Claims
- 1. A resinous polymer decorative sheet material comprising:
- a base layer or substrate;
- a printing ink composition printed on said base layer or substrate in a pattern or design in which certain predetermined areas differ from and constrast with certain other predetermined areas; and
- a resinous wear layer positioned on and adhered to said printed pattern or design,
- certain predetermined portions of said resinous wear layer containing a relatively high concentration of polymerized and/or cross-linked reactive polymerizable monomers, and having a relatively high melt viscosity and mechanically embossed surface areas having a flat, dead or dull texture in registry with said certain predetermined areas of said printed pattern or design, and
- certain other predetermined portions of said resinous wear layer containing a relatively low concentration of polymerized and/or cross-linked reactive polymerizable monomers, and having a relatively low melt viscosity and surface areas having a sleek, smooth or lustrous finish in registry with said certain other predetermined areas of said printed pattern or design.
- 2. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 1, wherein said base layer or substrate comprises a resinous polymer composition.
- 3. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 1, wherein said high melt viscosities are in the Brabender torque reading range of from about 1000 to about 4000 meter-grams and said low melt viscosities are in the Brabender torque reading range of from about 300 to about 900, with the difference between said high and said low melt viscosities being at least about 250 meter-grams.
- 4. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 1, wherein said high melt viscosity portions have gloss level readings of from about 3 to about 70 and said low melt viscosity portions have gloss level readings of from about 13 to about 90, with the difference between said high and low gloss level readings being at least about 10 when the high gloss level reading is below 50 and at least about 20 when high gloss level reading is above 50.
- 5. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 1, wherein said base layer or substrate comprises an unblown or unfoamed resinous polymer composition.
- 6. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 1, wherein said base layer or substrate comprises a fused resinous polymer composition.
- 7. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 1, wherein said mechanically embossed surface areas have many fine lines embossed therein to provide said flat, dead or dull texture.
- 8. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 1, wherein said mechanically embossed surface areas have a parchment paper-like texture to provide said flat, dead or dull texture.
- 9. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 1, wherein said mechanically embossed surface areas have a roughened, sand-blasted finish to provide said flat, dead or dull texture.
- 10. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 1, wherein said mechanically embossed surface areas have many fine parallel lines embossed therein to provide said flat, dead or dull texture.
- 11. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 1, wherein said certain predetermined portions of said resinous wear layer are thermoset and said certain other predetermined portions of said resinous wear layer are thermoplastic.
- 12. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 1, wherein said certain predetermined areas in said printing ink composition contain a blowing or foaming inhibitor.
- 13. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 1, wherein said certain other predetermined areas of said printing ink composition contain a blowing or foaming inhibitor.
- 14. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 1, wherein said resinous wear layer is a non-foamable layer.
- 15. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 1, wherein said base layer or substrate comprises a blown or foamed resinous polymer composition.
- 16. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 15, wherein said blown or foamed resinous polymer composition is differentially blown or foamed in different portions thereof and possesses a chemically embossed surface comprising relatively elevated areas and relatively depressed areas.
- 17. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 16, wherein said relatively elevated areas are in registry with said sleek, smooth, glossy or lustrous finish areas of said wear layer and said relatively depressed areas are in registry with said flat, dead or dull mat texture areas of said wear layer.
- 18. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 15, wherein a resinous barrier coat having a thinness of from about 1 mil to about 6 mils is positioned between said printed pattern or design of said printing ink composition and said resinous wear layer.
- 19. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 15, wherein a resinous barrier coat having a thinness of from about 1 mil to about 6 mils is positioned between said base layer or substrate and said printed pattern or design of said printing ink composition.
- 20. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 1, wherein said polymerized and/or cross-linked reactive polymerizable monomers comprise a polyfunctional reactive polymerizable monomer.
- 21. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 20, wherein said polyfunctional reactive polymerizable monomer is pentaerythritol triacrylate.
- 22. A resinous polymer sheet material as defined in claim 20, wherein said polyfunctional reactive polymerizable monomer is trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate.
