Claims
- 1. A method for displaying a measurement system, the method comprising:
displaying a diagram on a display, wherein the diagram includes one or more component icons visually indicating components of the measurement system, wherein the diagram also includes a special icon visually indicating that information regarding a portion of the measurement system has not yet been specified; receiving user input specifying information regarding the portion of the measurement system; and removing the special icon from the diagram in response to the user input.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the special icon has a special appearance that allows a user to easily notice the special icon in the diagram.
- 3. The method of claim 1,
wherein the special icon visually indicates that one or more components for the portion of the measurement system have not yet been specified; wherein said receiving user input comprises receiving user input regarding one or more components for the portion of the measurement system; wherein the method further comprises replacing the special icon with one or more component icons visually indicating one or more components for the portion of the measurement system.
- 4. The method of claim 3,
wherein the user input regarding the one or more components for the portion of the measurement system includes information specifying the one or more components for the portion of the measurement system.
- 5. The method of claim 3, further comprising:
determining the one or more components for the portion of the measurement system based on the user input.
- 6. The method of claim 5,
wherein the user input regarding one or more components for the portion of the measurement system includes information specifying desired functionality for the portion of the measurement system; wherein said determining the one or more components for the portion of the measurement system comprises determining one or more components that are able to perform the specified functionality.
- 7. The method of claim 5,
wherein the input regarding one or more components for the portion of the measurement system includes information specifying desired characteristics for the portion of the measurement system; wherein said determining the one or more components for the portion of the measurement system comprises determining one or more components that have the specified characteristics.
- 8. The method of claim 1,
wherein the special icon visually indicates that one or more properties for the portion of the measurement system have not yet been specified; wherein said receiving user input comprises receiving user input specifying the one or more properties for the portion of the measurement system.
- 9. The method of claim 1,
wherein the special icon visually indicates that one or more properties for one or more components in the portion of the measurement system have not yet been specified; wherein said receiving user input comprises receiving user input specifying the one or more properties for the one or more components in the portion of the measurement system.
- 10. The method of claim 1,
wherein said receiving user input specifying information regarding the portion of the measurement system comprises receiving user input specifying information regarding connection of a first component in the portion of the measurement system to one or more other components in the measurement system; wherein the method further comprises displaying one or more connections from the first component to the one or more other components in response to the user input.
- 11. The method of claim 1,
wherein said replacing the special icon with one or more component icons visually indicating one or more components for the portion of the measurement system comprises replacing the special icon with one or more component icons visually indicating one or more devices for the portion of the measurement system.
- 12. The method of claim 1,
wherein said receiving user input specify information regarding the portion of the measurement system comprises receiving user input to the special icon.
- 13. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
displaying a graphical user interface for specifying information regarding the portion of the measurement system; wherein said receiving user input comprises receiving user input to the graphical user interface.
- 14. The method of claim 13, further comprising:
receiving user input to the special icon to display the graphical user interface.
- 15. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
displaying a dialog for specifying information regarding the portion of the measurement system; wherein said receiving user input comprises receiving user input to the dialog.
- 16. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
displaying a wizard for specifying information regarding the portion of the measurement system; wherein said receiving user input comprises receiving user input to the wizard.
- 17. The method of claim 1,
wherein said receiving user input specify information regarding the portion of the measurement system comprises receiving user input to a menu.
- 18. The method of claim 17,
wherein said receiving user input specify information regarding the portion of the measurement system comprises receiving user input to a context menu; wherein the method further comprises receiving user input to the special icon to display the context menu.
- 19. The method of claim 1,
wherein the special icon represents a subsystem; wherein the special icon visually indicates that the subsystem has not yet been specified; and wherein said replacing the special icon with one or more component icons comprises replacing the special icon a plurality of component icons visually indicating a plurality of components in the subsystem.
- 20. The method of claim 1,
wherein the diagram also includes a second special icon visually indicating a second portion of the measurement system that has not yet been specified; receiving user input specifying information regarding the second portion of the measurement system; and replacing the second special icon with one or more component icons visually indicating one or more components for the second portion of the measurement system.
- 21. The method of claim 1,
wherein the special icon has an appearance of a cloud.
- 22. The method of claim 1,
wherein the special icon has an appearance of a puffy cloud.
- 23. The method of claim 1,
wherein the diagram illustrates a plurality of connections visually indicating coupling relationships between components of the measurement system.
- 24. The method of claim 1,
wherein the diagram includes one or more component icons visually indicating virtual components of the measurement system, wherein the virtual components do not correspond to physical devices.
