Claims
- 1. A screen element for motor vehicles, comprising:
a piece of flat material extending in a surface area, said piece of flat material comprising strands which are inherently stiff to enable said flat material to stand alone without a frame and which provide primary stability for said screen element; a frame provided on at least one edge area of said piece of flat material, said frame providing secondary stability for said screen element.
- 2. A screen element in accordance with claim 1, wherein said piece of flat material comprises at least one of woven, knitted and braided fabric.
- 3. A screen element in accordance with claim 1, wherein said strands are made of shapeable material.
- 4. A screen element in accordance with claim 1, wherein said strands are made of metal.
- 5. A screen element in accordance with claim 1, wherein said frame is formed from the at least one edge area of the piece of flat material.
- 6. A screen element in accordance with claim 5, wherein the edge area of the piece of flat material comprises said strands extending at least partially transversely to the surface area in which the piece of flat material extends.
- 7. A screen element in accordance with claim 5, wherein said strands in the edge area are shaped so as to form a surrounding edge loop.
- 8. A screen element in accordance with claim 5, wherein said strands in the edge area are shaped so as to form a bead.
- 9. A screen element in accordance with claim 1, wherein said frame comprises a separate frame connected to said at least one edge area of the piece of flat material.
- 10. A screen element in accordance with claim 1, wherein said frame comprises at least one frame part positioned on said at least one edge area.
- 11. A screen element in accordance with claim 11, wherein the at least one edge area is embedded in the at least one frame part at least in connecting areas.
- 12. A screen element in accordance with claim 1, wherein the frame is injection molded onto the at least one edge area.
- 13. A screen element in accordance with claim 1, wherein the frame is foamed onto the at least one edge area.
- 14. A screen element in accordance with claim 1, wherein said strands comprise at least one of wires and fibers.
- 15. A screen element for motor vehicles comprising:
a stabilizing structure extending in a surface area, said stabilizing structure comprising
a web structure having openings between webs thereof and providing stability to said screen element a piece of flat material, said stabilizing structure maintaining said piece of flat material in a position in which its extends over said surface area within an outer contour of said stabilizing structure.
- 16. A screen element in accordance with claim 15, wherein said stabilizing structure comprises an outer rim element connected to said web structure.
- 17. A screen element in accordance with claim 15, wherein said stabilizing structure comprises an outer frame connected to said web structure.
- 18. A screen element in accordance with claim 15, wherein said stabilizing structure comprises webs interconnected with each other.
- 19. A screen element in accordance with claim 18, wherein said webs are interconnected at points of intersection thereof.
- 20. A screen element in accordance with claim 15, wherein said stabilizing structure comprises crossovers forming said webs of said web structure.
- 21. A screen element in accordance with claim 18, wherein at least some of said webs extend parallel to each other.
- 22. A screen element in accordance with claim 21, wherein a first number of webs extend parallel to one direction and a second number of webs extend parallel to a second direction, said second direction extending transversely to said first direction.
- 23. A screen element in accordance with claim 22, wherein said first and second directions extend transversely to rim supports forming said rim element.
- 24. A screen element in accordance with claim 15, wherein said web structure is formed as an integral part.
- 25. A screen element in accordance with claim 24, wherein said stabilizing structure is formed as an integral part.
- 26. A screen element in accordance with claim 16, wherein said piece of flat material is fixed to said rim element of said stabilizing structure.
- 27. A screen element in accordance with claim 16, wherein said rim is provided with a receiving means for an outer edge portion of said piece of flat material.
- 28. A screen element in accordance with claim 27, wherein said outer edge portion of said piece of flat material is retained in said receiving means by an insert.
- 29. A screen element in accordance with claim 28, wherein said insert is part of a cover element.
- 30. A screen element in accordance with claim 15, wherein said web structure extends on at least one side of said piece of flat material.
- 31. A screen element in accordance with claim 15, wherein said flat material extends in a first surface and said web structure extends in a second surface which is different from said first surface.
- 32. A screen element in accordance with claim 31, wherein said first surface and said second surface extend essentially parallel to each other.
- 33. A screen element in accordance with claim 15, wherein said piece of flat material is made of a material with bending slackness.
- 34. A screen element in accordance with claim 15, wherein said piece of flat material is a wind-tight material.
- 35. A screen element in accordance with claim 15, wherein said piece of flat material is made of an air-permeable material provided with openings.
- 36. A screen element in accordance with claim 35, wherein said openings in said piece of flat material are much smaller than said openings in said web structure.
- 37. A screen element in accordance with claim 15, wherein said piece of flat material comprises at least one of a woven, knitted, and braided fabric.
- 38. A screen element in accordance with claim 15, wherein said piece of flat material comprises a foil provided with openings.
- 39. A screen element in accordance with claim 15, wherein said piece of flat material is made of elastic material which can be tensioned in at least one direction.
- 40. A screen element in accordance with claim 15, wherein said piece of flat material is an inelastic material.
