Claims
- 1. In an wireless access control system, a method for providing a plurality available of communication channels for communication between a Wireless Access Point Module (WAPM) and a Wireless Panel Interface Module (WPIM), the method including the steps of:
defining a plurality of wireless channels; attempting to transmit from said WAPM to said WPIM using a first channel of said plurality of wireless channels; and attempting to transmit from said WAPM to said WPIM using a second channel of said plurality of wireless channels when communication over said first channel is not permitted.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein each of the available wireless channels is used to attempt to establish a valid communication link.
- 3. The method of claim 2 wherein each available wireless channel is checked a plurality of times. WPIM no longer attempt to communicate after each channel has been checked a plurality of times.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein said second channel is an adjacent channel in frequency.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein the second channel is randomly selected from the plurality of wireless channels.
- 7. The method of claim 1 wherein said plurality of available channels are partitioned into a plurality of groups of channels.
- 8. The method of claim 7 wherein said WAPM is assigned to a specific group of channels.
- 9. The method of claim 8 wherein said WAPM attempts to communicate over the other channels in said specific group when said WAPM is not able to communicate over a first channel in said group
- 10. The method of claim 9 wherein said WPIM no longer attempts to communicate after each channel in said group has been checked a plurality of times.
- 11. An RF access control system including:
a Wireless Access Point Module (WAPM); and a Wireless Panel Interface Module (WPIM), wherein a plurality of wireless channels are available for communication between said WAPM and said WPIM, and said WAPM attempts to transmit to said WPIM over a first channel and then said WAPM attempts to transmit to said WPIM over a second channel when transmission over said first channel fails.
- 12. The system of claim 11 wherein each of the available wireless channels is used to attempt to establish a valid communication link.
- 13. The system of claim 12 wherein each available wireless channel is checked a plurality of times.
- 14. The system of claim 13 wherein at least one of said WAPM and said WPIM no longer attempt to communicate after each channel has been checked a plurality of times.
- 15. The system of claim 11 wherein said second channel is an adjacent channel in frequency.
- 16. The system of claim 11 wherein the second channel is randomly selected from the plurality of wireless channels.
- 17. The system of claim 11 wherein said plurality of available channels are partitioned into a plurality of groups of channels.
- 18. The system of claim 17 wherein said WAPM is assigned to a specific group of channels.
- 19. The system of claim 18 wherein said WAPM attempts to communicate over the other channels in said specific group when said WAPM is not able to communicate over a first channel in said group
- 20. The system of claim 19 wherein said WPIM no longer attempts to communicate after each channel in said group has been checked a plurality of times.
