Claims
- 1. The method of removing volatile toxic substances from drinking water comprising the steps of:
- providing a container which can be opened and closed and which is constructed, when closed, to contain water and to sustain an internal vacuum and a temperature of at least 200.degree. F.;
- providing drinking water and heating the water until steam vapor rises from the surface;
- opening said container and partially filling the container with said water so that there is an open space above the surface of the water; and
- closing said partially filled container and placing in a refrigerator having a internal temperature range between 32.degree. and 40.degree. F. for at least five hours to create a vacuum in said space so that volatile, toxic organic substances in said drinking water exit from the drinking water and enter said space.
- 2. The method of removing volatile toxic substances from drinking water comprising the steps of:
- providing a container which can be opened and closed and which is constructed, when closed, to contain water and to sustain an internal vacuum and a temperature of at least 200.degree. F.;
- providing drinking water and heating the water until steam vapor rises from the surface;
- opening said container and partially filling the container with said water so that there is an open space above the surface of the water; and
- closing said partially filled container; and permitting said closed container to remain in a room temperature environment for approximately two hours, and then placing the container in a refrigerator having an internal temperature range between 32.degree. F. and 40.degree. F.; for at least five hours whereby to create a vacuum in said space so that volatile, toxic organic substances in said drinking water exit from the drinking water and enter said space.
