Claims
- 1. In the art of manufacturing rigid-when-wet corrugated-board from a preformed web of medium and at least one performed web of liner, each of which has an obverse face and reverse face, the process comprising, surface-treating the reverse face of the liner web by printing thereon a controlled amount of a mixture composed with a curable thermosetting resinous material entrained in a vaporizable liquid vehicle without effecting the moisture absorbency of said obverse face, the thermosetting resinous material comprising about 35 to 65 percent by weight of the mixture when entrained in the vaporizable liquid vehicle, and immediately vaporizing at least a substantial part of the vehicle from the web by heating at a temperature and for a time less than that required to substantially advance the cure of the resinous material therein.
- 2. The process of claim 1 in which the resinous material is water miscible, and the vehicle is aqueous.
- 3. The process of claim 1 in which said mixture is liquid and has a viscosity of about 18 .+-. 0.5 seconds in a #2 Zahn cup at 88.degree. F.
- 4. The process of claim 1 including the step of printing discretely metered increments of said mixture of the thermosetting resinous material in said liquid vehicle in minutely spaced relationship.
- 5. The process of claim 1 wherein the quantity of resinous material applied to the reverse face of the liner web includes about 3.3 to 3.9 pounds per thousand square feet of liner.
