- 3. The roller of claim 1, wherein the means for fixing comprises a plurality of radially disposed and spaced apart spokes rigidly interconnecting the inner elongate tubing to the outer elongate tubing.
- 4. A member suitable for an roller, comprising: a double-walled tube, wherein the tube comprises an outer elongate tubing having a first outside surface and a first inside surface; an inner elongate tubing having a second outside surface and a second inside surface, wherein the inner elongate tubing is concentrically disposed within the outer elongate tubing; and means for fixing the outer tubing relative to the inner tubing.
- 5. The member of claim 4, wherein the means for fixing comprises a first weld between the second outside surface of the inner elongate tubing and the first inside surface of the outer elongate tubing, the first weld being positioned a distance inward from one end of the inner elongate tubing and the outer elongate tubing, and a second weld between the second outside surface of the inner elongate tubing and the first inside surface of the outer elongate tubing, the second weld being positioned a distance inward from an opposite end of the inner elongate tubing and the outer elongate tubing.
- 6. The member of claim 4, wherein the means for fixing includes a plurality of radially disposed and spaced apart spokes rigidly interconnecting the inner elongate tubing to the outer elongate tubing, the spokes connecting the second outer surface of the inner elongate tubing to the first inside surface of the outer elongate tubing.
- 7. A roller comprising: a substantially cylindrical roller body having opposed ends, the roller body including an outer elongate tube; an inner elongate tube having an inner surface and concentrically disposed within the outer tube, and means for fixing the outer tubing relative to the inner tubing; and a pair of bearings, each spaced apart and press fit into the inner surface of the inner tube, at a distance apart form the ends of the roller body.
- 8. The roller of claim 7, wherein the means for fixing comprises a first weld between the inner elongate tube and the outer elongate tube, the first weld being positioned a distance inward from one end of the inner elongate tube and the outer elongate tube, and a second weld between the inner elongate tube and the outer elongate tube, the second weld being positioned a distance inward from an opposite end of the inner tube and the outer tube.
- 9. The roller of claim 8, wherein the outer elongate tube is pivotally connected to the first and second welds.
- 10. The roller of claim 7, wherein the means for fixing comprises a plurality of radially disposed and spaced apart spokes rigidly interconnecting the inner elongate tube to the outer elongate tube.
- 11. The roller of claim 10, wherein the outer elongate tube is pivotally connected to the plurality of radially disposed and spaced apart spokes.
- 12. A continuous web apparatus comprising:
a web having a first and second side; a first roller in contact the first side of the web; a second roller positioned oppositely to the first roller, and in contact with the second side of the web; wherein the second roller comprises an inner elongate tubing having an outer diameter, an outer elongate tubing having an inner diameter which is larger than the outer diameter of the inner tubing, the outer tubing being disposed about the inner tubing; and means for fixing the outer tubing relative to the inner tubing.
- 13. The continuous web apparatus of claim 12, wherein the means for fixing comprises a first weld between the inner tubing and the outer tubing, the first weld being positioned a distance inward from one end of the inner tubing and the outer tubing, and a second weld between the inner tubing and the outer tubing, the second weld being positioned a distance inward from an opposite end of the inner tubing and the outer tubing.
- 14. The continuous web apparatus of claim 12, wherein the means for fixing comprises a plurality of radially disposed and spaced apart spokes rigidly interconnecting the inner elongate tubing to the outer elongate tubing.
- 15. The continuous web apparatus of claim 13 wherein the outer elongate tubing pivots about the first and second welds to provide a uniform pressure to the second side of the web.
- 16. The continuous web apparatus of claim 14, wherein the outer elongate tubing pivots about the plurality of radially disposed and spaced apart spokes to provide a uniform pressure to the second side of the web.
- 17. A method of constructing a roller, comprising:
providing a length of tubing having opposed ends, and including an outer elongate tube, an inner elongate tube having an inner surface and concentrically disposed within the outer tube, and means for fixing the outer tubing relative to the inner tubing, and inserting a bearing assembly into the inner surface of the inner tube at a distance apart from an end of the tubing, the inner surface closely receiving the bearing assembly; and press-fitting a support shaft into the bearing assembly.
- 18. A method of assembling a roller comprising:
positioning an outer elongate tubing around an inner elongate tubing; and welding the outer tubing to the inner tubing, such that weldments are provided between the outer tubing and the inner tubing at a distance inward from opposite ends of the roller.
