Claims
- 1. A retail terminal assembly, comprising:
- a base assembly which includes a mounting structure having a number of mounting slots defined therein;
- a first mounting plate which is secured to a first mounting surface, said first mounting plate having a number of first mounting tabs secured thereto;
- a second mounting plate which is secured to a second mounting surface, said second mounting plate having a number of second mounting tabs secured thereto; and
- a core module assembly which operates to perform point-of-sale retail functions for a first period of time, and perform product demonstration retail functions for a second period of time, wherein (i) said number of first mounting tabs are positioned within said number of mounting slots so as to secure said base assembly to said first mounting plate when said core module assembly operates to perform point-of-sale retail functions for said first time period, and (ii) said number of second mounting tabs are positioned within said number of mounting slots so as to secure said base assembly to said second mounting plate when said core module assembly operates to perform product demonstration retail functions for said second time period,
- wherein the core module assembly includes (i) a housing, (ii) a main controller board positioned within the housing, (iii) a hard drive device positioned within the housing and electrically coupled to the main controller board, (iv) a data input device, electrically coupled to the main controller board, which is configured to allow a user to input data signals to the main controller board, (v) a plurality of electrical connectors, supported by the housing, which are configured to electrically couple the main controller board to a number of external devices, and
- wherein the plurality of electrical connectors includes (i) a cash drawer connector configured to electrically couple a cash drawer to the main controller board, (ii) a LAN connector configured to electrically couple a LAN to the main controller board, (iii) a scanner connector configured to electrically couple a scanner to the main controller board, (iv) a power connector configured to electrically couple a power supply to the main controller board, (v) an external speaker connector configured to electrically couple an external speaker to the main controller board, and (vi) a printer connector configured to electrically couple a printer to the main controller board.
- 2. The retail terminal assembly of claim 1, wherein:
- each of said number of mounting slots has a locking portion defined therein, and
- said number of first mounting tabs are positioned in said locking portion of said number of mounting slots when said base assembly is secured to said first mounting plate, and
- said number of second mounting tabs are positioned in said locking portion of said number of mounting slots when said base assembly is secured to said second mounting plate.
- 3. The retail terminal assembly of claim 1, further comprising a first fastener and a second fastener, wherein:
- said mounting structure further has a base locking aperture defined therein,
- said first mounting plate has a first plate locking aperture defined therein,
- said second mounting plate has a second plate locking aperture defined therein,
- said mounting structure is locked to said first mounting plate when (i) said base locking aperture is aligned with said first plate locking aperture, and (ii) said first fastener is positioned in both said base locking aperture and said first plate locking aperture while said base locking aperture is aligned with said first plate locking aperture, and
- said mounting structure is locked to said second mounting plate when (i) said base locking aperture is aligned with said second plate locking aperture, and (ii) said second fastener is positioned in both said base locking aperture and said second plate locking aperture while said base locking aperture is aligned with said second plate locking aperture.
- 4. The retail terminal assembly of claim 1, further comprising a locking lever which is pivotally secured to said mounting structure, wherein:
- said locking lever is positionable between a locked position and an unlocked position,
- said locking lever has a locking notch defined therein,
- said first mounting plate has a first locking flange defined therein,
- said second mounting plate has a second locking flange defined therein,
- said mounting structure is locked to said first mounting plate when said locking lever is positioned in said locked position such that said first locking flange is retained in said locking notch, and
- said mounting structure is locked to said second mounting plate when said locking lever is positioned in said locked position such that said second locking flange is retained in said locking notch.
- 5. The retail terminal assembly of claim 1, further comprising a number of first fasteners and a number of second fasteners, wherein:
- said first mounting plate has a number of first plate fastening apertures defined therein,
- said second mounting plate has a number of second plate fastening apertures defined therein,
- said first mounting surface has a number of first surface fastening apertures defined therein,
- said second mounting surface has a number of second surface fastening apertures defined therein,
- said first mounting plate is secured to said first mounting surface when (i) said number of first plate fastening apertures are aligned with said number of first surface fastening apertures, and (ii) said number of first fasteners are positioned in both said number of first plate fastening apertures and said number of first surface fastening apertures while said number of first plate fastening apertures are aligned with said number of first surface fastening apertures, and
- said second mounting plate is secured to said second mounting surface when (i) said number of second plate fastening apertures are aligned with said number of second surface fastening apertures, and (ii) said number of second fasteners are positioned in both said number of second plate fastening apertures and said number of second surface fastening apertures while said number of second plate fastening apertures are aligned with said number of second surface fastening apertures.
