Claims
- 1. A radial diaphragm valve comprising:
a valve body having a valve cavity therein; a diaphragm having a perimeter that seals said valve cavity, wherein said diaphragm includes a web portion, a rim portion and a central stem portion, said central stem portion including a surface for sealing against a fluid passageway in said valve cavity; wherein said web portion is connected to said central stem portion and extends outward away from said central stem portion radially, said web portion being arcuate in shape extending a predetermined height above a planar surface defined by a top surface of said rim portion; wherein less force is required to stretch said diaphragm downward toward the valve cavity than upward away from the valve cavity.
- 2. The radial diaphragm valve of claim 1 wherein said diaphragm is made from a chemically resistant material and optimized for flexure.
- 3. The radial diaphragm valve of claim 1 wherein the ratio of the web thickness to the web length is in the range of about 0.03 to about 0.08.
- 4. The radial diaphragm valve of claim 1 wherein the ration of the web height to the web length is in the range of about 0.13 to about 0.28.
- 5. The radial diaphragm valve of claim 1 wherein the ratio of the web thickness to the web length is in the range of about 0.03 to about 0.08. and the ration of the web height to the web length is in the range of about 0.13 to about 0.28.
- 6. The radial diaphragm valve of claim 1 wherein said sealing surface on said central stem portion is defined by a conical tip.
- 7. The radial diaphragm valve of claim 1 wherein the ratio of the diaphragm downward stroke to the diaphragm upward stroke is about 1.25.
- 8. A valve diaphragm having a perimeter that seals a valve cavity, wherein said diaphragm includes a web portion, a rim portion and a central stem portion, said central stem portion including a surface for sealing against a fluid passageway in said valve cavity; wherein said web portion is connected to said central stem portion and extends outward away from said central stem portion radially, said web portion being arcuate in shape extending a predetermined height above a planar surface defined by a top surface of said rim portion.
- 9. The valve diaphragm of claim 8 wherein said diaphragm is made from a chemically resistant material and optimized for flexure.
- 10. The valve diaphragm of claim 8 wherein the ratio of the web thickness to the web length is in the range of about 0.03 to about 0.08.
- 11. The valve diaphragm of claim 8 wherein the ration of the web height to the web length is in the range of about 0.13 to about 0.28.
- 12. The valve diaphragm of claim 8 wherein the ratio of the web thickness to the web length is in the range of about 0.03 to about 0.08. and the ration of the web height to the web length is in the range of about 0.13 to about 0.28.
- 13. The valve diaphragm of claim 8 wherein said sealing surface on said central stem portion is defined by a conical tip.
- 14. A radial diaphragm valve comprising:
a valve body having a valve cavity therein; a diaphragm having a perimeter that seals said valve cavity, wherein said diaphragm includes a web portion, a rim portion and a central stem portion, said central stem portion including a surface for sealing against a fluid passageway in said valve cavity; wherein said web portion is connected to said central stem portion and extends outward away from said central stem portion radially, said web portion being arcuate in shape; wherein the ratio of the diaphragm downward stroke to the diaphragm upward stroke is in the range of about 1.25 to about 1.50.
