Claims
- 1. A pump shaft assembly, comprising:
a shaft having an outer diameter with a keyway slot; a shaft sleeve having an exterior splined section, a bore that receives the shaft, and a keyway slot in the bore that mates with the keyway slot of the shaft to form a keyway; a key located in the keyway for transmitting torque between the shaft and the shaft sleeve; and a threaded section operatively associated with the shaft sleeve and the shaft to releasably secure the shaft sleeve axially to the shaft.
- 2. The shaft assembly according to claim 1, wherein the threaded section includes a threaded fastener.
- 3. The shaft assembly according to claim 1, wherein the threaded section comprises a threaded hole formed in the shaft and a threaded fastener that engages the shaft sleeve and secures to the threaded hole.
- 4. The shaft assembly according to claim 1, further comprising:
an internal band located within the bore, the band abutting an end of the shaft; and wherein the threaded section comprises
a threaded hole in the end of the shaft; and a threaded fastener that secures in the threaded hole and has a head that contacts the internal band to secure the shaft sleeve to the shaft.
- 5. The shaft assembly according to claim 1, further comprising:
an internal annular groove located within the bore; a retainer ring located in the groove and abutting an end of the shaft; and wherein the threaded section comprises:
a threaded hole in the end of the shaft; and a threaded fastener that secures in the threaded hole and has a head that contacts the retainer ring to secure the shaft sleeve to the shaft.
- 6. The shaft assembly according to claim 1, further comprising:
an internal annular groove located within the bore; a retainer ring located in the groove and abutting an end of the shaft; and wherein the threaded section comprises:
a threaded hole in the end of the shaft; and a threaded fastener that secures in the threaded hole and has a head that contacts the retainer ring to secure the shaft sleeve to the shaft, the head of the fastener having an outer diameter that is substantially the same as an outer diameter of the shaft, the head of the fastener having an end that protrudes past an end of the shaft sleeve.
- 7. The shaft assembly according to claim 1, wherein the shaft sleeve has a length that is greater than a length of the splined section.
- 8. The shaft assembly according to claim 1, wherein there is a tapered clearance section between a width of the keyway and a width of the key.
- 9. The shaft assembly according to claim 1, wherein the key has a tapered width section, defining a tapered clearance between a width of the keyway and the width of the key, the tapered with section being farther from an end of the shaft than an opposite end of the key.
- 10. The shaft assembly according to claim 1, further comprising a coupling sleeve having internal splines that mate with the external splines of the shaft sleeve, the coupling sleeve extending past an end of the shaft for coupling to splines of another shaft.
- 11. A submersible pump assembly having first and second components coupled together, each having a shaft and a connection between the shafts for transmitting torque, comprising:
a shaft end on the shaft of the first component having an outer diameter with a keyway slot; a shaft sleeve having an exterior splined section, a bore that receives the shaft end, and a keyway slot in the bore that mates with the keyway slot of the shaft end to form a keyway; a key located in the keyway for transmitting torque between the shaft end and the shaft sleeve; a threaded hole formed in the shaft end; a threaded fastener that secures to the threaded hole and engages the shaft sleeve to releasably secure the shaft sleeve to the shaft end; and a coupling sleeve having internal splines that engage the external splined section of the shaft sleeve, the coupling sleeve being in engagement with a shaft end assembly of the second component for transmitting torque between the shafts of the first and second components.
- 12. The submersible pump assembly according to claim 11, wherein the threaded hole is formed in an end face of the shaft end, the shaft sleeve extends past the end face of the shaft end, and the threaded fastener has a head that protrudes past an end of the shaft sleeve for transmitting thrust from the shaft of the second component.
- 13. The submersible pump assembly according to claim 11, further comprising:
a shoulder on the shaft sleeve; the threaded hole being located in the end face of the shaft; and the threaded fastener having a head that contacts the shoulder to secure the shaft sleeve to the shaft end.
- 14. The submersible pump assembly according to claim 11, further comprising:
an internal annular groove located within the bore of the shaft sleeve; a retainer ring located in the groove and abutting an end face of the shaft end; the threaded hole being located in the end face of the shaft end coaxial with an axis of the shaft end; the threaded fastener having a head that contacts the retainer ring to secure the shaft sleeve to the shaft; and the head of the threaded fastener being positioned for transmitting axial loads between the shafts of the first and second components.
- 15. The submersible pump assembly according to claim 11, wherein the shaft sleeve has a length that is substantially greater than a length of the splined section.
- 16. The shaft assembly according to claim 11, wherein there is a tapered clearance section between a width of the keyway and a width of the key, the tapered clearance section being located farther from an end face of the shaft end than an opposite end of the key.
- 17. A submersible pump assembly having first and second components that are coupled together, each having a shaft and a connection between each of the shafts for transmitting torque and axial loads, comprising:
a shaft end on the shaft of the first component having an outer diameter with a keyway slot; a shaft sleeve having an exterior splined section, a bore that receives the shaft end, and a keyway slot in the bore that mates with the keyway slot of the shaft end to form a keyway; a key located in the keyway for transmitting torque between the shaft end and the shaft sleeve; a threaded hole extending inward from an end face of the shaft end coaxial with an axis of the shaft end; a threaded fastener that secures to the threaded hole and engages an outward facing shoulder of the shaft sleeve to releasably secure the shaft sleeve to the shaft end; a coupling sleeve having internal splines that engage the external splined section of the shaft sleeve, the coupling sleeve being in engagement with a shaft end assembly of the second component for transmitting torque between the shafts of the first and second components; and the fastener having a head positioned for transmitting axial loads between the shafts of the first and second components.
- 18. The submersible pump assembly according to claim 17, wherein the shaft sleeve extends past the end face of the shaft end, and the head of the fastener protrudes past the shaft sleeve.
- 19. The submersible pump assembly according to claim 17, wherein the shoulder on the shaft sleeve comprises an internal band located within the bore, the band abutting an end face of the shaft end.
- 20. The submersible pump assembly according to claim 17, wherein the shoulder on the shaft sleeve comprises a retainer ring located within an internal annular groove in the bore of the shaft sleeve.
