Claims
- 1. A rotary knock type mechanical pencil comprising:
- (a) a forward outer cylinder,
- (b) a rearward outer cylidner rotatably and removably connected to a rear end of said forward outer cylinder,
- (c) a lead chuck fitted in said forward outer cylinder and movable to feed a lead responsive to rotation of said rearward outer cylinder, said lead chuck having an extremity end for engagement by a chuck tightening ring to clamp lead in said chuck,
- (d) a forward inner cylinder engaged in said forward outer cylinder,
- (e) a chuck tightening ring engageable over the extremity end of said lead chuck,
- (f) a sleeve axially movable in said forward inner cylinder into engagement with said chuck tightening ring, said sleeve having an extremity end with an inward projection near said ring,
- (g) a lead guide connected to said chuck and having a forward and rear end,
- (h) a first resilient member resiliently fitted between the inward projection of said sleeve and the forward end of the lead guide and biasing said tightening ring in the forward direction through said sleeve,
- (i) cam engaging means connected at the rear end of said lead guide and movably inserted into said forward outer cylinder for axial movement together with said lead guide,
- (j) a cam cylinder connected to said rearward outer cylinder, said cam cylinder being rotatably and removably inserted into a rearward part of said forward outer cylinder,
- (k) cam surface means connected in a front end of said cam cylinder integrally rotated with said rearward outer cylinder to feed the lead,
- (l) the cam surface means comprising a large cam surface and a small cam surface, the large and small cam surfaces being inclined in opposite directions,
- (m) the cam surface means being operatively engaged with said cam engaging means, and
- (n) an engaging part arranged in front of said small cam surface, whereby movement of the cam engaging means on the cam surface means as the cam surface means rotates with rotation of said rearward outer cylinder in either direction causes axial movement of the chuck for feeding lead, engagement of said cam engaging means with the engaging part comprising a release position for lead in the chuck.
- 2. A rotary knock type mechanical pencil as set forth in claim 1, wherein said lead guide has a flange portion and further comprising a further resilient member inserted between a rear end of said forward inner cylinder and the flange portion of said lead guide for biasing said cam cylinder in a retracting direction.
- 3. A rotary knock type mechanical pencil as set forth in claim 1, further comprising a sliding element which is separated from said lead guide and which carries said cam engaging means, said sliding element being arranged near the rear end of said lead guide and being axially and slidably inserted into a rear end of said forward outer cylinder, and a further resilient member inserted and received between a rear end of said forward inner cylinder and said sliding element for biasing said cam engaging means toward said cam surface means.
- 4. A rotary knock type mechanical pencil as set forth in claim 1, wherein said cam cylinder has a stepped engaging projection piece, a driver having a concave part, said driver being connected to said rearward outer cylinder for rotation with said rearward outer cylinder, said concave part of said driver being engaged with said engaging projection piece of said cam cylinder for rotation of said cam cylinder with rotation of said driver.
- 5. A rotary knock type mechanical pencil as set forth in claim 1, wherein said cam engaging means comprises a sliding element which is axially slidable with respect to said lead guide at a rear end of said lead guide, said sliding element and said cam cylinder having openings therethrough and a lead pipe for storing lead inserted through said opening of said sliding element and said cam cylinder, said lead pipe being engaged with said lead guide for supplying lead to said chuck.
- 6. A rotary knock type mechanical pencil as set forth in claim 1, wherein said engaging part which is arrangement in front of said small cam surface comprises an intermediate engaging part (145) shaped so that when said cam engaging means (64) is engaged with said intermediate engaging part, said cam engaging means is locked to said intermediate engaging part at a chuck release position for lead in the chuck.
- 7. A rotary knock type mechanical pencil as set forth in claim 6, wherein said intermediate engaging part is concave for receiving said cam engaging means.
