Claims
- 1. A resilient abrasive article for sanding contoured work surfaces, consisting of:(a) a resilient foam substrate having an outer surface and a thickness of at least 3 millimeters; (b) an adhesive make coat on at least a portion of said outer surface, said make coat having a dry add-on weight from 15 grains/24 in2 to 50 grains/24 in2 and being selected from the group consisting of nitrile rubber, acrylic, epoxy, polyvinyl chloride, and butadiene rubber; (c) abrasive particles each having a portion embedded within said make coat; and (d) an anti-loading size coat arranged over said make coat and said abrasive particles, said anti-loading size coat having a dry add-on weight of less than 15 grains/24 in2, wherein said size coat is selected from the group consisting of phenolic resins, aminoplast resins having pendant α,β-unsaturated carbonyl groups, urethane resins, epoxy resins, ethylenically unsaturated resins, acrylated isocyanurate resins, urea-formaldehyde resins, isocyanurate resins, acrylated urethane resins, acrylated epoxy resins, bismaleimide resins, fluorene-modified epoxy resins, and combinations thereof.
- 2. A resilient abrasive article for sanding contoured work surfaces, consisting of:(a) a resilient foam substrate having a thickness of at least 3 millimeters; (b) a barrier layer arranged on said foam substrate; (c) an adhesive make coat arranged on said barrier layer, said make coat having a dry add-on weight from 15 grains/24 in2 to 50 grains/24 in2 and being selected from the group consisting of nitrile rubber, acrylic, epoxy, polyvinyl chloride, and butadiene rubber; (d) abrasive particles each having a portion embedded within said make coat; and (e) an anti-loading size coat arranged over said make coat and said abrasive particles, said anti-loading size coat having a dry add-on weight of less than 15 grains/24 in2, wherein said size coat is selected from the group consisting of phenolic resins, aminoplast resins having pendant α,β-unsaturated carbonyl groups, urethane resins, epoxy resins, ethylenically unsaturated resins, acrylated isocyanurate resins, urea-formaldehyde resins, isocyanurate resins, acrylated urethane resins, acrylated epoxy resins, bismaleimide resins, fluorene-modified epoxy resins, and combinations thereof.
- 3. A resilient abrasive article for sanding contoured work surfaces, consisting of:(a) a resilient foam substrate having an outer surface and a thickness of at least 3 millimeters; (b) an adhesive make coat arranged on at least a portion of said outer surface, said make coat having a dry add-on weight from 15 grains/24 in2 to 50 grains/24 in2 and being selected from the group consisting of nitrile rubber, acrylic, epoxy, polyvinyl chloride, and butadiene rubber; (c) abrasive particles each having a portion embedded within said make coat; (d) an intermediate size coat arranged on said make coat; and (e) an anti-loading size coat arranged on said intermediate size coat, said anti-loading size coat having a dry add-on weight of less than 15 grains/24 in2, wherein said anti-loading size coat is selected from the group consisting of phenolic resins, aminoplast resins having pendant α,β-unsaturated carbonyl groups, urethane resins, epoxy resins, ethylenically unsaturated resins, acrylated isocyanurate resins, urea-formaldehyde resins, isocyanurate resins, acrylated urethane resins, acrylated epoxy resins, bismaleimide resins, fluorene-modified epoxy resins, and combinations thereof.
- 4. A resilient abrasive article for sanding contoured work surfaces, consisting of:(a) a resilient foam substrate having an outer surface and a thickness of at least 3 millimeters; (b) a barrier layer arranged on said foam substrate outer surface; (c) an adhesive make coat arranged on said barrier layer, said make coat having a dry add on weight from 15 grains/24 in2 to 50 grains/24 in2 and being selected from the group consisting of nitrile rubber, acrylic, epoxy, polyvinyl chloride, and butadiene rubber; (d) abrasive particles each having a portion embedded within said make coat; (e) an intermediate size coat arranged on said make coat; and (f) an anti-loading size coat arranged on said intermediate size coat, said anti-loading size coat having a dry add-on weight of less than 15 grains/24 in2, wherein said anti-loading size coat is selected from the group consisting of phenolic resins, aminoplast resins having pendant α,β-unsaturated carbonyl groups, urethane resins, epoxy resins, ethylenically unsaturated resins, acrylated isocyanurate resins, urea-formaldehyde resins, isocyanurate resins, acrylated urethane resins, acrylated epoxy resins, bismaleimide resins, fluorene-modified epoxy resins, and combinations thereof.
