Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

A rotary pump conversion unit for a drywall pump is provided. The rotary pump conversion unit may allow a rotating drive shaft to convert momentum into vertical movement of a driven shaft. The driven shaft may be used to pump drywall mud into a drywall mud applicator. A major benefit of the present device is that the present rotary pump conversion unit for a drywall pump, taper, flat finisher, corner unit, etc. may be used in connection with a motorized drill as opposed to having to manually pump the device.

Fluid pumps are common. For Example, U.S. Pat. No.: 4,334,788 to Miner discloses a mixer-pump having a rotor shaft with a set of pins intermeshing in pins extending inwardly from a cylindrical stator to mix together materials flowing axially through the cylinder. The pins are generally cylindrical in shape except for a set of pins on the rotor shaft designated pumping pins which ae half cylindrical with their flat faces oriented to impart a longitudinal direction of travel of materials through the cylinder. Flow throughput is still further enhanced by a set of axially positioned vanes extending from the housing inwardly toward the rotor shaft with curved ends forming a scoop to receive materials being given a rotary flow component about the shaft by its rotation and convert the flow direction to an axial flow path.

However, this patent fails to describe a rotary pump conversion unit for a drywall pump, taper, flat finisher, corner unit, etc which is easy to use. Further, this patent fails to provide for a rotary pump conversion unit for a drywall pump, taper, flat finisher, corner unit, etc. which allows for the pumping of drywall mud in a quick and efficient manner.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

A rotary pump conversion unit for a drywall pump is provided. The rotary pump conversion unit may allow a rotating drive shaft to convert momentum into vertical movement of a driven shaft. The driven shaft may be used to pump drywall mud into a drywall mud applicator. A major benefit of the present device is that the present rotary pump conversion unit for a drywall pump, taper, flat finisher, corner unit, etc. may be used in connection with a motorized drill as opposed to having to manually pump the device.

Referring now to the figures, a rotary pump conversion unit 1 for use in connection with, for example, for a drywall pump 100, a taper, a flat finisher, a corner application or any other suitable device is provided. The rotary pump conversion unit 1 may have a drive shaft 10 and a driven shaft 50. The drive shaft 10 may be connected to a motor (not shown) via a first axle 11. The axle 11 may rotate along a central axis 12 similar to a drill bit rotating when connected to a drill.

In addition to the axle 11 and the drive shaft 10, the device 1 may have a top support unit 13 and a bottom support unit 14. In one embodiment, the top support unit 13 may be generally cylindrical and the bottom support unit 14 may be generally cylindrical.

In an embodiment, o-rings (not shown) may be used in connection with the pump conversion unit. In particular, o-rings may be inserted into grooves 80 of, for example, top support unit 13 and/or a bottom support unit 14 so as to enclose the chamber (the outer cylindrical object in FIG. 5) of the pump conversion unit and to reduce dust/debris from entering the chamber. A lubricant may also be added. The o-rings and lubricant may extend the life of the device 1 and may prevent overheating.

A distance 18 on the axle 11 may separate the top support unit 13 from the bottom support unit 14. An indented spiral groove 19 may be located on the axle 11 between the top support unit 13 and the bottom support unit 14. The indented spiral groove 19 may receive a portion of the driven shaft 50 (specifically a portion of the a screw) as described below.

The driven shaft 50 may have a top end 51, a bottom end 52 and a generally cylindrical side 53. An interior channel having an interior wall 54/65 may be located within the driven shaft 50 wherein the interior channel receives at least a portion of the axle 11.

The bottom end 52 of the driven shaft 50 may be inserted into a rod 20 of the pump which is then inserted into a bucket of drywall mud. When the driven shaft 50 is inserted into the bucket of drywall mud the rotary pump conversion unit 1 may be used to pump drywall mud from the bucket to, for example, a drywall pump 100, a taper, corner unit or flat finisher which, when full, may be used to properly finish drywall in a building.

Located near the top end 51 of the driven shaft 50 may be an opening 56 which creates a passageway completely through the top of the driven shaft 50. Inserted into the opening 56 may be a follower screw 60. The follower screw 60 may extend inward toward the interior of the driven shaft 50 so that the distal end 61 of the follower screw 60 extends past the interior wall 54/65 of the driven shaft 50. The distal end 61 of the follower screw 60 may be permanently locked/located within the indented spiral groove 19 of the axle 11 of the driven shaft 11. In one embodiment, the follower screw 60 is magnetic and attracted to the spiral groove 19 (which may also be magnetic) so as to better keep the end of the follower screw 60 within the spiral groove 19.

In an alternative embodiment, a second opening opposite the first opening 56 may also be present on the removable collar 70. The second opening (shown lacking a follower screw 60 in FIG. 3A and 3B) may be used in the event that the (first) opening 56 of the removable collar 70 wears out. In an embodiment, a removable collar 70 may be located within the bottom support unit 14. The removable collar 70 may have a first extended ridge 71 and a second extended ridge 72 which are received in identical shaped openings of the bottom support unit 14. The extended ridges 71/72 prevent the removable collar 70 from rotating independent to the bottom unit 14. The removable collar 70 may receive the follower screw 60 at the extended ridges 71/72. As a result of being able to remove the removable collar 70 from the bottom unit 14, the follower screw 60 is therefore replaceable. Further, by sliding the removable collar 70 into the bottom support unit 14, the removable collar 70 and the follower screw 60 remain protected during use. The first extended ridge 71 and the second extended ridge 72 may be positioned on directly opposite locations (180 degrees apart) on the removable collar 70 so as to provide increased durability.

As the drive shaft 10 rotates three hundred and sixty degrees along the central axis 12 as a result of being attached to a motor (not shown), the indented spiral groove 19 of the driven shaft 11 therein rotates three hundred and sixty degrees. As the indented spiral groove 19 of the driven shaft 11 rotates, the follower screw 60 is therein moved upward and downward as a result of the bottom unit 14 of the device not rotating with respect to the driven shaft 11. As a result, the movement of the drive shaft 10 three hundred and sixty degree is converted to the upward and downward vertical movement of the bottom unit 14. In particular, the upward and downward vertical movement of the bottom unit 14 acts in a reciprocating manner which therein pulls mud from an opening at the bottom of the device, via vacuum pressure, from a reservoir (or bucket) and deposits the mud into the drywall pump, taper, flat finisher, corner unit, etc.

Although embodiments of the invention are shown and described therein, it should be understood that various changes and modifications to the presently preferred embodiments will be apparent to those skilled in the art. Such changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention and without diminishing its attendant advantages.
