The present disclosure relates to systems, devices and methods for dispensing liquid scent. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to scent wick dispensers and methods of using the same.
Hunters often use animal attractant scent to increase the chances of hunting success. Use of these scents takes advantage of the natural survival instincts of an animal, including finding food, enacting defense mechanisms and finding a mate. For example, in the case of white tail deer, bucks use their nose to find food, to become aware of other deer in their territory, to avoid danger and to find a mate during mating season. A scent dispenser can be used to disperse a commercially available scent, such as doe secretions, and the buck will smell the scent and be drawn to the desired location, thereby making it easier to hunt.
Examples of commercially available scents, which may be sold with or without a device for dispensing the scents, may include, but are not limited to, doe urine, doe estrous secretions, and buck urine. Commercially available scents may also be artificial, man-made, made with other natural ingredients, or a combination.
Against this backdrop, the present disclosure was developed.
The information included in this Background section of the specification, including any references cited herein and any description or discussion thereof, is included for technical reference purposes only and is not to be regarded subject matter by which the scope of the invention is to be bound.

A ratio of a length of the elongated dip portion of the scent wick dispenser to a width of the enlarged neck and elongated dip portion of the scent wick dispenser is greater than 6. In one aspect, the ratio of the length of the elongated dip portion of the scent wick dispenser to the width of the enlarged neck and elongated dip portion of the scent wick dispenser is between approximately 6.19 and approximately 8. In one aspect, the ratio of a length of the elongated dip portion of the scent wick dispenser to the width of the enlarged neck and elongated dip portion of the scent wick dispenser is approximately 6.9. In one aspect, the scent wick dispenser is a synthetic felt material having a thickness of approximately 0.4 inches. In one aspect, the length of the elongated dip portion of the scent wick dispenser is between approximately 3.88 inches and approximately 4.74 inches. In one aspect, the width of the enlarged neck of the scent wick dispenser is approximately between approximately 0.51 inches and 0.73 inches. In one aspect, the width of the elongated dip portion of the scent wick dispenser is approximately between approximately 0.51 inches and 0.73 inches. In one aspect, the rounded distal end of the scent wick dispenser has a radius of curvature of between approximately 0.28 inches and approximately 0.34 inches. In one aspect, the aperture in the top portion of the scent dispenser wick has a radius of between approximately 0.30 inches and approximately 0.38 inches. In one aspect, the rounded corners of the enlarged neck portion of the scent wick dispenser have a radius of curvature of between approximately 0.16 inches and approximately 0.21 inches.
This Summary is provided to introduce a selection of concepts in a simplified form that are further described below in the Detailed Description. This Summary is not intended to identify key features or essential features of the claimed subject matter, nor is it intended to be used to limit the scope of the claimed subject matter. Other features, details, utilities, and advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the following more particular written description of various embodiments of the invention as further illustrated in the accompanying drawings and defined in the appended claims.
The present disclosure, both as to its organization and manner of operation, may be understood by reference to the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
The present disclosure includes novel and advantageous systems and devices for dispensing liquid scent and methods of using the same. The systems and devices disclosed herein include a scent wick dispenser having an elongated dip portion to increase the surface area of the wick that is exposed to the liquid scent. The scent wick dispenser may further include an enlarged neck to further increase the surface area of the wick that is exposed to the liquid scent. Applications of the systems and devices include dispensing animal attractant in the form of liquid scent. Some examples of scents include doe urine, doe estrous secretions and buck urine. The scents may be artificial or man-made. Similarly, the scents may be used during any suitable time period and is not limited to mating season or hunting season or to any specific animal.
With reference to
The container 10 includes an oblong body 35 with a neck 40 integrally formed with and extending from the body 35. The neck 40 defines an opening 45, which, together with the container 10, is configured to receive the elongated dip portion 15 of the scent wick dispenser 10 through the opening 45. The container 10 is also configured to receive and hold a liquid 7, such as a liquid scent. The container 10 may include an initial amount of liquid. In other embodiments, the container may be fillable/refillable with a liquid. The opening 45 may be used to fill and/or refill the container 10 with a liquid. The width or distance from corner to corner of the enlarged neck portion 25 of the scent wick 5 is substantially similar than the width (or diameter) of the neck 40 and opening 45 of the container 10. That is, and as shown in
The container 10 may be manufactured from plastic, metal or metal alloy, composite, glass, etc., or any combination thereof. In some embodiments, the container material may be durable and inexpensive, such as embodiments made of plastic. In some embodiments, the container may be manufactured with a material that does not interfere with the properties of a liquid contained therein, such as the scent of the liquid. In one embodiment, the container 10 is a 4 oz F/L container made from polyethylene terephthalate or PETE, a thermoplastic polymer resin, with a fill capacity of approximately 118 mL±5 mL and a weight of approximately 24 g±1 g.
The liquid scent may be an animal attractant, including but not limited to an animal sexual attractant. For example, an animal sexual attractant used may include deer urine or a particular scent, produced by a doe when in heat. In alternative embodiments, other liquids may be used, such as animal and/or pest repellents, or scents that provide agreeable or disagreeable odors to humans, masking scents, or any other desired material. In yet further embodiments, the contents of the container may include gels or thick liquids. The liquid may be synthetic, natural, a synthetically produced natural substance, a mixture of these, or etc. In one embodiment, the liquid scent may comprise doe urine, doe estrous secretions, buck urine, or a combination of any or all three, and may also include additional or other scent ingredients or other appropriate additives.
Advantageously, the scent wick dispenser 5 includes specific dimensions with an increased surface area that, when used with the custom designed container 10, increase absorption of the scent (liquid 7) contained in the container. The width of the elongated dip portion is specifically designed to fit snugly into the opening 45 of the container and the elongated dip portion extends the full length of the container thereby exposing the increased surface area to the liquid scent for increased absorption.
