Claims
- 1. A rubber dispersed copolymer resin composition comprising:
- (a) a dispersed phase formed of a multicomponent gel, which contains the following three components:
- (i) a rubber selected from the group consisting of polybutadiene rubber, acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer rubber, styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber, acrylic rubber and ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer rubber;
- (ii) a copolymer of a styrene monomer; and an acrylonitrile monomer;
- (iii) a copolymer of a styrene monomer, an acrylonitrile monomer and an maleimide monomer,
- wherein
- the rubber (i) is contained in an amount of 30 to 70 weight percent and the total amount of the latter two copolymers (ii) and (iii) is 70 to 30 weight percent based on the total amount of the multicomponent gel, the crosslinking degree index of the dispersed phase being 4 to 11, the total amount of multicomponent gel particles, each of which contains at least one cell having a diameter of at least 0.05 .mu.m, accounts for at least 50 weight percent of the whole multicomponent gel; and
- (b) a continuous phase which is formed of a copolymer of 10 to 80 weight percent of styrene monomer, 15 to 50 weight percent of acrylonitrile monomer and 1 to 30 weight percent of maleimide, the reduced viscosity of an 0.5 weight percent solution of the continuous phase forming copolymer in dimethylformamide being 0.5 to 1.0 dl/g at 30.degree. C.; said rubber being contained in an amount of 3 to 20 weight percent on the total weight of said resin composition.
- 2. The rubber dispersed copolymer resin as claimed in claim 1 wherein the styrene monomer is selected from the group consisting of styrene, .alpha.-methylstyrene, .alpha.-ethylstyrene, vinyltoluene, vinylxylene, o-t-butylstyrene, p-t-butylstyrene, p-methylstyrene, monochlorostyrene, dichlorostyrene, tribromostyrene, tetrabromostyrene, p-hydroxystyrene, o-methoxystyrene, and combinations thereof.
- 3. The rubber dispersed copolymer resin as claimed in claim 1 wherein the acrylonitrile monomer is selected from the group consisting of methacrylonitrile, fumaronitrile, maleonitrile, .alpha.-chloroacrylonitrile, and combinations thereof.
- 4. The rubber dispersed copolymer resin as claimed in claim 1 wherein the maleimide monomer is selected from the group consisting of n-methylmaleimide, n-ethylmaleimide, n-propylmaleimide, n-t-butylmaleimide, n-isopropylmaleimide, n-cyclohexylmaleimide, n-phenylmaleimide, n-naphtylmaleimide, n-o-chlorophenylmaleimide, and combinations thereof.
- 5. Rubber dispersed copolymer resin comprising:
- (a) a dispersed phase formed of a multicomponent gel, which contains the following three components:
- (i) a rubber selected from the group consisting of polybutadiene rubber, acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer rubber, styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber, acrylic rubber and ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer rubber;
- (ii) A copolymer of a styrene monomer and an acrylonitrile monomer, the styrene monomer in copolymer (ii) being selected from the group consisting of .alpha.-methyl styrene, .alpha.-ethylstyrene, monochlorostyrene, dichlorostyrene, vinyl toluene, vinylxylene, o-t-butylstyrene, p-t-butylstyrene, p-methylstyrene, tribromostyrene, tetrabromostyrene, p-hydroxystyrene, o-methoxystyrene and combinations of such styrene monomers, and the acrylonitrile monomer in copolymer (ii) is selected from the group consisting of acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, fumaronitrile, maleonitrile, .alpha.-acrylonitrile and combinations of such acrylonitrile monomers;
- (iii) a copolymer of a styrene monomer, an acrylonitrile monomer and a maleimide monomer, the styrene monomer in copolymer (ii) the styrene monomer in copolymer (ii) being selected from the group consisting of .alpha.-methyl styrene, .alpha.-ethylstyrene, monochlorostyrene, dichlorostyrene, vinyl toluene, vinylxylene, o-t-butylstyrene, p-t-butylstyrene, p-methylstyrene, tribromostyrene, tetrabromostyrene, p-hydroxystyrene, o-methoxystyrene and combinations of such styrene monomers, and the acrylonitrile monomer in copolymer (ii) is selected from the group consisting of acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, fumaronitrile, maleonitrile, .alpha.