Claims
- 1. A turbine, comprising:
- a source of a pressurized medium; and
- a rotor assembly including first, second, third, and fourth revolving rotors, each of said rotors defining a surface in contact with said pressurized medium and said surfaces of said rotors providing resistance to said medium passing at a higher velocity, said first and second rotors being positioned apart with a first gap therebetween, said third and fourth rotors being positioned apart with a second gap therebetween, and said pressurized medium passing between said first and second gaps at a velocity greater than a velocity of said rotors, wherein said rotors are rotated by the pressure of said medium and a skin friction between said contact surfaces and said pressurized medium.
- 2. A rotary turbine as claimed in claim 1 wherein said first and third rotors are spaced apart, defining a secondary gap between them, said first and third rotors cooperatively defining compressor means for injecting medium into said turbine.
- 3. A rotary turbine as claimed in claim 1 wherein said first and third rotors form a seal between them.
- 4. A rotary turbine as claimed in claim 3 wherein said first and third rotors are in contact with each other.
- 5. A rotary turbine as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first and second rotors and said third and fourth rotors are positioned adjacent to each other to form a turbine.
- 6. A rotary turbine as claimed in claim 5 wherein a seal is formed between said first and third rotors, and between said second and fourth rotors.
- 7. A turbine, comprising:
- a source of a pressurized medium; and
- a rotor assembly including first and second stages of counter rotating rotors, each of said stages including first and second rotors and each of said rotors defining a surface in contact with said pressurized medium, said surfaces of said rotors providing resistance to said medium passing at a higher velocity, and said rotors of said first stage defining a first gap therebetween, and said rotors of said second stage defining a second gap therebetween, and said first and second gaps cooperatively forming a defining medium passageway for said medium to pass through adjacent both said first and second stages of rotors at a velocity greater than a velocity of said rotors, where said rotors are rotated by the pressure of said medium and a skin friction between said contact surfaces and said pressurized medium.
- 8. A turbine as claimed in claim 7 further comprising a third stage of rotors, said third stage including first and second rotors and each of said rotors defining a surface in contact with said pressurized medium, said surfaces of said rotors providing resistance to said medium passing at a higher velocity, said first and second rotors of said third stage defining a third gap therebetween, and said medium passageway further being defined by said third gap.
- 9. A rotary turbine as claimed in claim 8 wherein said first gap is larger than said second gap and said second gap is larger than said third gap.
- 10. A rotary turbine as claimed in claim 8 wherein said first, second, and third gaps are substantially similar in size.
- 11. A radial turbine as claimed in claim 8 wherein said rotors of said first, second and third stages define, respectively, first, second, and third radii, and wherein said first radius is smaller than said second radius and said second radius is smaller than said third radius.
- 12. A radial turbine as claimed in claim 8 wherein said rotors of said first, second and third stage define, respectively, first, second, and third radii, wherein said first, second, and third radii are substantially the same.
