximately 1 inch.
