Claims
- 1. A bearing unit for vehicle wheel support comprising:
a shaft being made of a carbon steel with a carbon content in the range of from 0.20% to 0.60% and having a mounting flange on one side thereof, an end on the other side thereof and a step portion between the mounting flange and the end, the end having a crimped portion formed through crimping by way of an oscillation press having an oscillation die with a recessed end face and a retaining jig, and an inner ring having an inner ring raceway thereon and fixed to the shaft between the step portion and the crimped portion, the crimped portion comprising a crimped connection characteristic of being formed by the recessed end face of the oscillation die.
- 2. A bearing unit in accordance with claim 1, wherein the crimped connection characteristic is further formed by a tilting angle of the oscillation die with reference to the shaft in the range of from 0.5 to 5.0 degrees.
- 3. A method of forming a bearing unit for vehicle wheel support comprising the steps of:
providing a shaft having a mounting flange, a step portion formed on one end portion thereof, and a crimped portion formed on the end side of the step portion, fitting an inner ring onto the step portion, said inner ring having an inner ring raceway thereon, and fixing the inner ring to the shaft by the crimped portion of the shaft by way of an oscillation press having an oscillation die with a recessed end face.
- 4. A method in accordance with claim 3, wherein the shaft is made of a carbon steel containing carbon in the range of from 0.20% to 0.60%.
- 5. A method in accordance with claim 4, wherein said oscillation die has a tilting angle in the range of from 0.5 to 5.0 degrees.
- 6. A method in accordance with claim 5, wherein said oscillation die has an oscillation rotating speed in the range of from 100 to 500 cycles per minute.
