Claims
- 1. A rotary atomizer for coating a workpiece with a coating fluid comprising, in combination, a housing including a hollow shroud having a first and second ends and a rear cover plate attached to said first shroud end, a rotary fluid atomizing device rotatably supported on an interior surface of said cover plate with said device extending from said second shroud end, passageway means extending through said housing for supplying coating fluid to said atomizing device, said passageway means having an inlet adjacent an exterior surface of said cover plate and having an outlet adjacent said atomizing device, a manifold including first and second surfaces with inlet means at said first manifold surface adapted to be connected to a source of coating fluid and outlet means at said second manifold surface connected to said passageway means inlet, and fastener means on said housing for releasably securing said housing to said manifold with said cover plate adjacent said second manifold surface.
- 2. A rotary atomizer for coating a workpiece with a coating fluid, as set forth in claim 1, wherein said manifold has at least one air passageway formed therethrough with an end at said first manifold surface adapted to be connected to a source of pressured air and an end at said second manifold surface retaining a fitting extending from said second manifold surface and wherein said cover plate includes an aperture at said exterior cover plate surface for receiving said fitting when said housing is secured to said manifold.
- 3. A rotary atomizer for coating a workpiece with a coating fluid, as set forth in claim 2, wherein said manifold includes a plurality of said passageways each having a fitting extending from said second manifold surface, and wherein said cover plate includes a different aperture at said exterior cover plate surface for receiving each of said fittings when said housing is secured to said manifold.
- 4. A rotary atomizer for coating a workpiece with a coating fluid, as set forth in claim 1, wherein said coating fluid passageway means extending through said housing comprises a rigid coating fluid feed tube attached to said cover plate to extend coaxially with said rotary atomizing device, said tube having a free end projecting from said exterior cover plate surface for sliding into said coating fluid outlet means in said manifold when said housing is secured to said manifold.
- 5. A rotary atomizer for coating a workpiece with a coating fluid, as set forth in claim 4, and further including means for forming a fluid tight seal between said free tube end and said manifold when said housing is attached to said manifold.
- 6. A rotary atomizer for coating a workpiece with a coating fluid, as set forth in claim 4, and further including an air driven turbine attached to said cover plate, said turbine having a hollow drive shaft having a free end attached to said rotary atomizing device to rotatably support said device on said cover plate, and wherein said fluid feed tube extends through said hollow drive shaft.
- 7. A rotary atomizer for coating a workpiece with a coating fluid, as set forth in claim 1, and further including an air driven turbine attached to said cover plate, said turbine having a hollow drive shaft having a free end attached to said rotary atomizing device to rotatably support said device on said cover plate, and wherein said passageway means extends through said hollow drive shaft.
