Claims
- 1. A device comprising:
a substrate having a plurality of OLED cells, the OLED cells comprising at least one organic layer formed between first and second conductive layers, the first and second conductive layers serving as first and second electrodes; and pillars on the substrate for patterning the second conductive layer to form the second electrodes, wherein portions of the pillars are split into at least 2 sub-rows to prevent shorting of adjacent electrodes.
- 2. The device of claim 1 wherein the ends of the pillars are split into at least 2 sub-rows.
- 3. The device of claim 1 wherein the pillars are split into 4 sub-rows.
- 4. The device of claim 2 wherein the sub-rows are substantially parallel.
- 5. The device of claim 2 wherein the sub-rows are non-parallel.
- 6. The device of claim 1 wherein the sub-rows are substantially parallel.
- 7. The device of claim 6 wherein the pillars comprise a profile with tapered sides.
- 8. The device of claim 1 wherein the sub-rows are non-parallel.
- 9. The device of claim 8 wherein the pillars comprise a profile with tapered sides.
- 10. A method for forming an OLED device comprising:
forming at least one device layer on a substrate; patterning the device layer to form pillars, wherein portions of the pillars are split into at least 2 sub-rows; and depositing a conductive layer on the substrate, wherein the pillars pattern the conductive layer to form electrodes and the sub-rows prevent adjacent electrodes from shorting.
- 11. The method of claim 10 wherein depositing the conductive layer comprises depositing the conductive layer through a shadow mask.
- 12. The method of claim 11 wherein portions of the pillars in close contact with the shadow mask are split into at least 2 sub-rows.
- 13. The method of claim 12 wherein the ends of the pillars are split into at least 2 sub-rows.
- 14. The method of claim 13 wherein the pillars are split into 4 sub-rows.
- 15. The method of claim 13 wherein the sub-rows are substantially parallel.
- 16. The method of claim 13 wherein the sub-rows are non-parallel.
- 17. The method of claim 11 wherein the sub-rows are substantially parallel.
- 18. The method of claim 11 wherein the sub-rows are non-parallel.