- 25. The method of claim 1,
wherein one or more of the components in the measurement system correspond to physical devices; wherein at least a portion of the component icons in the diagram visually resemble physical devices in the measurement system.
- 26. The method of claim 1,
wherein one or more of the components in the measurement system correspond to units under test (UUTs); wherein said displaying the diagram comprises displaying a UUT component icon representing the UUT in the measurement system; wherein the UUT component icon visually resembles the respective UUT.
- 27. The method of claim 1,
wherein the diagram illustrates a computer-controlled measurement system operable to acquire measurement information from a unit under test (UUT).
- 28. A method for displaying a measurement system, the method comprising:
displaying a diagram on a display, wherein the diagram includes one or more component icons visually indicating components of the measurement system, wherein the diagram also includes a special icon visually indicating a portion of the measurement system that has not yet been specified; receiving user input specifying information regarding the portion of the measurement system; and replacing the special icon with one or more component icons visually indicating one or more components for the portion of the measurement system.
- 29. A method for displaying a measurement system, the method comprising:
displaying a diagram on a display, wherein the diagram includes one or more component icons visually indicating components of the measurement system, wherein the diagram also includes a special icon visually indicating an action required of a user; receiving user input to perform the action required of the user; and removing the special icon from the diagram in response to said receiving user input.
- 30. The method of claim 29, further comprising:
wherein the special icon visually indicates that the user is required to specify one or more components for the measurement system; wherein said receiving user input comprises receiving user input specifying the one or more components; wherein the method further comprises displaying one or more new component icons to replace the special icon, wherein each new component icon visually indicates a component specified by the user input.
- 31. The method of claim 29,
wherein said receiving user input comprises receiving user input dismissing the special icon; wherein said dismissing the icon causes removal of the special icon from the diagram without the user being required to perform the action indicated by the special icon.
- 32. The method of claim 29,
wherein the special icon visually indicates that the user is required to provide information regarding one or more components in the measurement system; wherein said receiving user input comprises receiving user input specifying the information regarding the one or more components.
- 33. The method of claim 32,
wherein said visually indicating that the user is required to provide information regarding one or more components in the measurement system comprises visually indicating that the user is required to provide information regarding one or more properties of one or more components in the measurement system; wherein said receiving user input comprises receiving user input specifying the one or more properties of the one or more components.
- 34. The method of claim 29,
wherein the special icon visually indicates that the user is required to provide information regarding desired functionality of the measurement system; wherein said receiving user input comprises receiving user input specifying the desired functionality of the measurement system.
- 35. A method for configuring a measurement system, the method comprising:
displaying a first icon on a display, wherein the icon visually indicates that at least one of an action or information is required by the user to specify a portion of a measurement system; and receiving user input specifying the portion of the measurement system; wherein the first icon is no longer displayed after the user input is received specifying the portion of the measurement system.
- 36. The method of claim 35, further comprising:
receiving user input selecting the first icon for configuration; wherein said receiving user input specifying the portion of the measurement system is performed after said user input selecting the first icon for configuration.
- 37. The method of claim 36,
wherein said receiving user input selecting the first icon for configuration comprises receiving user input clicking on the first icon.
- 38. The method of claim 35, further comprising:
receiving user input selecting the first icon for configuration; displaying one or more options for specifying the portion of the measurement system in response to said receiving user input selecting the first icon for configuration; receiving user input selecting one of the options; and receiving user input to configure the portion of the measurement system according to the selected option.
- 39. The method of claim 38,
wherein said displaying one or more options for specifying the portion of the measurement system comprises one of: displaying a wizard; displaying a graphical user interface; displaying a menu; displaying a palette.
- 40. The method of claim 38,
wherein said displaying one or more options for specifying the portion of the measurement system comprises displaying a wizard that is executable to present a graphical user interface for configuring the portion of the measurement system.
- 41. The method of claim 35,
wherein said receiving user input specifying the portion of the measurement system comprises:
receiving user input selecting the first icon for configuration; launching a wizard in response to said receiving user input selecting the first icon for configuration; and the wizard displaying a graphical user interface for configuring the portion of the measurement system.
- 42. The method of claim 35,
wherein said receiving user input specifying the portion of the measurement system comprises one of:
graphically associating an icon representing a measurement element onto the first icon; graphically associating an icon representing a measurement element onto a window in which the first icon appears; receiving user input to a GUI displayed proximate to the first icon.
- 43. The method of claim 35,
wherein said receiving user input specifying the portion of the measurement system comprises one of:
receiving user input specifying one or more hardware elements; receiving user input specifying one or more software elements.
- 44. The method of claim 35,
wherein the first icon has an appearance of a cloud.
- 45. The method of claim 35,
wherein the first icon has an appearance of a puffy cloud.

