Claims
- 1. A phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream comprising an organic component effective to retain a majority of phenolic compounds in an organic phase upon separation, said stream comprising at least 40 wt. % water, less than 20 wt. % phenolic compounds, alkali metal salts in an amount of at least 1.5 wt. %, phenolic tars, and α-methyl styrene dimers, wherein the volume ratio of water to all ingredients in said stream other than water is between 1:1 and about 3:1.
- 2. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 1 comprising 50 wt. % or more of water, greater than 5 wt. % cumene, greater than 1 wt. % α-methyl styrene, less than 10 wt. % phenol, phenolic tars present in an amount of less than 6 wt. %, and α-methyl styrene dimers present in an amount of less than 4 wt. %.
- 3. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 1 comprising an organic diluent having a density less than said phenolic compounds, said diluent being present at a weight ratio to said quantity of crude phenolic bottoms stream of from 0.45 to 0.6:1.
- 4. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 1 comprising an organic diluent having a density less than said phenolic compounds, said diluent being present at a weight ratio to said crude phenolic bottoms stream least of 0.3:1.
- 5. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 1 comprising an organic diluent having a density less than said phenolic compounds, said diluent being present at a weight ratio to said crude phenolic bottoms stream of at least 0.15:1.
- 6. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 2 comprising an organic diluent having a density less than said phenolic compounds, said diluent being present at a weight ratio to said quantity of crude phenolic bottoms stream of 0.45 to 0.6:1.
- 7. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 2 comprising an organic diluent having a density less than said phenolic compounds, said diluent being present at a weight ratio to said crude phenolic bottoms stream of at least 0.3:1.
- 8. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 2 comprising an organic diluent having a density less than said phenolic compounds, said diluent being present at a weight ratio to said crude phenolic bottoms stream of at least 0.15:1.
- 9. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 3 wherein said diluent has a combined hydrocarbon density of 51-53.5 pcf.
- 10. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 3 wherein said organic diluent comprises from about 60 to about 90 wt. % cumene and from about 10 to about 30 wt. % of AMS.
- 11. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 3 wherein said diluent is selected from the group consisting of a cumene, AMS, and a combination thereof.
- 12. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 4 wherein said diluent has a combined hydrocarbon density of 51-53.5 pcf.
- 13. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 4 wherein said organic diluent comprises from about 60 to about 90 wt. % cumene and from about 10 to about 30 wt. % of AMS.
- 14. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 4 wherein said diluent is selected from the group consisting of cumene, AMS, and a combination thereof.
- 15. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 5 wherein said diluent has a combined hydrocarbon density of 51-53.5 pcf.
- 16. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 5 wherein said organic diluent comprises from about 60 to about 90 wt. % cumene and from about 10 to about 30 wt. % of AMS.
- 17. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 5 wherein said diluent is selected from the group consisting of cumene, AMS, and a combination thereof.
- 18. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 6 wherein said diluent has a combined hydrocarbon density of 51-53.5 pcf.
- 19. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 6 wherein said organic diluent comprises from about 60 to about 90 wt. % cumene and from about 10 to about 30 wt. % of AMS.
- 20. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 6 wherein said diluent is selected from the group consisting of cumene, AMS, and a combination thereof.
- 21. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 7 wherein said diluent has a combined hydrocarbon density of 51-53.5 pcf.
- 22. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 7 wherein said organic diluent comprises from about 60 to about 90 wt. % cumene and from about 10 to about 30 wt. % of AMS.
- 23. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 7 wherein said diluent is selected from the group consisting of cumene, AMS, and a combination thereof.
- 24. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 8 wherein said diluent has a combined hydrocarbon density of 51-53.5 pcf.
- 25. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 8 wherein said organic diluent comprises from about 60 to about 90 wt. % cumene and from about 10 to about 30 wt. % of AMS.
- 26. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 8 wherein said diluent is selected from the group consisting of cumene, AMS, and a combination thereof.
