Claims
- 1. In an air control damper having a frame, at least one blade, rotation means for allowing selective rotational displacement of said blade with respect to said frame between open and closed positions, the improvement wherein said frame comprises a longitudinally extending, inwardly depending flange disposed within a plane which is substantially parallel to the plane of said blade in the closed position, said rotation means for allowing selective rotational displacement of said blade with respect to said frame comprising at least one integral hinge element notched from said flange and at least one complementally configured hinge portion in said blade adapted to slidingly engage said hinge element, said notch in said flange further comprising at least two portions, a first transverse portion for at least providing clearance of said hinge portion of said blade upon rotation of said blade, and a second longitudinal portion of smaller transverse dimension than said first transverse portion for at least providing a portion of the structure of said hinge element, whereby leakage through said damper when said blade is in the closed position is minimized.
- 2. The invention of claim 1 wherein a portion of said blade in the closed position is disposed to sealingly engage at least a portion of that portion of the inwardly depending flange which is adjacent both said first transverse portion and said second longitudinal portion of said notch.
- 3. The invention of claim 1 wherein a portion of said blade in the closed position is disposed to sealingly engage substantially all of said adjacent flange portion.
- 4. The invention of claim 1 wherein said first transverse portion of said notch further comprises a portion of said hinge element.
- 5. The invention of claim 1 wherein at the intersection of said first transverse portion and said second longitudinal portion clearance of said blade hinge portion is provided, the flange material notched from said intersection also forming a part of said transverse portion to comprise at least a portion of said hinge element.
- 6. The invention of claim 5 wherein said hinge element consists substantially of the material notched to form said longitudinal portion.
- 7. The invention of claim 5 wherein said transverse portion of said notch and said longitudinal portion of said notch are both rectangular.
- 8. In an air control damper comprising a frame having at least one side wall, at least one blade, rotation means for allowing selective rotational displacement of said blade between closed and open positions with respect to said frame, and an actuating means for moving said blade between said closed and open positions, the improvement wherein said wall has an arcuate opening defined therein and said actuating means for said blade comprises a link member attached to said blade through said arcuate opening to track within said opening, and wherein said actuating means further comprises a plate attached to said link member in sliding engagement with the interior surface of said wall and covering substantially all portions of said arcuate opening during the tracking of said link member within said opening.
- 9. In an air control damper comprising a frame, at least one blade, rotation means for allowing selective rotational displacement of each of said blades between closed and open positions with respect to said frame, and actuating means for moving said blade between said closed and open positions, the improvement wherein said actuating means for moving said blades comprises an external drive bracket attached to at least one blade, said bracket further comprising an extension portion extending toward said frame, and a rod portion disposed over a portion of said frame, wherein at least rotation of said rod portion causes rotation of said blade, and wherein said extension portion is folded to form said rod portion, said rod portion extending parallel to and generally away from the ends of said blades.
- 10. In an air control damper comprising a frame disposed is a duct, said duct having a wall with an aperture defined therein, at least one blade, rotation means for allowing selective rotational displacement of each of said blades between closed and open positions with respect to said frame, and actuating means for moving said blade between said closed and open positions, the improvement wherein said actuating means for moving said blades comprises an external drive bracket attached to at least one blade, said bracket further comprising an extension portion extending towards said frame, and a rod portion disposed over a portion of said frame and extending away from said blades through said aperture to the exterior of said duct, wherein at least rotation of said rod portion causes rotation of said blade, and further wherein said external bracket further comprises a plate attached to said rod portion in sliding engagement with said wall, said plate moving with said rod portion to seal said aperture in said wall during movement of said blade.
- 11. In an air control damper comprising a frame having an inwardly depending flange, at least one blade, rotation means for allowing selective rotational displacement of said blade between closed and open positions with respect to said frame, an actuating means for moving said blade between said closed and open positions, the improvement wherein said actuating means comprises an external drive bracket attached to at least one blade, said bracket comprising a rod portion extending adjacent to and over said flange, said rod portion having a cross-section defining a first leg lying in a plane substantially parallel to the plane of said blade when said blade is in the closed position, and a second leg which interferes with said flange when said blade is moved to the open position.
- 12. The invention of claim 11 wherein an angle is formed between said legs which is about 90.degree..
