Claims
- 1. A method for removing metal contaminant from a crystalline aluminosilicate catalyst which has been contaminated with from 2000 to 15,000 ppm of vanadium along with the deposition of coke by use in converting a hydrocarbon feedstock containing vanadium which comprises contacting a regenerated crystalline aluminosilicate catalyst with molecular chlorine at from about 500.degree. to 900.degree. F. and separating a volatile chloride of vanadium from said catalyst, said catalyst having been regenerated by contacting at a temperature of from about 900.degree. to 1,350.degree. F. with an amount of oxygen sufficient to effect combustion of at least 85 percent of said coke to gaseous products comprising carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in a ratio of carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide of at least 1:4 thereby providing a reducing atmosphere during regeneration and deterring formation of pentavalent vandium on said catalyst.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 wherein said regenerated catalyst is initially treated with hydrogen, carbon monoxide or a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide at about 900.degree. to 1,300.degree. F.
- 3. A method according to claim 1 wherein from 5 to 50 percent of said vanadium is converted to said volatile chloride.
- 4. A method according to claim 1 wherein from 10 to 40 percent of said vanadium is converted to said volatile chloride.
- 5. A method according to claim 1 wherein said regenerated catalyst is additionally contaminated with iron and where a volatile chloride of iron is separated from said catalyst.
- 6. A method according to claim 1 wherein said regenerated catalyst is subsequently treated with hydrogen at 500.degree. to 900.degree. F.
- 7. A method according to claim 6 wherein said regenerated catalyst is treated with hydrogen along with hydrogen sulfide or ammonia or hydrogen sulfide and ammonia.
- 8. A method for removing metal contaminant from a crystalline aluminosilicate catalyst which has been contaminated with from 2000 to 15,000 ppm of vanadium and up to 3000 ppm of nickel along with the deposition of coke by use in converting a hydrocarbon feedstock containing vanadium and nickel which comprises contacting a regenerated crystalline aluminosilicate catalyst with carbon monoxide at about 100.degree. to 400.degree. F., separating nickel carbonyl from said catalyst, contacting said catalyst with molecular chlorine at from about 500.degree. to 900.degree. F. and separating a volatile chloride of vanadium from said catalyst, said catalyst having been regenerated by contacting at a temperature of from about 900.degree. to 1300.degree. F. with an amount of oxygen sufficient to effect combustion of at least 85% of said coke to gaseous products comprising carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in a ratio of carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide of at least 1:4 thereby providing a reducing atmosphere during regeneration and deterring formation of pentavalent vanadium on said catalyst.
- 9. A method according to claim 8 wherein said regenerated catalyst is initially treated with hydrogen, carbon monoxide or a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide at about 900.degree. to 1,300.degree. F.
- 10. A method according to claim 8 wherein from 5 to 50 percent of said nickel is converted to said carbonyl and from 5 to 50 percent of said vanadium is converted to said volatile chloride.
- 11. A method according to claim 8 wherein from 10 to 40 percent of said nickel is converted to said carbonyl and from 10 to 40 percent of said vanadium is converted to said volatile chloride.
- 12. A method according to claim 8 wherein said regenerated catalyst is additionally contaminated with iron and where a volatile chloride of iron is separated with said chloride of vanadium.
- 13. A method according to claim 8 wherein said regenerated catalyst is subsequently treated with hydrogen at 500.degree. to 900.degree. F.
- 14. A method according to claim 13 wherein said regenerated catalyst is treated with hydrogen along with hydrogen sulfide or ammonia or hydrogen sulfide and ammonia.
