Claims
- 1. A method for culturing virus MvP-5180, deposited with the European Collection of Animal Cell Culture (ECACC) under No. V 920 92 318, said method comprisingproviding blood of a person infected with virus MvP-5180, providing peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) from a person who is not infected with HIV, combining the blood with the PBL to create a culture, stimulating the PBL of the culture with phytohemagglutinin, and maintaining the stimulated PBL culture under conditions permitting stimulation and growth for a sufficient amount of time for detectable viral growth to occur.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the method further comprises adding new PBL from a person not infected with HIV after viral growth has begun.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the method further comprises inoculating different PBL from a donor not infected with HIV with supernatant obtained from the culture after viral growth has begun.
- 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising infecting H9 or HUT 78 cells with supernatant obtained from the culture after viral growth has begun.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the method further comprises purifying the cultured virus from the host cells used to culture it.
- 6. A method for culturing a variant virus, which is a variant of virus MvP-5180, wherein said variant has a genome that has a nucleotide sequence that shows at least 66% homology to SEQ ID NO:37 or SEQ ID NO:38, said method comprisingproviding blood of a person infected with the variant virus, providing peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) from a person who is not infected with HIV, combining the blood with the PBL to create a culture, stimulating the PBL of the culture with phytohemagglutinin, and maintaining the stimulated PBL culture under conditions permitting stimulation and growth for a sufficient amount of time for detectable viral growth to occur.
- 7. The method of claim 6, wherein the method further comprises adding new PBL from a person not infected with HIV after viral growth has begun.
- 8. The method of claim 6, wherein the method further comprises inoculating different PBL from a donor not infected with HIV with supernatant obtained from the culture after viral growth has begun.
- 9. The method of claim 6, further comprising infecting H9 or HUT 78 cells with supernatant obtained from the culture after viral growth has begun.
- 10. The method of claim 6, wherein the method further comprises purifying the cultured variant virus from the host cells used to culture it.
