Claims
- 1. A selective herbicidal composition comprising, in addition to customary inert formulation assistants, a mixture of
- a) a herbicidally effective mount of a compound of formula I ##STR39## and b) to antagonise the herbicide, an antidotally effective amount of a compound of formula II
- R--CHYCl (II)
- wherein R is a radical of formula ##STR40## wherein R.sub.33 and R.sub.34 are each independently of the other C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkenyl; or R.sub.33 and R.sub.34, taken together, are ##STR41## R.sub.35 and R.sub.36 are each independently of the other hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl;
- or R.sub.33 and R.sub.34, taken together, are ##STR42## R.sub.37 and R.sub.38 are each independently of the other C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, or R.sub.37 and R.sub.38, taken together, are --(CH.sub.2).sub.5 -;
- R.sub.39 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or ##STR43## or R.sub.33 and R.sub.34, taken together, are ##STR44## and R.sub.40, R.sub.41, R.sub.42, R.sub.43, R.sub.44, R.sub.45, R.sub.46, R.sub.47, R.sub.48, R.sub.49, R.sub.50, R.sub.51, R.sub.52, R.sub.53, R.sub.54 and R.sub.55 are each independently of one another hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, or R is a radical of formula ##STR45## or R is a radial formula ##STR46## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are each independently of one another hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 haloalkyl, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 are each independently of one another hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 haloalkyl, or R is a radical of formula ##STR47## wherein R.sub.9 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or halogen, R.sub.10 is halogen, R.sub.11 and R.sub.12 are each independently of the other hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, and Q is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylene or alkyl-substituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylene, or R is a radical of formula ##STR48## wherein R.sub.14 is hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, dioxymethylene, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkenyloxy, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkynyloxy or cyano-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, P is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkenyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkynyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 cycloalkyl, C.sub.1 alkyl, 2,2-di-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, 1,3-dioxan-2-yl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, 2-benzopyranyl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxycarbonyl or C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkenyloxycarbonyl or tetrahydrofurfuryl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, the group P-X may also be halogen-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, X is O, S, SO or SO.sub.2, n is 1, 2 or 3, A is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 hydrocarbon radical or C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 hydrocarbon radical which is substituted by alkoxy, alkylthio, fluoro, cyano or haloalkyl, and R.sub.13 is hydrogen, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 hydrocarbon radical, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 hydrocarbon radical which is substituted by alkoxy, polyalkoxy, halogen, cyano or trifluoromethyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 cycloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl-C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 cycloalkyl, di-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, 1,3-dioxolan-2-yl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, 1,3-dioxolan-4-yl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, 1,3-dioxan-2-yl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, furyl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, tetrahydrofuryl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or a radical of formula --NHCO.sub.2 R.sub.01, --CH.sub.2 CO.sub.2 R.sub.01, --CH(CH.sub.3)CO.sub.2 R.sub.01 or --CH(R.sub.02)--C(R.sub.03).dbd.NOR.sub.04, wherein R.sub.01 is methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl or allyl, R.sub.02 and R.sub.03 are each hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, and R.sub.04 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkenyl or C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkynyl, or R is a radical of formula (H.sub.5 C.sub.2 O).sub.2 P(O)CH.sub.2 NHCO-- ##STR49## wherein R.sub.15 and R.sub.16 are each independently of the other hydroxyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, aryl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkenyloxy, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkynyloxy, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 haloalkoxy, C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkoxyalkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 cyanoalkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 phenylalkoxy or aryloxy, or aryloxy which is substituted by halogen, cyano, nitro or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, R.sub.17 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or phenyl, or phenyl which is substituted by halogen, cyano, nitro or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, R.sub.18 is hydrogen, or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, R.sub.19 is hydrogen or a radical of formula --COCX.sub.1 X.sub.2 --R.sub.06 or a halogen-substituted alkenoyl radical containing 2 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkenyl moiety, wherein X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 are each independently of the other halogen, or a radical of formula --COOR.sub.07 or --COR.sub.08 or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkenyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 phenylalkyl radical which can be substituted at the phenyl ring by halogen, cyano, nitro or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, and R.sub.20 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkenyl or C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkynyl, R.sub.06 is hydrogen, halogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, R.sub.07 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 phenylalkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 phenylalkyl which is substituted in the phenyl nucleus by halogen, cyano, nitro or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, and R.sub.08 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkenyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkynyl, phenyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 phenylalkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 phenylalkyl which is substituted in the phenyl nucleus by halogen, cyano, nitro or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, or R is a radical of formula ##STR50## or of formula ##STR51## wherein R.sub.21 is methyl, ethyl, propyl, 1-methylethyl, 2-propenyl, 2-butenyl, 1,1-dimethyl-2-propenyl, 2-propynyl or 2-methyl-2-propynyl, and R.sub.22, R.sub.23, R.sub.24 and R.sub.25 are each independently of one another hydrogen or methyl, and Y is chloro, or Y is hydrogen if R is a radical of formula (H.sub.5 C.sub.2 O).sub.2 P(O)CH.sub.2 NHCO--.
