The present invention relates generally to retention devices for retaining weapons, holsters, magazines and any other weapon accessories.
Handguns can be carried in a concealed manner in a wide variety of ways, from simply concealing or holding in clothes, pockets or compartments, or by concealed carry weapon (CCW) holsters, which are partially or completely covered by clothing. A wide variety of holsters for handguns have been created, including relatively compact or low profile designs which conform tightly to the barrel and trigger guard of a handgun.
Police and military personnel typically employ a variety of tactical gear to hold weapons, magazines, and other equipment on their person when not in active use. However, these types of holsters, pouches, etc., are usually not well suited for the concealed carry of such equipment.
The present invention seeks to provide a novel retention device for retaining weapons, holsters, magazines and any other weapon accessories, as is described more in detail hereinbelow.
Firearms, firearm accessories or other emergency gear are intended for quick-draw from belt-mounted platforms for ergonomic, rapid access in imminent threat or other emergency situations. However, when these same items are placed inside a backpack, they lose their quick-draw capabilities because they either have to be transferred to inferior systems (e.g., non-rigid hook-backed pouches), or they are not connected to the pack, and as a result, fall to the base of the pack and become entangled with other items in the pack; clearly, in such a situation, the firearm, firearm accessory or other emergency gear are no longer available for rapid deployment in an emergency.
The retention device of the invention solves these problems by enabling the user to mount any firearm, firearm accessory or other emergency gear (e.g., tourniquets) as the user would mount them on their intended platform, such as they would on a belt.
The retention device of the invention allows them to be mounted to the pack in fixed positions with optimal readiness as they would be on a belt. In addition, the rigidity of the retention device provides a counterforce, that is, a push-back force that releases the items from their casings (e.g., holsters and pouches) as they would when belt mounted, which prevents the item from getting stuck in its casing.
The retention device of the invention provides additional safety because the rigid portions of the device prevents fingers or foreign objects from entering the trigger area of the weapon, thereby preventing accidental discharge of the weapon, even if the weapon is carried in a concealed manner with a round in the chamber and even if the weapon is carried in a backpack and the like.
There is provided in accordance with a non-limiting embodiment of the present invention a retention device including a multi-hook-fastener platform, which includes a strap receiving member and a base, and a multi-hook-fastener strap, at least one side of the strap including a multi-hook fastener, wherein the strap receiving member includes a series of adjacent slots through which the multi-hook-fastener strap can be threaded.
In accordance with a non-limiting embodiment of the present invention the multi-hook-fastener strap includes segments, which more rigid than a rest of the multi-hook-fastener strap, spaced from each other along a length of the multi-hook-fastener strap.
In accordance with a non-limiting embodiment of the present invention one side of the base includes a multi-hook fastener.
In accordance with a non-limiting embodiment of the present invention the base of the multi-hook-fastener platform is constructed of a relatively rigid material and the multi-hook-fastener strap is constructed of a relatively flexible material.
In accordance with a non-limiting embodiment of the present invention the segments include inserts in the multi-hook-fastener strap.
In accordance with a non-limiting embodiment of the present invention the strap receiving member is spaced from the base so that the multi-hook fasteners of the multi-hook-fastener strap and the multi-hook fasteners of the base share a common plane.
The present invention will be understood and appreciated more fully from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the drawings in which:

The base 16 of multi-hook-fastener platform 12 may be constructed of a relatively rigid material, such as plastic or other suitable material. One side (preferably the underside) of base 16 includes a multi-hook fastener, such as a male VELCRO fastener (marked 20 in
Strap 18 may be constructed of a relatively flexible (that is, preferably more flexible than base 16) material, such as cloth (woven or non-woven), leather, plastic and others. At least one side of strap 18 includes a multi-hook fastener 24, such as a male VELCRO fastener. Strap 18 includes relatively rigid segments 26 (that is, more rigid than the rest of strap 18) spaced from each other along the length of strap 18. The relatively rigid segments 26 may be less rigid than, equally rigid as, or more rigid than base 16 or strap receiving member 14. The relatively rigid segments 26 may be inserts in the strap 18 or may be externally attached to strap 18. The relatively rigid segments 26 provide strap 18 with stiffness in one direction, but the strap 18 is still very flexible in other directions. This facilitates weaving (threading) strap 18 through slots 22. Accordingly, the segmented locking strap 18 interacts with the slotted strap receiving member 14 to adjust to any size weapon accessory and lock that accessory in place.

The multi-hook fastener 20 of base 16 can be attached to any complimentary multi-hook fastening surface 30, such as but not limited to, backpack linings, adhesive backed VELCRO surfaces (that can be glued to car doors, furniture, walls, etc.).
The strap 19 may serve as a concealed carry weapon (CCW) strap that can be used as an artificial belt for retaining holsters, pouches and other weapon accessories designed for attachment to a belt or clothing. The user can retain or attach the same pouches, holsters and other weapon accessories to the strap as would be done for attachment to a belt or clothing.
