Claims
- 1. A replaceable printed board assembly (PBA) for use in a shelf of a telecommunications system, wherein said shelf is for connection both to a telephone network and to a wideband network and having a plurality of subscriber lines for connection to subscriber equipment at a plurality of subscriber premises, said replaceable PBA comprising:
a corresponding plurality of lowpass filters, each having:
a first port for connection to a plain old telephone service (POTS) interface (50) comprising a plurality of twisted copper pairs; and a second port for connection to a corresponding second plurality of twisted copper pairs for connection to said corresponding plurality of customer premises and to said wideband network via a wideband multiplex bus of said shelf.
- 2. A replaceable printed board assembly (PBA) for use in a shelf of a telecommunications system, wherein said shelf is for connection both to a telephone network and to a broadband network and having a plurality of subscriber lines for connection to subscriber equipment at a plurality of subscriber premises, said replaceable PBA comprising:
a corresponding plurality of lowpass filters, each having:
a first port for connection to a plain old telephone service (POTS) interface (50); and a second port for connection to a twisted copper pair (36)for connection to one of said plurality of customer premises and to said broadband network via a broadband multiplex bus of said shelf.
- 3. The replaceable printed board assembly of claim 2, wherein said plurality of lowpass filters equals four lowpass filters, wherein said replaceable PBA is for connection to four subscriber lines.
- 4. The replaceable printed board assembly of claim 2, wherein said second port is for connection to said broadband network via said broadband multiplex bus of said shelf for connection to a highpass filter of a line termination card connected to said broadband multiplex bus of said shelf.
- 5. The replaceable printed board assembly of claim 2, wherein said twisted copper for connection to said second port is for termination at said one of said plurality of customer premises at a lowpass filter for connection to a POTS terminal at said customer premises and is for termination also at a highpass filter for connection to a broadband terminal at said customer premises.
- 6. The replaceable printed board assembly of claim 5, wherein said lowpass filter at said customer premises is located in a network interface device comprising an enclosure mounted on an outside wall of said subscriber premises.
- 7. The replaceable printed board assembly of claim 2, wherein said shelf is a splitter shelf.
- 8. A replaceable printed board assembly (PBA), comprising:
a plurality of lowpass filters, each having:
a first port for connection to a plain old telephone service (POTS) interface (50); and a second port for connection to a twisted copper pair (36) for termination at a customer premises and at a broadband network.
- 9. The replaceable printed board assembly of claim 8, wherein said plurality of lowpass filters equals four.
- 10. The replaceable printed board assembly of claim 8, for use in a shelf of a telecommunications system.
- 11. The replaceable printed board assembly of claim 10, wherein said plurality of lowpass filters comprises four lowpass filters.
- 12. The replaceable printed board assembly of claim 8, wherein said second port is for connection to said broadband network via a highpass filter.
- 13. The replaceable printed board assembly of claim 8, for use in a splitter shelf of a telecommunications system.
- 14. The replaceable printed board assembly of claim 8, wherein said twisted copper pair is for connection to said customer premises by terminating said twisted copper pair at a lowpass filter at said customer premises for connection to a POTS terminal also at said customer premises and at a highpass filter for connection to a broadband terminal also at said customer premises.
- 15. The replaceable printed board assembly of claim 8, wherein said twisted copper pair is for connection at said customer premises to a network in terface device including a lowpass filter mounted therein, wherein said network interface device is for mounting on an outside wall of said customer premises.
- 16. A replaceable printed board assembly (PBA) for use in a shelf of a telecommunications system, said replaceable PBA comprising:
a plurality of lowpass filters, each having:
a first port for connection to a plain old telephone service (POTS) interface (50); and a second port for connection to a twisted copper pair for connection to a customer premises and to a broadband network via a broadband multiplex bus of said shelf.
- 17. The replaceable printed board assembly of claim 16, wherein said plurality of lowpass filters comprises four lowpass filters.
- 18. The replaceable printed board assembly of claim 16, wherein said shelf is a splitter shelf.
- 19. The replaceable printed board assembly of claim 16, wherein said broadband multiplex bus of said shelf is connected to line termination equipment having highpass filtering for blocking said POTS from said broadband network.
- 20. The replaceable printed board assembly of claim 16, wherein said twisted copper pair terminates at said customer premises at both a lowpass filter and a highpass filter, the lowpass filter for blocking broadband signals from a POTS terminal connected thereto, and the highpass filter for blocking POTS service from a broadband terminal connected thereto.
