Claims
- 1. A rotary atomizer for coating a workpiece with a fluid comprising, in combination, a housing, a rotary atomizing device rotatably supported adjacent one end of said housing, said atomizing device having an annular edge from which such fluid is thrown by centrifugal force for atomization, an air driven motor mounted in said housing and connected for rotating said atomizing device, an annular hollow shaping air cap having one end threadably secured to said one end of said housing and having an opposite end extending toward said annular edge of said device, and a flexible retainer ring having an inner portion retained by said housing and an outer portion retained by said air cap for preventing separation of said air cap from said housing.
- 2. A rotary atomizer for coating a workpiece with a fluid, as set forth in claim 1, wherein said housing includes an external circumferential groove formed therein for receiving and retaining said inner edge of said retainer ring and wherein said air cap has an internal circumferential groove formed therein for receiving and retaining said outer portion of said retainer ring.
- 3. A rotary atomizer for coating a workpiece with a fluid, as set forth in claim 1, wherein said housing has an outer surface and said air cap has an inner wall, wherein said outer housing surface and said inner air cap wall form a portion of a flow path for shaping air and a portion of a flow path for exhaust air from said motor, and wherein said retainer ring separates said shaping air path from said exhaust air path.
- 4. A rotary atomizer for coating a workpiece with a fluid, as set forth in claim 3, wherein said housing is a motor housing.
