Claims
- 1. A process of initiating polymerization of a strained cyclic olefin comprising contacting said olefin with a dilute aqueous solution of a derivative of 7-oxanorbornene.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein said derivative of 7-oxanorbornene is selected from the group consisting of
- 3-methyl-7-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-ene;
- 3-methoxymethyl-7-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-ene;
- 3-carbinol-7-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-ene;
- 2,3-dicarbinol-7-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-ene;
- 2,3-di(trimethylsilylmethyl)-7-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]-hept-2-ene;
- 2,3-dimethoxymethyl-7-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-ene;
- 1-methyl-2,3-dimethoxymethyl-7-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]-hept-2-ene;
- 1-ethyl-2,3-dimethoxymethyl-7-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]-hept-2-ene;
- dimethyl-7-oxanorbornadi-2,5-ene-2,3-dicarboxylate;
