- 2. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said time base correction means includes a variable delay circuit arranged to receive the signal reproduced by said reproducing means and to be operated by said clock signal.
- 3. An apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said recorded signal is a video signal; and clock signal forming means includes a synchronizing signal separation circuit for separating a synchronizing signal from said video signal produced from said variable delay circuit and a phase locked loop circuit arranged to receive the synchronizing signal separated by said synchronizing signal separation circuit and to produce said clock signal; and said variable delay circuit is arranged to be controlled on the basis of said clock signal.
- 4. An apparatus according to claim 3, wherein said system control means is arranged to set a response speed of said phase locked loop circuit.
- 5. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said system control means is arranged to be able to set the transportation speed of said record bearing medium transported by said transportation means at a first speed which is the same as a recording speed employed in recording said recorded signal and at a second speed which differs from said first speed; and to set the response speed of said time base correction means faster when said transportation speed is set at said second speed than when said transportation speed is set at said first speed.
- 6. A rotary head type reproducing apparatus comprising:
- a) a rotary head arranged to trace a tape-shaped record bearing medium on which many recorded tracks are formed in parallel with each other;
- b) moving means for moving said record bearing medium in a direction intersecting said recording tracks;
- c) clock signal forming means for forming a clock signal which has a time base fluctuation according to that of a signal reproduced by said rotary head;
- d) time base correction means for correcting the time base of the signal reproduced by said rotary head by using said clock signal; and
- e) system control means for setting a mode of said apparatus among a plurality of modes, said plurality of modes including:
- a first mode in which said moving means moves said record bearing medium to cause said rotary head to trace said record bearing medium in parallel with the longitudinal direction of said recording tracks; and
- a second mode in which said moving means moves said record bearing medium to cause said rotary head to trace said record bearing medium in the direction of intersecting the longitudinal direction of said recording tracks and said clock signal forming means operates at a faster response speed than in said first mode.
- 7. A rotary head type reproducing apparatus comprising:
- a) a rotary head arranged to trace a tape-shaped record bearing medium on which many recording tracks are formed in parallel with each other;
- b) rotative driving means for rotatively driving said rotary head;
- c) transportation means for transporting said tape-shaped record bearing medium in the lengthwise direction;
- d) first control means for controlling said rotative driving means so that the rotation phase of said rotary head coincides with a predetermined reference phase;
- e) second control means for controlling said transportation means to transport said record bearing medium so that said rotary head traces one of said recording tracks;
- f) first detecting means for detecting that the rotation phase of said rotary head is within a predetermined range relative to said reference phase;
- g) second detecting means for detecting that the tracing position of said rotary head is within a predetermined range of deviation from said one of said recording tracks;
- h) time base correction means for correcting the time base of a signal reproduced by said rotary head; and
- i) inhibiting means for inhibiting an operation of said time base correction means according to outputs of said first and second detecting means.
- 8. An apparatus according to claim 7, wherein said inhibiting means is arranged to inhibit the operation of said time base correction means either when the rotation phase of said rotary head is detected by said first detecting means to be deviating more than a predetermined degree from said reference phase or when the tracing position of said rotary head is detected by said second detecting means to be deviating more than a predetermined degree from said one of said recording tracks.