-chloroacrylonitrile and combinations of such acrylonitrile monomers and the maleimide monomer is selected from the group consisting of n-phenylmaleimide, n-naphthylmaleimide, n-o-chlorophenylmaleimide, a maleimide monomer having the formula: ##STR2## wherein R is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 15 carbon atoms or a cycloalkyl group having 1 to 15 carbon atoms, and combinations of such maleimide monomers, wherein the rubber (i) is contained in an amount of 30 to 70 weight percent and the total amount of the latter two copolymers (ii) and (iii) is 70 to 40 weight percent based on the total amount of the multicomponent gel, the rubber (i) being contained in an amount of 3 to 20 weight percent on the total weight of said resin composition, the crosslinking degree index of the dispersed phase being 4 to 11, the total amount of multicomponent gel particles, each of which contains at least one cell having a diameter of at least 0.05 .mu.m, accounts for at least 50 weight percent of the whole multicomponent gel; and
- (b) a continuous phase which is formed of a copolymer of 10 to 80 weight percent of styrene monomer (iv), 15 to 50 weight percent of acrylonitrile monomer (v) and 1 to 30 weight percent of maleimide (vi), the styrene monomer being selected from the group consisting of .alpha.-methyl styrene, .alpha.-ethylstyrene, monochlorostyrene, dichlorostyrene, vinyl toluene, vinylxylene, o-t-butylstyrene, p-t-butylstyrene, p-methylstyrene, tribromostyrene, tetrabromostyrene, p-hydroxystyrene, o-methoxystyrene and combinations of such styrene monomers, and the acrylonitrile monomer in copolymer (ii) is selected from the group consisting of acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, fumaronitrile, maleonitrile, .alpha.-chloroacrylonitrile and combinations of such acrylonitrile monomers and the maleimide monomer is selected from the group consisting of n-phenyl maleimide, n-naphthylmaleimide, n-o-chlorophenylmaleimide, a maleimide monomer having the formula: ##STR3## wherein R is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 15 carbon atoms or a cycloalkyl group having 1 to 15 carbon atoms, and combinations of such maleimide monomers, the reduced viscosity of an 0.5 weight percent solution of the continuous phase forming copolymer in dimethylformamide being 0.5 to 1.0 dl/g at 30.degree. C.
- 6. The rubber dispersed copolymer resin composition of claim 5 wherein the acrylic rubber is polybutyl acrylate and polypropyl acrylate.
- 7. The rubber dispersed copolymer resin composition of claim 5 wherein the rubber is polybutadiene rubber or styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber.
- 8. The rubber dispersed copolymer resin composition of claim 5 wherein the styrene monomer is copolymer (ii) is styrene or .alpha.-methylstyrene.
- 9. The rubber dispersed copolymer resin composition of claim 5 wherein the acrylonitrile monomer of copolymer (ii) is acrylonitrile.
- 10. The rubber dispersed copolymer resin composition of claim 5 wherein the styrene monomer of copolymer (iii) is styrene or .alpha.-methylstyrene.
- 11. The rubber dispersed copolymer resin composition of claim 5 wherein the acrylonitrile monomer of copolymer (iii) is acrylonitrile.
- 12. The rubber dispersed copolymer resin composition of claim 5 wherein the maleimide monomer of copolymer (iii) is selected from the group consisting of maleimide, n-methylmaleimide, n-ethylmaleimide, n-propylmaleimide, n-t-butylmaleimide, n-isopropylmaleimide, n-cyclohexylmaleimide, n-phenylmaleimide, n-naphthylmaleimide, n-chloromaleimide and combinations of such maleimide monomers.
- 13. The rubber dispersed copolymer resin composition of claim 5 wherein the maleimide monomer of copolymer (iii) is maleimide, N-methylmaleimide, n-phenylmaleimide or n-cyclohexylmaleimide.
- 14. The rubber dispersed copolymer resin composition of claim 5 wherein the styrene monomer in (iv) is styrene or .alpha.-methylstyrene.
- 15. The rubber dispersed copolymer resin composition of claim 5 wherein the acrylonitrile monomer (v) is acrylonitrile.
- 16. The rubber dispersed copolymer resin composition of claim 5 wherein the maleimide monomer (vi) is selected from the group consisting of maleimide, n-methylmaleimide, n-ethylmaleimide, n-propylmaleimide, n-t-butylmaleimide, n-isopropylmaleimide, n-cyclohexylmaleimide, n-phenylmaleimide, n-naphthyl maleimide, n-chloromaleimide and combinations of such maleimide monomers.
- 17. The rubber dispersed copolymer resin composition of claim 5 wherein the maleimide monomer (vi) is maleimide, n-methylmaleimide, n-phenylmaleimide or n-cyclohexylmaleimide.