- 6. The retail terminal assembly of claim 1, further comprising a strap clamp, wherein:
- said second mounting plate has a number of fastening slots defined therein,
- said second mounting surface is substantially cylindrical in shape, and
- said second mounting plate is secured to said cylindrically-shaped mounting surface when said strap clamp is advanced (i) through said fastening slots, and (ii) around an outer circumference of said cylindrically-shaped mounting surface.
- 7. The retail terminal assembly of claim 1, wherein:
- said first mounting surface has a substantially horizontal orientation, and
- said second mounting surface has a substantially vertical orientation.
- 8. A method of mounting and operating a retail terminal having (i) a core module assembly, (ii) a base assembly which includes a mounting structure which has a number of mounting slots defined therein, (iii) a first mounting plate which has a number of first mounting tabs secured thereto, and (iv) a second mounting plate which has a number of second mounting tabs secured thereto, comprising the steps of:
- securing the first mounting plate to a first mounting surface;
- securing the second mounting plate to a second mounting surface;
- advancing the number of first mounting tabs into the number of mounting slots so as to mount the base assembly to the first mounting plate;
- attaching the core module assembly to the first base assembly;
- operating the core module assembly so as to perform point-of-sale retail functions for a first time period while the base assembly is mounted to the first mounting plate;
- removing the number of first mounting tabs from the number of mounting slots so as to detach the base assembly from the first mounting plate after the first time period operating step;
- advancing the number of second mounting tabs into the number of mounting slots so as to mount the base assembly to the second mounting plate;
- attaching the core module assembly to the second base assembly; and
- operating the core module assembly so as to perform product demonstration retail functions for a second time period while the base assembly is mounted to the second mounting plate,
- wherein the core module assembly includes (i) a housing, (ii) a main controller board positioned within the housing, (iii) a hard drive device positioned within the housing and electrically coupled to the main controller board, (iv) a data input device, electrically coupled to the main controller board, which is configured to allow a user to input data signals to the main controller board, (v) a plurality of electrical connectors, supported by the housing, which are configured to electrically couple the main controller board to a number of external devices, and
- wherein the plurality of electrical connectors includes (i) a cash drawer connector configured to electrically couple a cash drawer to the main controller board, (ii) a LAN connector configured to electrically couple a LAN to the main controller board, (iii) a scanner connector configured to electrically couple a scanner to the main controller board, (iv) a power connector configured to electrically couple a power supply to the main controller board, (v) an external speaker connector configured to electrically couple an external speaker to the main controller board, and (vi) a printer connector configured to electrically couple a printer to the main controller board.
- 9. The method of claim 8, wherein:
- the first mounting surface has a substantially horizontal orientation, and
- the second mounting surface has a substantially vertical orientation.
- 10. The method of claim 8, wherein (i) the mounting structure further has a base locking aperture defined therein, (ii) the first mounting plate has a first plate locking aperture defined therein, and (iii) the second mounting plate has a second plate locking aperture defined therein, further comprising the steps of:
- aligning the base locking aperture with the first plate locking aperture after the first mounting tab advancing step;
- positioning a first fastener in both the base locking aperture and the first plate locking aperture after the step of aligning the base locking aperture with the first plate locking aperture;
- aligning the base locking aperture with the second plate locking aperture after the second mounting tab advancing step; and
- positioning a second fastener in both the base locking aperture and the second plate locking aperture after the step of aligning the base locking aperture with the second plate locking aperture.
- 11. The method of claim 8, wherein (i) the mounting structure has a locking lever pivotally secured thereto, (ii) the locking lever is positionable between a locked position and an unlocked position, (iii) the locking lever has a locking notch defined therein, (iv) the first mounting plate has a first locking flange defined therein, and (v) the second mounting plate has a second locking flange defined therein, further comprising the steps of:
- positioning the locking lever in the locked position such that the first locking flange is retained in the locking notch after the first mounting tab advancing step;
- positioning the locking lever in the unlocked position such that the first locking flange is spaced apart from the locking notch after the first time period operating step; and
- positioning the locking lever in the locked position such that the second locking flange is retained in the locking notch after the second mounting tab advancing step.