wherein the icon visually indicates that the user is required to specify a unit under test for the measurement system.

displaying a first icon on a display, wherein the icon visually indicates that at least one of an action or information is required by the user to specify a portion of a measurement system; receiving user input selecting the first icon for configuration; displaying one or more options for specifying the portion of the measurement system in response to said receiving user input selecting the first icon for configuration; and receiving user input selecting one or more of the displayed options to specify the portion of the measurement system.
- 53. A method for configuring a measurement system, the method comprising:
displaying a first icon on a display, wherein the icon visually indicates that at least one of an action or information is required by the user to specify a unit under test; and receiving user input specifying the unit under test; wherein the first icon is no longer displayed after the user input is received specifying the unit under test.
- 54. The method of claim 53, further comprising:
receiving user input selecting the first icon for configuration; wherein said receiving user input specifying the unit under test is performed after said user input selecting the first icon for configuration.
- 55. The method of claim 54, further comprising:
displaying a list of possible units under test on the display in response to said receiving user input selecting the first icon for configuration; wherein the user input specifying the unit under test comprises user input selecting one of the displayed units under test.
- 56. The method of claim 53,
wherein the first icon has an appearance of a cloud.
- 57. The method of claim 53,
wherein the first icon has an appearance of a puffy cloud.
- 58. A method for configuring a measurement system, the method comprising:
displaying a first icon on a display, wherein the icon visually indicates that at least one of an action or information is required by the user to specify a sensor for the measurement system; and receiving user input specifying the sensor; wherein the first icon is no longer displayed after the user input is received specifying the sensor.
- 59. The method of claim 58, further comprising:
receiving user input selecting the first icon for configuration; wherein said receiving user input specifying the sensor is performed after said user input selecting the first icon for configuration.
- 60. The method of claim 59, further comprising:
displaying a list of possible sensors on the display in response to said receiving user input selecting the first icon for configuration; wherein the user input specifying the unit under test comprises user input selecting one of the displayed sensors.
- 61. The method of claim 58,
wherein the first icon has an appearance of a cloud.
- 62. The method of claim 58,
wherein the first icon has an appearance of a puffy cloud.
- 63. A method for configuring a measurement system, the method comprising:
displaying a first icon on a display, wherein the icon visually indicates that at least one of an action or information is required by the user to specify a measurement hardware device for the measurement system; and receiving user input specifying the measurement hardware device; wherein the first icon is no longer displayed after the user input is received specifying the measurement hardware device.
- 64. The method of claim 63, further comprising:
receiving user input selecting the first icon for configuration; wherein said receiving user input specifying the measurement hardware device is performed after said user input selecting the first icon for configuration.
- 65. The method of claim 64, further comprising:
displaying a list of possible measurement hardware devices on the display in response to said receiving user input selecting the first icon for configuration; wherein the user input specifying the measurement hardware device comprises user input selecting one of the displayed measurement hardware devices.

wherein the first icon has an appearance of a cloud.
- 67. The method of claim 63,
wherein the first icon has an appearance of a puffy cloud.
- 68. An icon for configuring a measurement system,
wherein the icon is operable to be displayed on a display; wherein the icon visually indicates that at least one of an action or information is required by the user to specify a portion of the measurement system; wherein the icon is no longer displayed after the user input is received specifying the portion of the measurement system.

wherein the icon is operable to receive user input for configuring the portion of the measurement system.

displaying a first icon on a display, wherein the first icon visually indicates that at least one of an action or information is required by the user to specify a unit under test; receiving user input specifying the unit under test; hiding the first icon in response to said receiving user input specifying the unit under test; displaying a second icon on the display, wherein the second icon visually indicates that at least one of an action or information is required by the user to specify a sensor; receiving user input specifying the sensor; hiding the second icon in response to said receiving user input specifying the sensor; displaying a third icon on the display, wherein the third icon visually indicates that at least one of an action or information is required by the user to specify a measurement hardware device; receiving user input specifying the measurement hardware device; and hiding the third icon in response to said receiving user input specifying the measurement hardware device.