- 2. A composition according to claim 1, wherein R is a radical of formula ##STR52## wherein R.sub.33 and R.sub.34 together are ##STR53## R.sub.37 and R.sub.38 are each independently of the other C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; or R.sub.37 and R.sub.38 together are --(CH.sub.2).sub.5 -; and R.sub.39 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or ##STR54##
- 3. A composition according to claim 1, wherein R is a radical of formula ##STR55## wherein R.sub.21 is methyl, ethyl, propyl, 2-propenyl or 2-butenyl, R.sub.22 and R.sub.25 are hydrogen.
- 4. A composition according to claim 3, wherein R.sub.21 is 2-propenyl.
- 5. A composition according to claim 1, wherein R is a radical of formula ##STR56## wherein R.sub.1 to R.sub.8 are each independently of one another hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl.
- 6. A composition according to claim 5, wherein R.sub.1 to R.sub.7 are hydrogen and R.sub.8 is methyl.
- 7. A composition according to claim 1, wherein R is a radical of formula ##STR57## wherein R.sub.14 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, P is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkenyl or C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkynyl, X is O or S, n is 1, A is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 hydrocarbon radical and R.sub.13 is hydrogen or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 hydrocarbon radical.
- 8. A composition according to claim 7, wherein R.sub.14 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, P is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, X is O, A is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylene and R.sub.13 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl.
- 9. A composition according to claim 8, wherein R.sub.14 is methoxy, P is methyl, A is methylene and R.sub.13 is isopropyl.
- 10. A composition according to claim 1, wherein R is a radical of formula ##STR58## wherein R.sub.15 and R.sub.16 are each independently of the other hydroxyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, R.sub.17 and R.sub.18 are each independently of the other hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, and R.sub.19 is hydrogen or a radical of formula --COOR.sub.07, wherein R.sub.07 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, and R.sub.20 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl.
- 11. A composition according to claim 10, wherein R.sub.16 and R.sub.15 are C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, R.sub.17 and R.sub.18 are hydrogen, R.sub.19 is a radical of formula --COOR.sub.07, wherein R.sub.07 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, and R.sub.20 is hydrogen.
- 12. A composition according to claim 11, wherein R.sub.15 and R.sub.16 are isopropoxy and R.sub.19 is --COOC.sub.2 H.sub.5.
- 13. A composition according to claim 1, wherein the compound of formula II is selected from the group consisting of a compound of formula III ##STR59## a compound of formula IV ##STR60## and a compound of formula V ##STR61##
- 14. A method of selectively controlling weeds and grasses in crops of cultivated plants, which comprises treating said plants, the seeds or the locus thereof, concurrently or separately, with an effective amount of a herbicide of formula I ##STR62## and, to antagonise said herbicide, an antidotally effective amount of a compound of formula II

- 15. A method according to claim 14, wherein the plants, the seeds or the locus thereof is treated with 0.001 to 5 kg/ha of a compound of formula I and 0.005 to 0.5 kg/ha of a compound of formula II.
- 16. A method according to claim 14, wherein the cultivated plants are maize.
