- 3. The ribbon assembly of claim 2 further comprising:
- adhesive or cohesive means disposed on at least a portion of the strip of material for adhesively connecting portions of the strip of material when same is formed into a decorative ribbon by selectively releasing the second portion of the elastic member extending along the ribbon support member so as to permit the second portion of the elastic member to move from a stretched condition towards an unstretched condition.
- 4. The ribbon assembly of claim 2 wherein the post means comprises:
- a first post member for selectively retaining the first portion of the elastic member extending along the strip of material in the unstretched condition until disengagement of the elastic member from the first post member and the retaining post means whereupon movement of the second portion of the elastic member from the stretched condition towards the unstretched condition causes the second portion of the elastic member to apply tension on the first portion of the elastic member provide the elastic member with a stretched condition substantially along the strip of material and the ribbon and thereby form the strip of material into the decorative ribbon supported on the second end of the ribbon support member.
- 5. The ribbon assembly of claim 4 wherein the retaining post means comprises:
- a plurality of retaining post members for selectively retaining the second portion of the elastic member extending along the ribbon support member in a stretched condition and for permitting the second portion of the elastic member retained in the stretched condition to be selectively released from the retaining post members whereby movement of the second portion of the elastic member from the stretched condition towards the unstretched condition causes the first portion of the elastic member extending along the strip of material to be placed under tension and thereby forms the strip of material into the decorative ribbon supported on the second end of the ribbon support member.
- 6. The ribbon assembly of claim 5 further comprising:
- adhesive or cohesive means disposed on at least a portion of the strip of material for adhesively connecting portions of the strip of material when same is formed into a decorative ribbon by selectively releasing the first portion of the elastic member from the first post member and the second portion of the elastic member from the retaining post members.
- 7. A ribbon assembly, comprising:
- a ribbon support member having a first end, a medial portion and a second end;
- a strip of material having a first end, a second end, an upper surface, a lower surface and a strip width extending between a first strip side and a second strip side, the first end of the strip of material connected to the second end of the ribbon support member, the strip of material being divided into a plurality of strip segments with each strip segment having a first segment end and a second segment end with the second segment end of each strip of material being disposed substantially adjacent the first segment end of the adjacent strip segment;
- an elastic member having a first portion and a second portion, the first portion of the elastic member connected to the strip of material near the second end thereof and the second portion of the elastic member connected to the ribbon support member a selected distance from the first end thereof, the elastic member having a stretched condition and an unstretched condition;
- first retaining means for maintaining the first portion of the elastic member extending along the strip of material in the unstretched condition; and
- second retaining means for maintaining the second portion of the elastic member extending along the ribbon support member in a stretched condition such that upon disengaging the first portion of the elastic member from the first retaining means and the second portion of the elastic member from the second retaining means the second portion of the elastic member extending along the ribbon support member cooperates with the first portion of the elastic member extending along the strip of material to form a decorative ribbon supported on the ribbon support member.
- 8. The ribbon of claim 7 wherein the first portion of the elastic member is slidably connected to the lower surface of the strip of material by a plurality of loose connection points disposed between each of the segments of the strip of material.
- 9. The ribbon assembly of claim 8 wherein the strip of material is defined further to include a plurality of recess means formed in the first strip edge and the second strip edge of the strip of material for cooperating to form the strip of material into a decorative ribbon.
- 10. The ribbon assembly of claim 9 further comprising:
- adhesive means disposed on the strip of material for adhesively connecting the first segment end to the second segment end of each segment of the strip of material and thereby secure the segments in a curved segment form when the first portion of the elastic member extending along the strip of material is released from the first retaining means and the second portion of the elastic member extending along the ribbon support member is released from the second retaining means.
- 11. The ribbon assembly of claim 7 wherein the strip of material is defined further to include a plurality of recess means formed in the first strip side and the second strip side of the strip of material for cooperating to form the strip of material into a decorative ribbon.
- 12. The ribbon assembly of claim 11 further comprising:
- adhesive means disposed on the strip of material for adhesively connecting the first segment end to the second segment end of each segment of the strip of material and thereby secure the segments in a curved segment form when the first portion of the elastic member extending along the strip of material is released from the first retaining means and the second portion of the elastic member extending along the ribbon support member is released from the second retaining means.
- 13. The ribbon assembly of claim 12 wherein the first retaining means comprises:

- 14. The ribbon assembly of claim 13 wherein the second retaining means comprises:
- a plurality of retaining post members for selectively retaining the second portion of the elastic member extending along the ribbon support member in the stretched condition and for permitting the second portion of the elastic member retained in the stretched condition to be selectively released from the retaining post members whereby movement of the second portion of the elastic member from the stretched condition towards the unstretched condition causes the first portion of the elastic member extending along the strip of material to be placed under tension and thereby forms the strip of material into the decorative ribbon supported on the second end of the ribbon support member.
- 15. The ribbon assembly of claim 8 wherein the first retaining means comprises:
- post means for receiving and selectively retaining a portion of the elastic member so that the first portion of the elastic member extending along the strip of material is maintained in the unstretched condition until disengagement of the elastic member from the post means and second retaining means whereupon the second portion of the elastic member applies tension on the first portion of the elastic member and thereby forms the strip of material into the decorative ribbon supported on the second end of the ribbon support member.