- 27. A phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream comprising an organic component effective to retain a majority of phenolic compounds in an organic phase upon separation, said stream comprising:a first quantity of a crude phenolic bottoms stream comprising a second quantity of phenolic compounds; a third quantity of diluent which is phase compatible with said crude phenolic bottoms stream, said third quantity comprising a weight ratio of diluent to said first quantity of crude phenolic bottoms stream of from 0.15:1 to 0.6:1, said diluent having a density effective at said third quantity to separate a majority of said phenolic compounds into said organic phase; and an amount of water effective to produce a volume ratio of water to a remainder of said phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of at least 1:1.
- 28. A phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream comprising an organic component effective to retain a majority of phenolic compounds in an organic phase upon separation, said stream comprising:a first quantity of a crude phenolic bottoms stream comprising a second quantity of phenolic compounds; a third quantity of diluent which is phase compatible with said crude phenolic bottoms stream, said third quantity comprising a weight ratio of diluent to said first quantity of crude phenolic bottoms stream of from 0.45:1 to 0.6:1, said diluent having a density effective at said third quantity to separate a majority of said phenolic compounds into said organic phase; and an amount of water effective to produce a volume ratio of water to a remainder of said phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of at least 1:1.
- 29. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 27 comprising a weight ratio of said diluent to said crude phenolic bottoms stream of at least 0.3:1.
- 30. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 27 wherein said volume ratio of water to a remainder of said crude phenolic bottoms stream is from 1:1 to 3:1.
- 31. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 27 wherein said amount of water is at least 40 wt. %.
- 32. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 28 wherein said amount of water is at least 40 wt. %.
- 33. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 29 wherein said amount of water is at least 40 wt. %.
- 34. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 30 wherein said amount of water is at least 40 wt. %.
- 35. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 27 wherein said amount of water is at least 50 wt. %.
- 36. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 28 wherein said amount of water is at least 50 wt. %.
- 37. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 29 wherein said amount of water is at least 50 wt. %.
- 38. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 30 wherein said amount of water is at least 50 wt. %.
- 39. A phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream comprising an amount of water and an organic component effective to retain a majority of phenolic compounds in an organic phase upon separation, said stream further comprising:AMS:3-10wt. %Cumene:10-40wt. %Phenol:5-25wt. %AP:7-20wt. %DMBA:1-5wt. %CP:7-20wt. %AMSd:3-10wt. %Tars/Heavies:6-20wt. %Salts:0.05-0.25wt. %.
- 40. A phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream comprising an amount of water and an organic component effective to retain a majority of phenolic compounds in an organic phase upon separation, said stream further comprising:AMS:0.5-8wt. %Cumene:5-15wt. %Phenol:3-10wt. %AP:3-10wt. %DMBA:0.2-4wt. %CP:3-10wt. %AMSd:1-5wt. %Tars/Heavies:3-8wt. %Salts:2-5wt. %.
- 41. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 39 wherein said amount of water is effective to produce a ratio of water to all other ingredients in said stream of at least about 1:1.
- 42. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 39 wherein said amount of water is effective to produce a ratio of water to all other ingredients in said stream of from about 1:1 to about 3:1.
- 43. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 40 wherein said amount of water is effective to produce a ratio of water to all other ingredients in said stream of at least about 1:1.
- 44. The phase separable crude phenolic bottoms stream of claim 40 wherein said amount of water is effective to produce a ratio of water to all other ingredients in said stream of from about 1:1 to about 3:1.
- 45. A phase separable crude phenol bottoms stream comprising phenolic compounds, water, and a weight ratio of diluent to a crude phenol bottoms composition of at least 0.15:1, said diluent being effective to retain a majority of said phenolic compounds in an organic phase upon separation.
- 46. The phase separable crude phenol bottoms stream of claim 45 wherein said ratio is 0.6 or less.
- 47. The phase separable crude phenol bottoms stream of claim 45 wherein said weight ratio is 0.3:1 or more.
- 48. The phase separable crude phenol bottoms stream of claim 46 wherein said weight ratio is 0.3:1 or more.
- 49. The phase separable crude phenol bottoms stream of claim 45 wherein said weight ratio is from 0.45 to 0.6:1.
