Claims
- 1. A method of heat treating scandium containing aluminum alloy components for firearms comprising the steps of:
i) heating the scandium containing aluminum alloy components at about 875±5° F. for one to two hours; ii) quenching the scandium containing aluminum alloy components in water; iii) aging the scandium containing aluminum alloy components at room temperature for about 72 hours; and iv) aging the scandium containing aluminum alloy components artificially at about 250±5° F. for about 24 hours.
- 2. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of:
v) cooling the scandium containing aluminum alloy components to room temperature.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the components are taken from the group consisting of revolver frames, revolver cylinders, pistol frames, and rifle frames.
