Claims
- 1. An electrode assembly for use in screening a pattern of luminescent primary color elemental phosphor areas upon the inner surface of a faceplate for a color cathode ray tube, said faceplate having registration affording means externally of said inner surface, said assembly comprising:
- a removable mount defining a central opening of span greater than the span of said inner surface of said faceplate;
- indexing means associated with said mount and cooperable directly with said registration affording means of said faceplate; and
- a planar foil, having a predetermined pattern of apertures, secured in tension on said mount across said mount opening;
- whereby said mount indexing means upon direct mating with said registration affording means of said faceplate permits repeatable precise registrations between said apertured foil and said faceplate to facilitate screening said pattern upon said inner surface, as well as to facilitate a subsequent mating of said planar foil to said faceplate with said foil apertures in registration with said elemental phosphor areas of said pattern during final sealing of said foil to said faceplate, whereby having the provision of said registration affording means externally of said faceplate inner surface, the viewable area of said inner surface is maximized and the faceplate size for a given screen area is minimized.
- 2. An assembly for use in the screening of a color cathode ray tube comprising:
- a faceplate having an inner surface thereon for receiving a pattern of luminescent primary color elemental phosphor areas,
- said faceplate having registration affording means disposed externally of said inner surface;
- a removable mount defining a central opening of span greater than the span of said inner surface of said faceplate;
- indexing means associated with said mount and mating directly with said registration affording means of said faceplate; and
- a planar foil having a predetermined pattern of apertures secured in tension on said mount across said mount opening, whereby having the provision of said registration affording means externally of said faceplate inner surface, the viewable area of said inner surface is maximized and the faceplate size for a given screen area is minimized.
- 3. An assembly for use in screening a pattern of luminescent primary color elemental phosphor areas upon the target surface of a faceplate for a color cathode ray tube, said faceplate having a defined sealing land area and having registration affording means comprising grooves disposed in said sealing land area, said mount assembly comprising:
- a removable mount defining a central opening of sufficient span to encompass said target surface of said faceplate;
- indexing means comprising rounded elements associated with said mount and positionable to said sealing land area for cooperating directly with said registration affording grooves of said faceplate; and
- a planar foil, having a predetermined pattern of apertures, secured in tension on said mount across said mount opening;
- whereby said mount indexing elements upon direct mating with said registration affording grooves in said sealing land area of said faceplate permits repeatable precise registrations between said apertured foil and said faceplate to facilitate screening said pattern upon said target surface, as well as to facilitate a subsequent mating of said planar foil to said faceplate with said foil apertures in registration with said elemental phosphor areas of said pattern during final sealing of said foil to said faceplate.
- 4. An assembly for use in the screening of a color cathode ray tube comprising:
- a faceplate having an inner surface thereon for receiving a pattern of luminescent primary color elemental phosphor areas;
- said faceplate having registration affording means disposed on the external periphery of the faceplate outside the CRT vacuum enclosure;
- a removable mount defining a central opening of span greater than the span of said inner surface and the sealing area of said faceplate;
- externally disposed indexing means associated with said mount and mating directly with said registration affording means on the exterior of said faceplate
- said registration affording means and said indexing means comprising a system of rounded elements mating with V-grooves and having a construction that permits ready removal of at least said registration affording means from said faceplate; and
- a planar foil having a predetermined pattern of apertures secured in tension on said mount across said mount opening;
- whereby said mount indexing means upon direct mating with said registration affording means of said faceplate permits repeatable precise registrations between said apertured foil and said faceplate to facilitate screening said pattern upon said target surface.