- 12. The method of claim 8, wherein:
- the first mounting plate has a number of first plate fastening apertures defined therein,
- the second mounting plate has a number of second plate fastening apertures defined therein,
- the first mounting surface has a number of first surface fastening apertures defined therein,
- the second mounting surface has a number of second surface fastening apertures defined therein,
- the step of securing the first mounting plate to the first mounting surface includes the steps of (i) aligning the number of first plate fastening apertures with the number of first surface fastening apertures, and (ii) positioning a number of first fasteners in both the number of first plate fastening apertures and the number of first surface fastening apertures while the number of first plate fastening apertures are aligned with the number of first surface fastening apertures, and
- the step of securing the second mounting plate to the second mounting surface includes the steps of (i) aligning the number of second plate fastening apertures with the number of second surface fastening apertures, and (ii) positioning a number of second fasteners in both the number of second plate fastening apertures and the number of second surface fastening apertures while the number of second plate fastening apertures are aligned with the number of second surface fastening apertures.
- 13. A retail terminal assembly, comprising:
- a base assembly which includes a mounting structure having a number of mounting slots defined therein;
- a first mounting plate which is secured to a first mounting surface, said first mounting plate having a number of first mounting tabs secured thereto;
- a second mounting plate which is secured to a second mounting surface, said second mounting plate having a number of second mounting tabs secured thereto; and
- a core module assembly which operates to perform point-of-sale retail functions for a first period of time, and perform product demonstration retail functions for a second period of time, wherein (i) said number of first mounting tabs are positioned within said number of mounting slots so as to secure said base assembly to said first mounting plate when said core module assembly operates to perform point-of-sale retail functions for said first time period, and (ii) said number of second mounting tabs are positioned within said number of mounting slots so as to secure said base assembly to said second mounting plate when said core module assembly operates to perform product demonstration retail functions for said second time period,
- wherein the core module assembly includes (i) a housing, (ii) a main controller board positioned within the housing, (iii) a data input device, electrically coupled to the main controller board, which is configured to allow a user to input data signals to the main controller board, (iv) a plurality of electrical connectors, supported by the housing, which are configured to electrically couple the main controller board to a number of external devices, and
- wherein the plurality of electrical connectors include (i) a LAN connector configured to electrically couple a LAN to the main controller board, (ii) a scanner connector configured to electrically couple a scanner to the main controller board, and (iii) a power connector configured to electrically couple a power supply to the main controller board.
- 14. A method of mounting and operating a retail terminal having (i) a core module assembly, (ii) a base assembly which includes a mounting structure which has a number of mounting slots defined therein, (iii) a first mounting plate which has a number of first mounting tabs secured thereto, and (iv) a second mounting plate which has a number of second mounting tabs secured thereto, comprising the steps of:
- securing the first mounting plate to a first mounting surface;
- securing the second mounting plate to a second mounting surface;
- advancing the number of first mounting tabs into the number of mounting slots so as to mount the base assembly to the first mounting plate;
- attaching the core module assembly to the first base assembly;
- operating the core module assembly so as to perform point-of-sale retail functions for a first time period while the base assembly is mounted to the first mounting plate;
- removing the number of first mounting tabs from the number of mounting slots so as to detach the base assembly from the first mounting plate after the first time period operating step;
- advancing the number of second mounting tabs into the number of mounting slots so as to mount the base assembly to the second mounting plate;
- attaching the core module assembly to the second base assembly; and
- operating the core module assembly so as to perform product demonstration retail functions for a second time period while the base assembly is mounted to the second mounting plate,
- wherein the core module assembly includes (i) a housing, (ii) a main controller board positioned within the housing, (iii) a data input device, electrically coupled to the main controller board, which is configured to allow a user to input data signals to the main controller board, (iv) a plurality of electrical connectors, supported by the housing, which are configured to electrically couple the main controller board to a number of external devices, and
- wherein the plurality of electrical connectors include (i) a LAN connector configured to electrically couple a LAN to the main controller board, (ii) a scanner connector configured to electrically couple a scanner to the main controller board, and (iii) a power connector configured to electrically couple a power supply to the main controller board.
