Claims
- 1. Apparatus for blow molding a double-walled box, said apparatus comprising:
- a. a cavity, conforming to an outer wall of said box, positioned below a parison that can lower into said cavity;
- b. means for closing a bottom region of said parison disposed at a bottom region of said cavity;
- c. a core having at least two parts arranged above said cavity so that, in an open position, said core parts allow said parison to lower into said cavity;
- d. said core parts being closable on said parison above said cavity for pinching off and holding said parison above said cavity;
- e. means for moving one of said cavity and said core to position said core within said cavity so that a lower region of said parison forms an outside wall of said box against an inside surface of said cavity and an upper region of said parison forms an inside wall of said box against an outside surface of said core; and
- f. means for blowing said double-walled box to conform to the shape of a space between said core and said cavity.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein a clamp for closing and holding said bottom region of said parison is arranged in said bottom region of said cavity.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein a clamp for pinching off and holding said parison above said cavity is arranged in a bottom region of said core.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 1 including means for ballooning and deballooning said parison as said core and said cavity move together.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said parts of said core, in a closed position, have a hollow central region extending around said parison.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein said hollow central region of said core extends around an extrusion head forming said parison so that said extrusion head is below a top region of said core.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 1 including a blow pin extending into said parison in said space between said core and said cavity.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 1 including means for lubricating an inside surface of said parison before moving said core and said cavity together.
- 9. An apparatus for blow molding a double-walled box formed from a single parison, said apparatus including a core shaped to form an inside wall of said box and a cavity shaped to form an outside wall of said box, and said apparatus comprising:
- a. a clamp for closing and holding a lower region of said parison disposed at a bottom region of said cavity;
- b. a clamp for pinching off and holding an upper region of said parison spaced above said cavity at a bottom region of said core;
- c. means for moving one of said cavity and said core to position said cavity around said core and to invert said parison so that a lower region of said parison extends along an inner wall of said cavity, and an upper region of said parison extends along an outer wall of said core; and
- d. means for blowing said parison to form said double-walled box having an outside wall conforming to said inner wall of said cavity, having an inside wall conforming to said outer wall of said core, and having a depth greater than one-half its width.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein said core has at least two parts arranged, in an open position, to allow said parison to lower into said cavity and arranged, in a closed position, for closing said clamp for pinching off and holding said upper region of said parison.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said core, in said closed position, has a hollow central region surrounding said parison.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 11 wherein said core, in said closed position, surrounds an extrusion head forming said parison.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 11 including a blow pin extending into said parison in a region between said core and said cavity.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 9 including means for lubricating said parison before moving said cavity and said core together.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 9 including means for ballooning and deballooning said parison to facilitate inverting said parison between said cavity and said core.
- 16. Apparatus for blow molding a double-walled box, said apparatus including:
- a. a core formed of separable parts having outer surfaces shaped to form an inside wall of said box;
- b. a cavity having inner surfaces shaped to form an outside wall of said box;
- c. a bottom region of said cavity having a clamp for closing and holding a bottom region of said parison;
- d. said core parts being closable above said cavity, and a bottom region of said core parts carrying a clamp for pinching off and holding an upper region of said parison above said cavity;
- e. at least one of said cavity and said core being movable for positioning said cavity around said core while inverting said parison so that an upper half of said parison lies along said outer surfaces of said core and a lower half of said parison lies along said inner surfaces of said cavity; and
- f. means for blowing said parison to conform to a space between said core and said cavity, said upper half of said parison forming an inside wall of said box, and said lower half of said parison forming an outside wall of said box.
- 17. The apparatus of claim 16 wherein said core parts, when closed, have a hollow interior surrounding said parison.
- 18. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein said core parts, when closed, surround an extrusion head forming said parison.
- 19. The apparatus of claim 16 including means for ballooning and deballooning said parison for facilitating said inverting of said parison within said space between said core and said cavity.
- 20. The apparatus of claim 16 including means for lubricating an inside surface of said parison before moving said cavity and core together.
