Claims
- 1. A safety binding for a ski comprising a jaw for holding a sole of a ski boot, said jaw being movable at least transversely with respect to the longitudinal axis of said ski and being resiliently held in a normal position, said safety binding further comprising a pedal secured to said jaw by a front end of said pedal and passing under the end of said sole of said ski boot, said pedal comprising a support portion for supporting said sole of said ski boot, and an elastically deformable portion connecting said support portion to said jaw, wherein said support portion is fixed with respect to said elastically deformable portion.
- 2. The binding of claim 1, wherein said elastically deformable potion comprises means for permitting said support portion to move at least vertically relative to said jaw and at least transversely with said jaw.
- 3. The binding of claim 2 wherein said pedal is secured to said jaw only by said front end thereof.
- 4. A ski binding comprising:
- means for engaging a portion of a ski boot and being resiliently held in a normal position, said means further being movable at least transversely to and from said normal position;
- means for supporting a lower surface of said ski boot; and
- means for mounting said supporting means for movement at least in a transverse direction with said engaging means and for permitting relative movement between said supporting means and said engaging means in at least a further direction, said supporting means having an end and being connected only to said engaging means, at said end of said supporting means, by said mounting means.
- 5. The binding of claim 4, wherein said means for permitting relative movement between said supporting means and said engaging means in at least a further direction comprises means for permitting said supporting means to flex toward and away from an upper surface of said ski.
- 6. The binding of claim 4, further comprising a slide member adapted to be fixed relative to said ski for engaging a lower surface of said supporting means.
- 7. The binding of claim 4, wherein said means for mounting is made from a material for permitting slight movement of said means for supporting toward and away from said ski.
- 8. The binding of claim 4, wherein said mounting means comprises substantially transversely extending cross ribs.
- 9. The binding of claim 8, wherein said means for mounting said supporting means is elastically deformable to permit said supporting means to be movable toward and away from said ski when said binding is mounted upon said ski.
- 10. The binding of claim 4, wherein said supporting means is at least partially made of metal.
- 11. The binding of claim 4, wherein said supporting means comprises a thin metal member.
- 12. The binding of claim 11, wherein said thin metal member is attached to said engaging means such that no substantial transverse movement is permitted between said supporting means and said engaging means.
- 13. The binding of claim 11, wherein said supporting means is attached to said engaging means at least at two spaced apart areas.
- 14. The binding of claim 1, wherein said support portion is integral with said elastically deformable portion.
- 15. The safety binding of claim 1, wherein said pedal is secured to said jaw only by said front end of said pedal.
- 16. A ski binding comprising:
- means for engaging a portion of a ski boot and being resiliently held in a normal position, said means further being movable at least transversely to and from said normal position;
- means for supporting a lower surface of said ski boot;
- means for connecting said means for engaging and said means for supporting, said means for connecting being resiliently flexible to facilitate movement of said means for supporting at least in a transverse direction with said means for engaging, and for permitting relative movement of said means for supporting with respect to said means for engaging in at least a further direction.
- 17. A safety binding for a ski comprising a jaw for holding the sole of a ski boot, said jaw being movable at least transversely with respect to the longitudinal axis of the ski and being resiliently held in its normal position with a pedal secured to said jaw and passing under the end of the sole of the ski boot, said binding further comprising an elastically deformable element connecting said pedal to said jaw, wherein said elastically deformable element comprises at least one corrugation along a direction transverse to the axis of the ski.
