Claims
- 1. A method of replacing a selected panel of a cladding system, the system having vertical and horizontal structural support comprising the steps of:
- removing panel to be replaced from the cladding system to provide an opening;
- removing at least previously mounted side hangers and previously mounted bottom hanger from the opening to provide access to the vertical and horizontal structural supports;
- mounting side hangers and bottom hanger in the opening attached to the vertical and horizontal structural supports of the system;
- providing an adhesive between replacement panel and the side hangers and bottom hanger mounted in the opening of the system; and
- urging the replacement panel against the hangers to flow the adhesive therebetween to secure the replacement panel in the opening.
- 2. The method as set forth in claim 1 wherein the opening is defined by top edge by a top hanger, and the horizontal structural support at bottom edge includes a horizontal spline and the vertical structural support at each of opposed sides includes a vertical spline and wherein said mounting step includes:
- positioning a side hanger on each of the vertical splines and the bottom hanger on the horizontal spline; and wherein
- said providing an adhesive step includes:
- providing an adhesive on outer surface portions of the top hanger, side hangers and bottom hanger; and further including the step of:
- flowing a sealant into recess between adjacent edges of the replacement panel and previously installed panels.
- 3. The method as set forth in claim 2 wherein the opening further includes a horizontal spline defined as an intermediate horizontal spline between the top hanger and the horizontal spline defining the bottom edge of the opening and wherein said mounting step further includes:
- positioning a hanger on the intermediate horizontal spline; and wherein
- said providing a adhesive step further includes the step of providing an adhesive on outer surface portions of the hanger on the intermediate horizontal spline.
- 4. A method of replacing a selected panel of a cladding system comprising the steps of:
- removing the panel to be replaced to provide an opening defined at top edge by a top hanger mounted when the selected panel to be replaced is initially mounted to construct the cladding system, at bottom edge by a horizontal spline and at each of opposed sides by a vertical spline;
- cleaning outer surface of the top hanger;
- providing a replacement panel (1) having a bottom hanger secured on interior major surface of a sheet adjacent bottom edge of the sheet, the bottom hanger having an exterior groove for receiving the horizontal spline and (2) having a side hanger secured on the interior major surface of the sheet at each of opposed sides of the sheet, each of the side hangers having end portions extending beyond their adjacent side of the sheet;
- providing an adhesive on the outer surface of the top hanger;
- mounting the exterior groove of the bottom hanger of the replacement panel on the horizontal spline;
- biasing the replacement panel into the opening against the adhesive on the top hanger to secure panel portions to the top hanger; and
- securing extending portions of the side hangers to respective underlying vertical spline.
- 5. The method as set forth in claim 4 wherein the opening further includes a horizontal spline defined as an intermediate horizontal spline between the top hanger and the horizontal spline defining the bottom edge of the opening and wherein said mounting step further includes:
- mounting a hanger on the intermediate horizontal spline; and wherein
- said urging step further includes the step of providing an adhesive on outer surface portions of the hanger on the intermediate horizontal spline.
- 6. The method as set forth in claim 5 further including the step of:
- flowing a sealant into recess between adjacent edges of the replacement panel and previously installed panels.
- 7. A method of replacing a selected panel of a cladding system, comprising the steps of:
- removing the selected panel to provide an opening, the opening having a horizontal spline at top and bottom edges and a vertical spline at each of opposed sides;
- providing a replacement panel, the replacement panel including a sheet having a surface to face building interior defined as an inner surface and at least two hangers mounted on the inner surface of the sheet with at least one hanger having a groove and at least one hanger extending beyond the edge of the sheet;
- positioning the replacement panel in the opening; and
- securing the at least one hanger having a groove and the portions of the at least one hanger extending beyond the edge of the replacement panel to the horizontal or vertical splines.
- 8. The method as set forth in claim 7 wherein the top edge of the opening includes a top hanger mounted when the selected panel to be replaced is mounted to the cladding system, the replacement panel includes a sheet having (1) a hanger having an exterior groove secured on the inner surface of the sheet adjacent the bottom edge and (2) a hanger secured to the inner surface adjacent a side of the sheet and having portions extending beyond the adjacent side of the sheet.
- 9. The method as set forth in claim 8 wherein a side hanger is secured on the inner surface of the sheet at each of the opposed sides of the sheet and each of the side hangers have portions extending beyond their adjacent side of the sheet.
- 10. The method as set forth in claim 8 or 9 wherein said securing step includes:
- securing by way of fastener means the extending edge portions of the side hanger(s) to the underlying vertical spline.
- 11. The method as set forth in claim 10 wherein said removal step includes:
- cleaning outer surface of the top hanger,
- providing adhesive on cleaned outer surface of the top hanger; and
- said securing step includes biasing the replacement panel against the adhesive on the top hanger to secure panel portions to the top hanger.
- 12. The method as set forth in claim 11 wherein the opening includes a horizontal spline defined as an intermediate horizontal spline between the top hanger and the horizontal spline at the bottom edge of the opening and said providing step includes the step of:
- mounting a hanger on the intermediate horizontal spline; and
- said securing step includes the steps of:
- providing an adhesive on outer surface of the intermediate horizontal hanger; and
- biasing the replacement panel against the adhesive on the hanger on the intermediate horizontal spline.
- 13. The method as set forth in claim 12 wherein a sealant is provided between adjacent edges of the replacement panel and initially installed panels.
- 14. The method as set forth in claim 1 or 7 wherein the panel includes a glass sheet.
- 15. The method as set forth in claim 1 or 7 wherein the panel is a pair of sheets in a fixed relationship to one another to define a unit.
- 16. The method as set forth in claim 15 wherein the unit includes a pair of glass sheets spaced from one another to provide an air space therebetween.
- 17. The method as set forth in claim 8 wherein the panel is opaque to light.
