Claims
- 1. A grinding wheel for an on-line roll grinding system of a strip rolling mill comprising a wheel disk and an abrasive layer adhered to one side of said wheel disk at a location spaced radially outwardly of a rotational axis of said wheel disk, said wheel disk having a predetermined spring constant so as to be sufficiently elastic to allow a portion of the wheel disk contacting a rolling mill roll being ground to elastically bend about said axis and function by itself as an elastic body which is sufficiently elastic to absorb vibration from a mill roll being around during grinding of said mill roll, wherein said wheel disk has a spring constant of 1000 Kgf/mm to 30 Kgf/mm.
- 2. A grinding wheel for an on-line roll grinding system of a strip rolling mill comprising a wheel disk and an abrasive layer adhered to one side of said wheel disk at a location spaced radially outwardly of a rotational axis of said wheel disk, said wheel disk having a predetermined spring constant so as to be sufficiently elastic to allow a portion of the wheel disk contacting a rolling mill roll being around to elastically bend about said axis and function by itself as an elastic body which is sufficiently elastic to absorb vibration from a mill roll being around during grinding of said mill roll, wherein said wheel disk has a spring constant of 500 Kgf/mm to 50 Kgf/mm.
- 3. A grinding wheel for an on-line roll grinding system according to claim 1, wherein said abrasive layer contains cubic boron nitride abrasives, said abrasives having a concentration of 50 to 100 and a grain size of 80 to 180, and a resin bond is used as a binder for said abrasives.
- 4. A rolling mill assembly comprising:
- a grinding wheel positioned to face and grind a mill roll during rolling operations of a rolling mill, and
- a measuring system for measuring at least one of mill roll contact forces on said grinding wheel and grinding wheel position when grinding said mill roll and for providing a roll profile sensing signal defendant on said at least one of said mill roll contact force and said grinding wheel position, whereby said grinding wheel functions as a roll profile sensor.
- 5. A rolling mill assembly according to claim 4, comprising a roll bender controlled as a function of the roll profile sensed by the grinding wheel.
- 6. A rolling mill assembly according to claim 4, comprising a roll shifter controlled as a function of the roll profile sensed by the grinding wheel.
- 7. A rolling mill assembly according to claim 4, comprising a roll crosser controlled as a function of the roll profile sensed by the grinding wheel.
- 8. A rolling method comprising:
- rolling material by compressing the material against a mill roll,
- utilizing a grinding wheel to face and grind the mill roll during rolling operations of a rolling mill, and
- sensing a profile of said mill roll being ground utilizing the grinding wheel as a roll profile sensor by measuring at least one of mill roll contact forces on said grinding wheel and a position of said grinding wheel during rolling operations.
- 9. A rolling method according to claim 8, comprising controlling a roll bender as a function of the roll profile sensed by the grinding wheel.
- 10. A rolling method according to claim 8, comprising controlling a roll shifter as a function of the roll profile sensed by the grinding wheel.
- 11. A rolling method according to claim 8, comprising controlling a roll crosser as a function of the roll profile sensed by the grinding wheel.
- 12. A grinding wheel for an on-line roll grinding system comprising a wheel disk and an abrasive layer adhered to one side of said wheel disk, said wheel disk being configured to elastically bend to absorb vibration from said mill roll being ground during grinding of said mill roll, and
- wherein said wheel has a spring constant of 1000 Kgf/mm to 30 Kgf/mm.
- 13. A grinding wheel according to claim 12, wherein said wheel disk has a spring constant of 500 Kgf/mm to 50 Kgf/mm.
- 14. A grinding wheel according to claim 12, wherein said abrasive layer contains cubic boron nitride abrasives, said abrasives having a concentration of 50 to 100 and a grain size of 80 to 180, and a resin bond is used as a binder for said abrasives.
