Claims
- 1. A clamp for mounting and securing a data storage disk on a hub comprising
- an annular body formed of resilient material;
- an interrupted flange extending from the outer peripheral surface of said annular body;
- resilient flexure portions extending inwardly and upwardly from the inner annular surface of said annular body to fixedly secure said annular body to said hub and to maintain said annular body in a deformed state; and
- a continuous projection formed at a lower surface of said annular body and extending downward from said annular body in a direction opposite the direction of the upward extension of said resilient flexure portions whereby said projections deform against said a surface of said disk to compressively retain said disk against said hub when said annular body is maintained in said deformed state.
- 2. The clamp of claim 1 wherein said annular body is slightly frusto-conical in the unstressed condition, presenting axial end surfaces which are 8 to 20 degrees inclined with respect to a plane perpendicular to the axis of said annular body and is deformed to a substantially cylindrical configuration in the assembled condition when constraining a disk on a hub.
- 3. The clamp of claim 1 wherein said continuous projection is of uniform cross section.
- 4. The clamp of claim 1 wherein said interrupted flange has equiangular flange portions separated by equiangular interruptions whereby a mounting tool may be advanced and rotated to engage the flange portions and may be rotated and retracted to disengage from said flange portions.
- 5. The clamp of claim 1 wherein the resilient material of which said annular body is formed has a coefficient of linear expansion substantially identical to the coefficient of expansion of the data storage disk which the clamp engages in the assembled condition.
- 6. A clamp for mounting and securing data storage disks on a hub comprising
- an annular body formed of resilient material with axial end surfaces that are slightly frusto-conical;
- resilient flexure potions extending inwardly and upwardly from the inner annular surface of said body portion to fixedly secure said annular body to said hub and to maintain said annular body in a deformed state; and
- a continuous projection formed at a lower surface of said annular body and extending in a direction opposite the direction of upward extension of said resilient flexure portions whereby said continuous projections deform against said disk to compressively retain said disk against said hub when said annular body is maintained in said deformed state.
- 7. The clamp of claim 6 wherein said continuous projection is of uniform cross section extending from said lower surface of said annular body.
- 8. The clamp of claim 7 wherein the resilient material of which said annular body is formed has a coefficient of linear expansion substantially identical to the coefficient of linear expansion of the data storage disk which the clamp engages in the assembled condition.
- 9. The clamp of claim 6 further comprising a flange portion extending from the outer peripheral surface of said annular body.
- 10. The clamp of claim 9 wherein said flange portion comprises an interrupted flange including a series of equiangular flange portions peripherally separated by equiangular interruptions whereby a mounting tool may be advanced and rotated to engage said interrupted flange portions and may be rotated and retracted to disengage from said interrupted flange portions.
